Abc 7 News Reporter joins us live with this very sad story. Amy . Reporter i just got briefed by a bart official here in oakland, carol, they have figured out the victim was a man. He was on a section of track thats not accessible to the public, but they have found a hole in the fence there. While doing all this investigating, though, they had to shut down Train Service, inconveniencing thousands of people. Even the station agent at south hayward was surprised by the news this morning. She quickly made signs that would soon surprise passengers, announcing no Train Service south of hayward. Customers were not happy. Going to be a really bad commute for me now, i have to go all the way to berkeley for work. Reporter trains did not run because someone was killed on the tracks last night. Investigators wanted to wait until the Morning Light to make sure they got all of their evidence before they let the trains through here. It was obviously a long shutdown and inconvenienced about 7,500 people, and its not something we want to happen, but when theres something of this nature, it takes time to investigate. Reporter the station agent at south hayward did her best to greet people before they even got out of the car, which meant she did a lot of running. Even though she tried to keep people moving and informed, the lack of trains frustrated many. Some days on strike, its just driving us crazy. Reporter much of the burden then fell to a. C. Transit. This was the line of people that had to get off bart in hayward but still needed a ride further south. They didnt have enough workers to create a bus bridge, so existing bus lines had to do. Hard to be at work on time, you know, but sometimes it happens with public transportation. Reporter police are still trying to figure out how someone got on to the tracks and why. So far it looks like what they term as an unattended death, meaning that there were no direct witnesses who saw what happened. Reporter service was restored just before 8 00 this morning. At this point, police dont know who the man is who was killed overnight, and they are still trying to figure out why he was on the tracks but they dont suspect any suspicious behavior. Its a story youll see only on abc 7 news. Lincoln elementary is just a few feet from the building where Alameda County wants to relocate its Probation Department. Officials tell abc 7 news that all types of offenders, even sex offenders would report there. The Probation Department was already in the process of moving in when School Administrators and parents found out. Alameda county supervisor says the county is now trying to move part of the department to another building so parolees wont come anywhere near the school. New this morning, plans to build a controversial hightech surveillance center. The Council Approved the Domain Awareness Center overnight. The vote was initially tied, but it was broke with a yes vote. The 10 Million Center will be funded by homeland security. Opponents are concerned it will be used for warrantless surveillance on the public. To the family of a patient who disappeared and was later found dead at San FranciscoGeneral Hospital is now suing the city. 57yearold Lynne Spalding vanished from the hospital september last year. Her body was found more than two weeks later in a stairwell. State Health Inspectors blame spaldings disappearance and death on the hospital and sheriffs department. The family is holding a News Conference this morning to talk about the claim. Police are considering whether or not to file charges against a transgender student who admitted to making up a story about being sexually assaulted by a fellow student. This student, who identifies as male, told police three boys attacked him at the Hercules High School on monday. Investigators became suspicious when they couldnt find any signs of injury. The student confessed yesterday to making up the story. This morning, Computer Security experts are warning netflix customers of a scam circulating the internet. Hackers are using a phoney web page that looks a lot like the netflix login page to get unsuspecting customers to enter their account info, and when they do, this pops up. Its a fake site claiming the account is suspended because of unusual activity. It gives a bogus 1800number to regain access. Dont call the number. Those who have, were directed to Download Network support software that gave scammers complete access to their computers. United airlines are cracking down on passengers who try to slip on the plane with a larger than normal bag, even sending some folks back to the ticket counter to check their baggage for the fee. United says its better enforcing rules, but some travelers say this is just another way for the airline to make more money. The first big changes to the s. A. T. S since 2005, when it changed the scoring system. The new changes come as some colleges begin dropping s. A. T. It turns out that google held extensive talks with the National ParkService Last Year about bringing its barge to San Franciscos fort mason. This is a live picture right here looking from our emeryville camera. According to documents attained by the San Jose Mercury news, its still under construction that barge is here off treasure island, but when finished, the barge is supposed to be a floating exhibition space. Documents show the plan to bring the barge to fort mason fell apart because of construction delays and difficulty obtaining permits. Treasure island says the barge could be moved this week to stockton. Dont be alarmed, an astroid that will come closer than the moon is to us will pass by the earth two hours from now. Nasa says an astroid traveling at 33,000 miles an hour will pass about 217 miles from our planet. Scientists say dont worry, even though this approach is extra close, it doesnt pose any danger of a collision. Katy perry might want to stick to the music. San jose, youre going to be one of the last years, you and all the south bay to see the rain during the evening hours. You may get through the commute dry, but the rest of us, its coming down from the north and will be everywhere during the evening hours, warmer and brighter sfrid and saturday and a chance of rain returns sunday.
