Hes autistic and cant talk, making the search that much more desperate. Good evening. Hours after the sun goes down, a little boy is still missing in san jose. This is 6yearold Sergio Zepeda. In addition to searching for him, San Jose Police are talking to his mother and her boyfriend. Alyssa, you spoke with them, as well. Reporter i did. And they were very worried, especially as it kept getting later and later in the day. Sergio has been missing from his home for 14 hours. And the search does continue into the night. In fact, search and rescue teams were just called back to the staging area. Theyre heading back up the hill to look. Theres also the flyers have been printed. Search dogs, a helicopter and a community looking for this little boy. 6yearold Sergio Zepeda was last seen at his house on san joses rorty drive. He was watching tv and jumping around. When they started to cook breakfast, he was gone. Everybodys worried. Its like, too much time. I dont know where he is. I wish i would know. Reporter sergios mom and her boyfriend have been talking to investigators all day. Thats why theyre in a police car. But theyre not considered suspects. And police say theres no reason to believe foul play was involved. They think sergio got out of the house, through the garage door. We put a latch on the door. And that way, he dont go into the garage. But he open it. He figured out how to open it. Reporter sergio is autistic and does not communicate verbally. He may only be wearing a diaper, no shirt or pants. Police and Search Rescue teams are scouring a threemile radius around his home. Theres a quarry. Creeks. Reporter family members gathered together. Some in tears. A few neighbors showed up to help look. Its an opportunity to try to give back to the community and help. To find a child. I asked them, what would you do . Where would you go . Reporter a helicopter kept watch overhead, even as it got dark. Police say sergio has been known to run off and hide. Theyre asking the public to keep an eye out and to call them if you think you see him. Police in oakland are looking for a hitandrun driver who injured a toddler. Just after 11 00 this morning, officers responded to 35th and international avenue on a report that a 1yearold or 2yearold child had been hit by a car. The driver did not stop. The child reportedly has minor injuries. Police have not released a description of the driver or the car. Emergency crews had to rescue three family members tonight after high tide trapped them on the rocks in half moon day. Cal fire says it happened about a mile and a half south of the Ritz Carlton Hotel around 6 45 tonight. Once crews located the man, woman and 8yearold child, a rescue boat from the San Mateo County harbor master was on to the scene. They were not hurt. A chp helicopter assisted in the rescue. New at 11 00, a family of a Half Moon Bay woman shot and killed by a deputy this summer, is protesting the district attorneys decision not to press charges against the deputy. This group of family and friends demonstrated today in half moon day. She was shot and killed on the night of june 3rd. She was developmentally disabled and refused to take her medication. They called 911 when she grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened her parents. I dont know if it was negligence from the officer, negligence from the 911 dispatcher, but this shouldnt have happened. It could have been handle he could have handled the situation in a different way. The district attorneys report says she charged at the deputy with a knife. The family plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the county. One person is dead after a bizarre Early Morning crash on highway 101 in san jose. A green honda lost control just before 2 00 and crashed into the retaining wall. Two women got out of the car and were standing by the vehicle, when another car slammed into theirs. The impact was so hard, one of the women fell over the retaining wall on to the king road offramp. According to the chp, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Police are looking for a man accused of causing a wreck that ended with a bus crashing into a richmond home. Police say 24yearold Richard Contreras was driving a stolen vehicle that collided with a transit bus. The bus slammed into a house, narrowly missing a 3monthold baby in the living room. Eight people on the bus, including the driver, had minor injuries. Police caught a juvenile who was a passenger in the car. But the driver, the passengers older brother, ran away from the scene. Tonight was the firstever International Soccer game at the new levi stadium in santa clara. We go live outside levi stadium with more. And, lisa, good times inside. But how about outside . Crews are tearing down the San Francisco building that was gutted by a huge fire this week. Theyre starting with the facade of the Retail Business on mission street, between 22nd and 23rd. The building was destroyed thursday afternoon by a fivealarm fire. Building inspectors say it has to come down because the structure is too compromised. It was home to a wholesale shop. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Evacuation orders have been lifted, tonight, for hundreds of homes and businesses near a wildfire burning near Yosemite National park. The fire broke out yesterday near mariposa. So far, no structures have burned. But firefighters say the dry conditions are making it tough to fight the fire. Part of operation urban shield one of the training events across the bay area. Castro valley, pellet weapons were used by police, in a scenario where a gunman takes hostages inside this church. All of the teams that have come through so far, have found this scenario will be very real. It doesnt give them a lot of time to practice or think about what theyre going to do. Crews made up of allwomen are working out on two out of the eight houses to get women into solar. A major wetlands restoration project now under way on San Francisco bay. Youll see how its going to turn back the clock 150 years. And the wildcats, bewilder fishermen off the florida coast. A gorgeous start to the weekend. Temperatures are running a bit below normal. Dont worry. We have a warmup with the forecast, coming up. Over the past 150 years, more than 85 of the wetlands along San Francisco bay have been drained. But a partnership of nonprofit and Government Agencies is undertaking the largest coastal wet la wetlands coastal effort in the country. Dan ashley has the story. Reporter from sky 7 h. D. , you can see the big piece of land that was almost the site of a new indian casino. Instead, its being put back the way nature intended. Were restoring 1,000 acres of tidal marsh in the land awe you see around you. Reporter crews are moving 1 million cubic yards of dirt, enough to fill a line of dump trucks stretching from San Francisco to los angeles. It is led by the land trust, for what is the largest tidal restoration on the west coast. Were going to cut a 300foot hole, a large breach in this levee. Reporter the wetlands are being brought to life south of highway 37, near mere island. Another big wetlands restoration is taking shape. That project is led by the u. S. Fish and wildlife service. Price tag, 15 million to restore 1,500 acres that will be part of the San Pablo BayNational Wildlife refuge. The area out here was farmed for oats and hay. Reporter craig garner is with ducks unlimit, a partner in both projects. We expect to do a lot more. Reporter you may know that wetlands are vit rall for wildlife. But it turns out theyre critical for people, too. The marshes provide a buffer zone to prevent flooding of nearby communities. And they filter out pollution before it gets into the bay. They turn out to be one of the greatest types of habitats to store carbon out of the air. Reporter both projects connect to other marsh restorations. And both face big construction challenges. It requires digging channel, building wide, gradual slopes and creating 500 smile islands, all to support habitat. Reinforcing a levee, so it wont be compromised when bay water comes rushing in. These blocks are part of that process. This is a similar product you see in styrofoam coolers. Its more compressed. Reporter the foam is placed in a trench next to the highway. Then, wrapped in huge plastic sheets before covered with dirt. Levee breaches for both projects are scheduled for next year. But it will take several decades for nature to fully complete the restoration. Both projects will include a lot of Public Access to the wetlands.
