Now, from abc 7 news, live breaking news. Devastating flooding in san jose is spreading tonight. Right now a Mobile Home Park is under a mandatory evacuation. This after hundreds of others were forced to abandon their homes with just the clothes on their backs. First responders raced to save helpless families stranded by the high water. This is the worst flooding and water rescue situation that i personally have participated in. Personal property including homes and cars all damaged or destroyed. Good evening, and thank you for joining us tonight. Im ama dietz. And im dan ashley, san jose fire said the coyote creek would rise tonight and they were right big time. Several neighborhoods are under water, and more are likely going to be. Earlier the mayor sent out this tweet saying were expanding the mandatory evacuation east of coyote creek but west of 101. Tonight, abc 7 news is getting a look at the neighborhoods, the area surrounding rock streets and south bay Mobile Home Park off oakland road. And we begin with abc 7 News Reporter katie marzullo. Reporter anxious residents waited for a boat to come around the corner, with at least three people needing to be rescued after their home was flooded. The water was coming through the seams, about two feet, filling up the back of the Mobile Home Park here. Reporter some 200 units in the south bay oakland park are under water and a mandatory Evacuation Order. Authorities and Park Management did everything they could to convince people to leave, which was difficult in some areas. He says he doesnt want to leave, his wife is bed ridden. Jose was out when he got a frantic call to come back. When we came back it was knee high water, so that was pretty intense. Reporter he packed his valuables and was ready to go. Primarily, important documents, passports, Social Security cards, just documents that can get ruined with water. Clothes is the least of the worries now. Reporter others decided to stay with the best intentions. Its dry over there, and my good friends live in the back, were having them stay with us for the night because yeah, whatever we can do to help. Reporter we want to show you exactly what is happening in the Mobile Home Park, were standing right along this wall and as my photographer pushes in you can see the water continue just to gush through the wall and its not only coming through the wall at this point it actually has burrowed a hole in the wall at this point. So its worth noting even in the case of a mandatory Evacuation Order police and fire officials cannot forcibly remove somebody from their home so people can choose to stay. That is why youre seeing that tonight. Also it is not just south bay Mobile Home Park, there are two adjacent mobile homes, for a total of 550 units, live in san jose, katie marzullo, abc 7 news. And as we mentioned one of the san jose neighborhoods that suffered the worst is called rock springs, not far from the golf course, tonight, flooding is a huge problem there. Reporter dan and ama, the water has gone lower a little bit, but side streets are closed and barricades are up and police are out. That is because take a look behind me and you can see that unfortunately a lot of people had to leave their personal belongings behind just to get out. My pictures, my kids pictures, everything i cannot replace. I took it in the van because i wanted to save it. But i lost it. Reporter Carmen Davalos is devastated tonight, the flood water destroyed all the personal possessions she loved most. She tried to escape her apartment on rock springing drive in a packed mini van but had to abandon it. The same sad scene played out all over san jose. Water covering 20 acres of park this afternoon, and an hour later . You dont expect any flooding in a downtown area, yeah. Reporter this is 16th street near Williams Street park. You can see a row of cars covered in water, trees fell, water rushed into homes and residents there also had to evacuate. What am i going to do now besides freak out . Im going to wait and see what comes in the morning. Reporter so far time has not been on the san jose side. Analysts thought the creek would have stopped rising by early afternoon but it did not. The citys mayor admits the speed of the flood water is staggering. All the data we have been getting so far is not exactly accurate. So im not relying on anything at this point, were just taking care of each other. Reporter others needed a place to stay tonight, i had to say while i was there a lot of people were coming by to donate food, clothes, really anything that they could do to help. Jean marie white showed us these photos where they tried to recover furniture and other items from all the murky water, this is from the downtown san jose area right next to coyote creek. The flooding caused chaos throughout the rock springs neighborhood today. Some made it out on their own while others had to be rescued. Some people were taken by boat, others chose to wade through the water. One elderly woman even rode piggy back on a firefighter. The man who moved quickly to get his car to safety couldnt get back in time to reach his wife and child. Where are they now . Yeah, theyre trying to get out. So they need to be rescued . Yeah. Reporter those who were moved to safety had to be decontaminated in the middle of the street, the city was worried about hazardous materials, everybody just wanted their belongings. I had a lot of clothes from the winter that i had to storage, i had a lot of shoes, my babys toys, all of his stuff down there. Reporter one homeowner has seen floods before but never anything like this as water reached his roof. We were not sure how much water was going to come out and now its just a lot more devastating than we thought. He recorded video showing the patio and the area next to the creek, its not just humans affected by the flooding. Sky 7 showing the horses still in their stalls also flooded with water. And viewers were worried about the horses, and the horses were let out to run to higher ground. And flooding from coyote creek submerged part of highway 101. Abc 7 news was near the area of Bailey Avenue and cochran road. They are closed 11 p. M. Until tomorrow night, the crews are working to create a dam to stop the water from flowing onto the road. Here is the major reason for the flooding, water was pouring from Anderson Reservoir 30 miles away from morgan hill.
