Amy . We are getting a little break in the action right now. There is still some standing water here on miller avenue in mill valley. The tide is receding. It has improved here. At one point you couldnt get through and they had to close down the street. The situation is getting better. Is one of several troubled spots from this mornings storm. With gusts of wind up to 40 Miles Per Hour in novato this morning, it was more than some trees could handle. A huge tree fell on hill road. It took crews about three hours to clear it and open the road. We have another tree down we have to respond to. This came down on pos sato del sol and landed on a car. I wasnt expecting the heavy winds, thats for sure. He say this is looks like a pine tree that had been under too much stress. Its filled almost at the base. So it was weak. Probably due to the droughts. Wind wasnt the only challenging element this morning. Flooding was also an issue. We hit a huge puddle on the connector ramp from 580 to 680 and werent expecting it. The camera on our hood caught the moment. Notice its dark and raining and you cant see it. And then boom. We felt suddenly out of control. The chp says when this happens to you, the best thing to do is stay calm. Dont freak out as much as possible. No heavy braking applications, no quick steering movements. Mill valley led with flooding and high tide. Look at the park lot at holiday inn. Chp says with the rain and wind it was a busy morning. The wind today was a good a lot of debris calls this morning. As the driving in those winds, the chp tells me they have the biggest impact on the trucks and vans. If youre driving near one of those, you might want to move over, give them extra room because the wind could knock them into another lane. In the north bay mountains, east bay hills where we could still have gusts up to 50 Miles Per Hour until 4 00. Potential for downed trees and more power outages. Right now our rain is very light and mainly steady around candle up towards san jose, cupertino. Right along 280 as it comes into 17. This is about it as far as the steady rain. Abc 7 news was along santa clara street in downtown san jose this morning. You can see umbrellas. We caught up with one woman with the right attitude. Its kind of neat that even though its raining its not really cold. I didnt put my sweatshirt on until i got here. I was standing outside my apartment earlier. And i was like, it isnt that bad. Police are investigating whether rain played a role in this crash that left two pedestrians hurt, one critically. It hapt just after 6 30 this morning at the intersection of lone tree way and davidson drive. Police say the victims were walking in the road when they were hit. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. A 19yearold is in jill after police say he went on a drunk driving rampage. In the end he hit six other vehicles and killed a person. Abc 7 News Reporter matt keller is live in san jose where Police Arrested that suspect. Matt . Reporter the suspected is in jail this midday. As for the victim, hes a 36yearold man. The medical Examiners Office is not releasing his name until they notify his family. This was the end here on center road. According to police, it was the end of a drunk driving rampage in this black ford expedition, over a mile and a half of roads in san jose. It was also the end of a mans life. Police say this drunk driving rampage started at this dennys on capitol expressway. The driver hit one vehicle on his way out of the parking lot and another as he was headed toward capital expressway. The suspect then drove southbound on center road and hit two parked cars before he flipped a u turn on el cajon drive. At this point the driver approached singleton drive. It was red. He ignored that and went right through it. Crashing into a yellow vw beetle. That causeed the folks to be pushed northward. The suspect vehicle impacted directly with the drivers side door and we believe that killed the diver of the volkswagen. Reporter the suspects car was disabled after it hit another car at another intersection. He was booked for felony drunk driving, hit and run and two warrants. Amazingly no one else was injured. Seven cars wrecked in total, but the most heartbreaking damage was done to the family and friends of the victim killed by an alleged drunk driver. This has been a deadly year on san jose roads. Police confirmed he was shot to death but havent released any other details about what may have happened. San jose police say nearly 30 gang members are under arrest after a sting operation. Operation grinch targeted people wanted in a threeyear string of home burglaries. People say members of nortinas gang followed people home from Jewelry Stores and looted their homes. Were expecting to hear from a man awarded more than 11 million after being terrorized by san jose police. He and his family are hoping to hold a News Conference in oakland. Officers say they were forced to shoot because he was holding a knife and threatening to shoot himself. The city of san jose is deciding whether to challenge the jury verdict. You know a couple hours either side of that is when we start to see the flooding. We have a storm with moderate showers on thursday. You see the morning hours, thinning out. During the Late Afternoon and early evening you can see it continues to thin. The winds will calm a little bit but we wont completely get rid of them. It will keep our temperatures in the 40s instead of frosty cold in the 30s. See where the showers are at 5 00, 8 00 tomorrow morning . Mainly right along the coast. Theres a slight chance of scattered showers in the north bay tomorrow afternoon in the evening hours, ahead of our next system. As you see the wind shift to the west, that will blow the next system in. It comes in the heart of the morning rush if there is one. Thursday, it is christmas eve. You can see the colder air behind it, the pinks and the blues as the snow level will fall post steady showers it will take the scattered showers that will roll in around 9 00 through 5 00 in the afternoon to bring us whitecapped hilltops for christmas eve. Those will last during the overnight hours, also, and maybe wake up to them also on christmas morning. For the next storm, around a quarter to have inch. When it hits, it will hit hard which could cause some street flooding. Its going to come down that fast. Its not going to have a lot of wind with it. Were going to give it a minimal two right now and maybe downgrade it to a one. Theres a slight chance some of those showers could contain thunder on the back side of that initial wave of steady rain that moves through during the morning hours. For friday, saturday, most of sunday, its going to be much quieter, low to mid 50s instead of 60s like today. A lot of people traveling on thursday.
