There are 60 building inspectors at work evaluating so many structures to wine country. 29 of the 30 schools in napa will reopen tomorrow. Dan, it is amazing how much trash has been generated by sundays quake. This is one of several new public dumpsites in napa that is growing by the hour. Meantime, others are just trying to pick up the pieces in their lives and trying to get water back in their homes. Finding a plumber, almost impossible. Try to help each other. Joe could be the busiest plumber in america. He has had little sleep since the quake fixing broken pipes and water heaters all over napa county. He said, russ, i will come out as soon as i can, but we have some people with no water at all right now. I said by all means, take care of them first. Across town this mountain of earthquake debris in front of Napa High School is being cleared because School Reopens on wednesday. People are being detoured to the new dumpsite on the west side. Nancy jordan is principal at jaipt son the saint john the baptist school, now yellow tagged because mortar is falling off the building. The nearby church is red tagged due to falling roof tiles. The school is a big mess inside, but she hopes to welcome her schools back next tuesday. Emergency repairs forced the closure of highway 29 near the George Butler bridge. The chp says the asphalt separated along the bridges approach. The lane reopened about 5 00 this afternoon. A stretch of road in napa that started sinking is now a full blown sinkhole. This is craigy court. The crews blamed this on a broken watermain that has left Neighbors Without water since sunday. The quake cracked walls and toppled statues at the house of prayer. The religious retreat and 1920s era money gnaw stare has been closed until a Safety Inspection is complete. They have a lot of work and they are upset about the damage that was done there. You know, in any natural disaster, victims are targets. And in napa tonight, scammers and unlicensed contractors are preying on the vulnerable. Thats why a warning went out to some of of those living in the hardest hit areas. That means just about everyone in the park has power, water, gas and phone service restored. And now the inspectors are coming in. Perhaps you paid your money up front or they will try to. More than a hundred residents of the napa Mobile Home Park packed the hall to find out what to do next. These are the fissures that opened up south of napa. Taking measurements as you can see along with measurements this helps scientists figure out how much the ground moved when the quake struck. Early Warning Technology paid off for vallejo firefighters. 9 detection of the first benign shock wave prevented their garage doors from jamming which could have made it impossible from responding quickly. Some of the same technology can be used else where. The seismic Warning System at five vallejo fire systems activated the garage doors three seconds before the 6. 0 magnitude earthquake struck. It is done so the doors dont twist and buckle in the earthquake and we cant get the fire trucks out of the station. It was a crucial three seconds for an understaffed fire department. In the first hour the city responded to 350 calls. So far 87 homes and buildings in vallejo were damaged. 12 were tagged as unsafe including the First Baptist church where they were canceled because of a damaged bell tower. I had five offers from churches to help out and we will have service someplace. Officials are looking at the extent of the damage city wide. Governor brown is encouraging the use of seismic Warning Systems across the state. It is in hospitals and it brings elevators to the next floor and locks them so they dont get jammed and people get stuck in them. You can turn off gas mains and turn on anything you want to help start the procedures to save precious resources. I started crawling to get to the door and just as i put my right knee on the floor the chimney collapsed on my back. Firefighters arrived shortly after, but the minutes felt like hours. Once at the hospital he underwent 10 hours of surgery to repair his broken pelvis. I have like three plates and two bolts inside of me. He wont be able to walk for six months. They got permission to use this quad copter to shoot damage including at the first United Methodist church.
