San francisco, oakland 53, in san jose, Half Moon Bay 52. And theres a look at pier 39, where temperatures are really not too far off from the peninsula and the south bay with upper 40s, but that petaluma at 46, thats chilly and 51 in concord. So as we look at the 24 hour temperature change, a couple degrees cooler in the north bay, a couple degrees milder elsewhere. So as we go through the morning hours, well begin to see more sunshine. And then by noontime were in the low 70s inland low 60s around the coast and could see a random 80 out there towards brentwood. Well talk about sundays warmth arriving in a few minutes. Stephanie. All right. Lisa thank you. A celebration of life was held for Mario Gonzales. It was three years ago. He died after officers pinned him to the ground, face down for several minutes. The replacement golden gate Transit Bus Service is now available. Theres no estimate on when it will reopen. Another heads up for travelers in the north bay this weekend. As of last night, westbound lanes of highway 37 will be closed from vallejo to sears point in Sonoma County for roadway repair. That closure will last until early monday morning. Abc seven News Reporter cornell bernard has a look at the impact. Its going to be a mess, but thats what you cant avoid it. Drivers in American Canyon are bracing for a big construction project, which will shut down portions of highway 37 over the next four weekends. Even before the construction. 37 has always been a problem because 37 has a lot of, a lot of, potholes. Part of the process is were going to be grinding and repaving. Caltrans says a 21 mile stretch of 37 from solano to sonoma counties is getting new asphalt. They say its a challenging job on a two lane road. Having a 55 hour closure allows our crews to stage safely and be able to work on, like you said, that limited space and maneuver. So, its very beneficial for us to be able to do so. And that is the limitation this weekend. The closure from 9 p. M. Friday to 5 a. M. Monday will impact westbound lanes of 37 from vallejo to sears point. Caltrans suggests detours through wine country. It is going to be a long detour, so please plan ahead with plenty of time. Ramsgate winery in the Sonoma Valley posting this message to visitors on its Instagram Page about the 37 construction, you do not want to miss the sonoma speed tour. April 19th through the 21st sonoma raceway, hosting this muscle car event. Over the weekend, Ticket Holders have been notified about possible delays getting here. Youre going to have a detour. Why not let it be through wine country to get here, but you know, its still easy to access the track. Theres still an easy way to get here. The repaving project, the first step in reimagining highway 37, which has seen roadway flooding and closures in recent years, a long time project calls for widening and elevating the highway. But for now, drivers are being asked to be patient. We asked the public to plan ahead as best as possible. Please look at maps and traffic applications in Sonoma County. Cornell, bernard abc seven news. Looking ahead now to the most significant legal case on homelessness in decades, its now headed to the Supreme Court next week. Governor gavin newsom and San Francisco mayor london breed are among the california leaders, asking the Supreme Court to give them more freedom to clear encampments. Advocates like Jennifer Friedenbach say sweeps wont solve the problem. We dont want to see cities, using police and, using criminalization and jail as a way to punish Homeless People for being homeless. The Supreme Courts decision is expected by the end of june. A big change is coming to the annual 420 celebration at Golden Gate Park today, the San Francisco rec and Parks Department is holding a field day with volleyball and kickball tournaments instead of the usual hippie hill event. It was canceled because of financial constraints, but that likely wont stop people who still want to celebrate cannabis culture. I think its an opportunity for to get back to the noncommercial roots of enjoyment of cannabis, and i hope that many people come out who might not have come to a big commercial sponsored event and make a day of it and have a picnic with their families and pass around a couple joints here on hippie hill. And then theres this an anticipation of these crowds. The psychedelic church of ambrosia is teaming with nonprofits to send safety staff portable toilets and a medical tent to the park. As we head to break, lets check in with lisa. Hows it looking outside . Weve got a marine layer out there. You can see the clouds. The view here from mount tam. More 60s yesterday, but more 70s today. And then well turn it up a notch for your sunday. Were talking about High Pressure building in but the clouds scattering out today. You can see the camera shaking a bit. Well talk about the winds that onshore flow as well. Coming up lisa thank you. Also ahead a rare saturday vote happening in the house today. The controversial bill that could jeopardize speaker Mike Johnsons position. Plus, here in San Francisco, we may be getting some giant pandas. The timeline for the zoo and the price tag that could i was like shaking you