Many people were in shock and there was fear of aftershocks as its really difficult to hear about the damages that were done the next morning we walked through town and the bakers chimney had fallen off and we had talked to him the night before and he was trying to get bread out to the community, trying to feed people amid the tragedy. Thats the value of ownership. Billions of dollars worth of Solano County farmland has revealed a plan to quite literally build a better bay area. They want to build a new city. Since 2018, flannery ciat has quietly acquired more tn 55,000 acres of land, some of which is now surrounding Travis Air Force base. The firms parent company, California Forever revealed the plans to build a new community after launching this website last week. This week, the firm will continue meeting with local, state and federal officials to discuss their vision. Fairfield mayor Catherine Moy recently met with the firms ceo. She spoke with abc7 news iteam reporter stephanie sierra about those discussed options. Youve raised numerous concerns before about all this, including access to water, lack of infrastructure. Did you get a sense of how they plan to tackle that . Well well i know that they have some water rights, but is it enough for a city . Absolutely not. I sit on the water agency as mayor. Weve turned down mills tens of dollars from from flannery to buy some of our land because they wanted it close to the base. It doesnt make sense to me. Still so now, to add to that, did you get a better understanding of how this city will be powered . Well that is a bit of an issue. They said that what they are going to do is do mostly solar farms and thats a problem or it could be a problem with an air base because a reflection. But there are new solar panels that you can use on bases and some do. So thats what theyre talking about. We know that pgandes does not have the power grid to hold up a new city. They cant even open some of our new car dealership. So those are on generators or were because pgandes cant cant do it. So its not coming from there. Thats interesting. Well, last time we spoke, you discussed potential access to a large amount of natural gas underground where flannery has acquired land. Do you have reason to believe that this could be related to these purchases . I actually do. There is a lot of natural gas or was and used, but deep down, from what i understand from some people and im still digging into it, is that there is a lot of natural gas deeper in underground. And the problem is access is congressman John Garamendi raised concerns last week. The firm may move forward with an initiative that could impact zoning requirements around travis. But flannery has since told us they dont plan to build any homes within one mile of the base. Do you think theres reason to be concerned about that . I do. Its my biggest concern. When i did ask john about this and john told me that that they are moving forward and in november, during the president ial election here, we will have on our ballot something that will actually take away the current general plan for Solano County. Now you mentioned before you asked the ceo, john sramek, why why he purchased the land surrounding Travis Air Force base. What was his response to that . He said he wants to protect the base. Um, im im im not believing everything hes saying. I need to be convince first that thats what he wants. But it certainly uncomfortable for the base. I speak with a commander there, my city manager, and i are tuned into the department of defense and we understand what they see as a threat. Theres more news ahead, including the familiar health scare thats led to an audit of hundreds of schools across california. And summer seems to be winding down with some beautiful weather. Weve just gotten spoiled rotten lately. We have its perfect blue skies behind us and all around the bay area. In fact, its so quiet on live doppler seven, were not picking up any clouds, any moisture in the sky. The only thing you need to look out for is the beach hazards in monterey bay. This is in effect until 11 00 this evening because of a strong southerly swell, 4 to 8 foot breaking waves are possible , especially for south facing beaches. And this does increase your risk of dangerous rip currents. Right now, theyre at about five feet in monterey bay. And just gorgeous from mount tam. As we look south, you can see San Francisco go there. Blue skies all around. Temperatures really warmed up. Inland but it has been cooler at the coast. San francisco, 65 degrees right now. Oakland down to 69. But were still seeing 70s in mountain view, san jose, 78 Half Moon Bay has been one of the cooler spots with that sea breeze and partly cloudy conditions at 63 from emeryville. Were looking across the bay and you can see San Francisco there. A little bit of the ripple with a light sea breeze around 10 to 15 miles an hour in santa rosa, still 85 degrees. Novato 82. Napa, 77. Fairfield had hit about 95 today. Right now its at 89. Upper 80s in concord and livermore at 84 degrees, down from 90 earlier. And what youll notice is the lack of cloud cover and the marine layer at the golden gate bridge. So it will be mostly clear tonight, sunny again tomorrow, but it could be a few degrees cooler in some spots and then its going to be even breezier and cooler on tuesday will be below normal. Temperatures will come down. Another average of four degrees for most areas. Heres a look at the forecast animation. So midnight tonight, notice not too many clouds, even 7 00 tomorrow morning. The marine layer is just along the coast, mainly the San Mateo County coast. Lots of sunshine, but then the clouds will really push in into tuesday morning. And thats when we see the cooler weather. Temperatures tonight mainly in the 50s cooler in the north bay, low 50s there. Well see some upper 50s like san jose, antioch, 60 degrees. And then tomorrow its going to be mild to hot again. So at the beaches, low 60s around the bay, some 70s near 80 in some spots and near 90 for some of our inland areas. So its going to be just another beautiful september day. Enjoy it while you can. It will be cooler and breezier on tuesday with more cloud cover and a thicker marine layer. Tuesday morning. And then we warm up on wednesday just a little bit. Were actually close to average and on Cruise Control all week long into next weekend. Now abc seven sports with chris alvarez.
