And now sandhya patel with a look at what is coping next. What is coming next is a slowmoving soaker for the bay area. Lets go to live doppler 7hd right now, and i will show you what it looks like from that perspective. We have very light, spotty showers showing up around cloverdale. Most of the activity is long gone. We have two more storms coming. The other is getting close to the bay area and the last in the series will arrive over the weekend. We will start with storm number two. Tomorrow morning at 5 00 a. M. , north of santa rosa and it is really light rain, and the rain stays north of there until 1 00 p. M. When it starts to shift southward. Really by 5 00 p. M. , it begins to move in across the coastal areas, the heaviest rain is focused in ukiah. Thats not where the focus will remain. I will be back with a closer look at that storm, and it will dump some heavy rainfall. Impressive totals coming up in a few minutes. Carolyn . Thank you. When the storms come the waters can rise and fall quickly, and today two people and their dog found out the hard way in santa rosa an inch of rain fell before 10 00 a. M. It rushed through the creek where a homeless couple and their dog were taking shelter in this culvert. They were violently pushed out of the culvert. He were swept into the they were swept into the water and suffered exposure and cuts. Firecrews are bracing for more trouble as we head into the weekend. The National Weather service is indicating that the next couple of storms are going to be slower moving with a little bit more rain. There certainly would be the potential for problems. Nearly an inch of rain fell on downtown petaluma and with more systems lined up off the coast, the lowlying areas arent taking any chances. She is helping her father protect the family business, packing dozens of sandbags. There are so many doors around the building that just 30 or a Different Number will not be enough. Ironically they make video pipeline inspection cameras that assess storm water damage. It suffered major damage during the new years day flood of 2005. Storm drains were cleared, but a few areas experienced the usual high tide flooding. The concern now is that local creeks could over flow and flood. Well take a look at the flooding in mill valley. They are sitting in water because the heavy rained combined with high tide is a common problem here. In the east bay the ground was saturated just enough in martinez to topple this tree on brown street. Pg e made repairs and the street is open once again tonight. And a downed tree caused major back ups. Heavy rain and fog made it so difficult to see that the chp slowed down to keep drivers safe. Cal trans is keeping a close eye along eye 1. It it has chronic problems during heavy rain and it is not the only one either. Heather ishimaru is live in daly city where the flooding is a worry there as well. Heather . Reporter dan, this is the daly city vet that was inundated by mud a couple weeks ago. Here the slide covered the road. Down on highway 1 cal trans is worried about the road itself sliding away. The coast can be as beautiful as it is treacherous. Heavy rains called forecloser than usual monitoring for closer than usual monitoring of highway 1 that is prone to rock slides and worse. In 1995 and in 2006 the hillside separated from itself and it headed for the water below calling months long closures. The locals know rain can take away their northsouth route between pacifica and monterra. I have seen that through earthquakes and i have seen it be closed for a year. I have seen everybody get rerouted up thine 2 and down 280. It wouldnt be the first time it has happened. Cal trans is thinking about cleaning out the storm drain. A superintendent drives the highway every day for a visual inspection. And their electronic monitors are alarm sounds in oaknd la. He commutes every day. I had no idea. I am glad they are checked out. He has no car, but walks along it trying to hitch a ride. You can look and see where they have put up support and if one side of the highway falls in, usually the other side of the highway is golden. Reporter in daly city, hey bales are lined up at the bottom of a hillside after a watermain break two weeks ago. The city has spent a half a Million Dollars shoring up the slope that sits above dozens of homes. The mudslide buried a park and some parked cars and heavy rain threatened to cause a repeat mess. Highway 880 is now open, though inspectors are on the scene evaluating the Marina Boulevard overpass. It may be examined by two crushed cars that fell off the back of a truck 2 30 this afternoon. Inspectors had to shutdown two lanes on 880 while they investigated. Those lanes reopened in the last hour. A couple of cars actually crashed into those crushed cars that fell off the truck. One lane on Marina Boulevard remains closed as inspectors continue to do their work, but traffic is moving once again. And late today prison officials denied parole for one of the kidnappers. Now fred woods seen in prison Abducted School children in 1976. They drove them to a quarry in livermore and locked them in a buried moferg van. The 26 children and their bus driver managed to dig their way out after 16 hours. That was before the kidnappers could deliver their 5 million ransom demand. He was released from the mens colony from san luis obispo, but the parole board denied his released saying he would take full responsibility for his role in that crime. A grounds keeper is being called a hero after he pulled two women from a burning rv. It started in the camper and parked outside a home about 8 30 this morning. One of them severely burnt her hand, and they were not able to get out. They were banging and yelling. Mr. Hernandez somehow pried and got the door open and got a garden hose and distinguished a certain amount of the fire. And this little guy, a three monthold puppy was in the burning rv. The temperatures right now are in the 50s, and here are the highlights. The next storm in the north bay is thursday by midday. Wet and windy for the entire bay area on friday and saturday. And it is going to be stormy on sunday morning with some flood concerns as we head into the weekend. Here is a look at the storms. Storm number two will bring heavy rain. It spreads south very slowly between thursday and friday. Storm number three is coming through over the weekend with widespread wind and rain from saturday afternoon through sunday. So lets take a closer look at what is coming, 11 00 tonight maybe a few spotty showers. 5 00 a. M. For the commute north of santa rosa and we will see some rainfall really not expected to be heavy. The rain line starts to move farther south by 1 00 p. M. But it is really not until 5 00 p. M. We start to see some rainfall across the coastal areas and spreading a little more to the south. Heaviest rain is still focused north of santa rosa at 5 00 p. M. Tomorrow. That front is approaching, and as it slowly sags south which is why we are concerned about the heavy nest of the rain, 5 00 a. M. On freeway day it is going to get nasty for the morning commute when many are traveling with innedy with wind econ decisions. We will see scattered showers through the rest of friday and going into saturday. The next batch of heavy rain gets in here on saturday afternoon with storm number three. Thats when we will see the wind pick up and the thunderstorm potential is there of the is there. The north bay mountains up to 10 inches of rain. Thats nearly a foot by 4 00 p. M. On saturday. And that does not include the entire storm on sunday. 3 00 three to 6 inches in the santa cruz mountains. South bay 1 to 2 inches. So urban and small stream flood advisory will likely get issued. Certainly a flood watch is going through the weekend for lake county, Mendocino County and it runs through sunday afternoon. The wind advisory from 4 00 p. M. Tomorrow until 1 00 p. M. On friday. The same areas are getting covered. Gusts to 45 miles an hour. Trees could be down and power lines down. The winter storm warning goes up in the sierra from 4 00 p. M. And we are talking up to 30 inches of new snow above 7,000. The southerly winds up to 80 miles an hour. Upper 40s to mid50s. Grab your umbrellas as you head out the door. You will likely need them in the north bay first. Mid50s to mid60s tomorrow afternoon. And then by evening the rest of the bay area will need them. Wet, windy and possibly thunder on friday, saturday, sunday morning stormy and then it starts to wind down. But more rain in the forecast now. This is the latest update tuesday into wednesday.