know,. When i first reached out to jacoby and meyers. I didnt know if i had a case o. As soon as i got a hold of my. The sfmta says their enforcement plan is all about public safety, but some san franciscans believe its also about Something Else money and the budget deficit. Abc seven News Reporter luz pena has this story. Parking enforcement officers in San Francisco are gearing up to ticket more people. Our parking control officers are going to be doing some intense operations in each supervisorial district, sfmtas director Jeffrey Tumlin announced. The citys Parking Enforcement officers will finally be able to start enforcing all the parking rules, something some san franciscans feel like has been happening. Catching, catching. Thats the sound of money leaving james account when he got a parking ticket several weeks ago, i was before it was parking in a commercial space with a noncommercial vehicle, tumlin said. Their Parking Department was short staffed during the pandemic, but some san franciscans say they didnt notice a change in the last four years. Alan showed us the ticket. He got just last week. This is a parking ticket i got the other day for parking during street sweep hours. Our data team analyzed San Franciscos parking citation data and found that in 2023, the majority of violations listed were for street cleaning. Over 500,000 tickets were issued for this. Sfmta said their focus will be public safety. The safety oriented rules like parking on the sidewalk, blocking fire hydrants, blocking the crosswalk, Sustainable Transportation advocate Luke Bornheimer is glad this enforcement is coming. We know that people who park on sidewalks or in bike lanes or in crosswalks or really close to intersections reduce safety for all people, but especially for children and seniors. People with disabilities who walk, bike or use mobility devices to get around sfmtas plan comes after mayor london breed announced the city Street Safety plan, a decade after vision zero policy began. Supervisor mandelman is hopeful this enforcement will help public safety. I have been frustrated for many years about cars blocking bike lanes, parking in the street in ways that are dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. Sfmta anticipates a 12. 7 million deficit during the fiscal year 2024 to 2025, and 2025 to 2026, a deficit that makes some san franciscans question the latest enforcement announcement tonight. Well, the whole city is trying to get more money because of the deficit, the budget deficit. That was luz pena reporting. The data shows that the number of tickets issued each month by sfmta over the last four years has stayed approximately the same. An sfmta said they are planning to increase their enforcement count at the end of april across the bay area. Now several cities have been added to the states pro housing designation. Governor gavin newsom today announced that berkeley, pinole, richmond and fairfield are joining 42 other cities honored for their efforts to encourage more housing development. The list includes a total of 16 bay area cities. The designation comes with financial centives and other resources production. The state is facing a major housing shortage and has set a goal for 2. 5 million new homes by 2030. Now National Parks week kicks off today, and to celebrate entry fees to all National Parks are waived for the day. Many parks are already free, like point reyes or the presidio, but others like yosemite, kings canyon and sequoia National Parks are free for the entire day. Other sites, like muir woods, require a reservation, and alcatraz requires a ferry ticket to get to the island and we have some good weather in store for it. Today. Lisa is tracking everything you need to know and as we were chatting earlier, its nice to say no rain for this weekend. Yes, for this weekend well be around average, a little bit above average today in some neighborhoods and then a lot above average for your sunday, which will be likely the warmest day of the week, although well hold on to that warmth on monday , even though that sea breeze will try to come back as we look at live doppler seven. Its quiet out there. You can see a few clouds around. This is associated with that onshore flow, and most of us waking up to some clouds. Those will scatter out. But above the marine layer from vollmer peak, you can see how pretty it is there where temperatures will touch uh maybe even 80 degrees. Well, in our inland valleys today, but more likely upper 70s and those 80s arriving for your sunday afternoon inland. So current numbers look like this anywhere from the low 50s in palo alto, 50 two Half Moon Bay in oakland, and San Francisco, 53 san jose. And from our exploratorium camera 627 the official sunrise, a cool 46 in petaluma 49. Santa rosa 50. Napa. Fairfield and livermore. Concord at 51 and the golden gate bridge. Mostly clear there, but overall, well see more clouds this morning as the low cloud deck peels back. Well have sunny skies for the day today. Those breezy winds at the coast and that spring warmth carries over into sunday, which well see temperatures climb as High Pressure builds and less of a marine influence. And then as that High Pressure fades away, well look for more cloud cover, cooler conditions, maybe even some rain by friday. Heres a look. Early this morning. In the next few hours, the clouds from the peninsula to the east bay. Then we get into sunny conditions and starting out sunday morning, notice it will be a clear start out there, making way for a quicker warm up, so the winds continue to increase right along the coast throughout the â– day. This is noontime and we have winds up to about 20 miles an hour, but through the afternoon and evening were up to 30 to 35 miles an hour. Right along the coast here. And then inside the bay. It will be a little breezy there. Much less wind will be arriving for your sunday. If youre headed to the ballpark today. Low 60s, bright and breezy. Sunny with temperatures in the mid 60s as we head towards the ninth inning. So tomorrow with those low to mid 80s inland, you can see the warmth there even about 80 degrees up in sonoma, 73 in oakland. Look for mid 60s San Francisco and well look for the temperatures to come down slightly right along the coast there, but Still Holding on to those 80s inland mid 70s around hayward. But by tuesday look at the drop off. We are all into the 60s even struggling to make it out of the 50s there along the shoreline. So as for today, look for that low 70s there in oakland, 73 in fremont, upper 70s, and even maybe warmer than that in some spots. 79 santa rosa. So thats well above average today. And then overnight tonight, looking at temperatures just a little bit milder will be in the upper 40s to about 53. There in fremont and concord. So the accuweather seven day forecast weve got about 60 at the coast. Low 70s around the bay near 80 inland after the gray start. Sunny and warmer for your sunday. And then as we get into monday, the warmth holds certainly around the bay and inland. Tuesday were cooler, partly cloudy on wednesday, and then the increasing clouds leading to maybe some raindrops thursday night into friday. We havent brought in our storm impact scale because it should be a pretty weak system, with maybe a couple hundredths if we see any rain. So the systems from here on out will probably be tapering off. You pointed out. You know, you could say that, but i remember some junes particular graduation where it just poured. So you never know. So we never know. We will see. Yes. Thank you lisa. Well we are constantly working to build a better bay area. And one of the main issues is being highlighted this weekend. Where you can see there is a bit of a marine layer and temperatures are pretty much where they were yesterday. Within a few degrees 52 San Francisco and oakland with 53. In san jose, 55, hayward 51. Palo alto and at the coast, 50 degrees. Theres a look where you can see from our sutro tower camera. The low clouds and fog, upper 40s petaluma, santa rosa with 51. In concord, 50 in livermore. A unique partnership between the Presidio TrustCalifornia Academy of sciences is bringing a lost part of the bay area Natural Environment back to life. Its a melding of science and conservation thats about to take flight. Abc7 news anchor dan ashley has these details. And if you look through that, you can see the wings. Not many butterflies get the celebrity treatment, but then again, this bunch is about to make history. Turning the clock back nearly a century in San Franciscos presidio Durrell Kapan is a Senior Research fellow at the California Academy of sciences. He says the butterflies will replace a long lost species called the xerces blue, that went extinct in the 1940s. This blue was a beautiful blue butterfly that was restricted to the dune habitat from fort funston to baker beach. That was before the west side of San Francisco transformed from sand dunes to development, wiping out their habitat. But ecologist lew stringer says the presidio has spent decades restoring the native dunes around the former army post, including butterfly friendly plants like the edible deerweed. If we didnt have this habitat, we wouldnt have the plant and we wouldnt have the ability to bring back the species that was lost to San Francisco. So with butterflies in tow, the team hit the trail. But they say the scientific part of the journey actually began much earlier in the sand dunes of monterey. Thats where biologists from the academy were able to identify the closest living relative to the extinct blue searcys. Combining sophisticated genetics with matching samples from their own collection, the results pointed to a species known as the silvery blue. In fact, we sequenced the complete genome of three different subtypes of the silvery blue butterflies, so we could say which one was closer to. Just push it right in there and with a delicate touch. Wildlife ecologist Phoebe Parker shams helped settle the presidios newest residents into their adopted home. Oh my gosh, look at it, look. Oh look at that already. It already jumped out, placing them underneath a protective net to let them get acclimated and even giving them a quick drop of gatorade for hydration and they get a sense of this is good habitat and then they stay, hopefully stay put, sort of get the way worked into the plant, hopefully lay some eggs, on those plants.
