On the scene trying to repair the street a heres wherets all taking place. The water main break happened last night on fillmore at union streets and then just o ocks away, a sinkhole opened on green street. Abc seven News Reporter luis pena has the details and talked to residents and businesses in that area. A massive sinkhole is taking over the intersection of green and fillmore streets in San Francisco. The road caved in after one of the citys aging water pipes broke overnight, sending droves of water rushing down multiple streets. What we have here is a probably at least a 70 year old, six 18 inch cast iron. So its an old pipe. Proactively, the Public Utilities commission assess is prioritizes and repairs around 9 to 10 miles of pipeline in a year. But you know, leaks still do happen. Amanda scott was on lombard street around midnight when she noticed sewage and mud flooding her street, the entire street coming down. Steiner and fillmore was basically a river. And im not saying a river in terms of a light stream. I mean, a river. Scott describes jumping into action to help save her neighborhood. And i just took my shoes off, rolled up my pants and started digging through the sewers and taking all of the debris and then trying to put it on, frankly, Higher Ground if there was anything. So how many drains did you clear . Seven at the street water rushed into multiple businesses on fillmore street. One of them was wilder for its utter chaos. I mean, the floor is caked in mud. And then underneath that, a layer of water. Please watch your step as you come on in kingston woo wilders managing partner walked us through where they believed the first wave of water came in. It actually entered through the back door of your business. It would be my guess first. And then. And then as the water trickled down the street, it probably came through the front door as well too. Damages are hard to quantify, but wu says its in the thousands of dollars a hard hit for a business that just opened two years ago. The water kind of makes his way through the floorboards onto the walls, into crevices. I was just talking to my contractor. One of the things that were going to need to address is, is that mud likely drained into our in restaurant drains . And once the mud hardens, it could act like a cement block in San Francisco, luz pena, abc seven news. Oakland Police Confirmed to abc seven news they are investigating at least two burglaries in the last week. On monday, they say these kinds of crimes have gone up. What weve seen throughout the city, including Little Saigon international and even some of our business corridors, is increase in robberies and burglaries, robberies, street level robberies, as well as auto burglaries and in some regards, commercial burglaries. Oakland police say thieves are targeting stores that have large amounts of cash inside and stores that carry high end merchandise. These are efforts for individuals to get ahold of them very rapidly and try and either offload to a vendor to get more money or to have cash on hand. Ali says he has lost thousands in recent robberies and repairing the damage isnt cheap, grabbing all the expensive liquor broke into the office, took the money. The damage was about 30,000. Theft was about 20. So that was 50,000in like ten minutes. He says in order to solve the problem, oakland needs to put a lot of its resources to stopping crime. Were paying taxes. More changes to the office of san joses independent Police Auditor just months after the top watchdog retired, the assistant Police Auditor, has now stepped down. Abc7 news south bay reporter Dustin Dorsey has a look at what she said in her letter of resignation in its current existence. This office is without real power or respect from either anyone at city leadership level nor as jpd. A scathing statement from san joses outgoing assistant independent Police Auditor, eva roa, part of a letter obtained by abc7 news questioning how city leaders handle misconduct allegations and how the city treats employees in general. Roa is resignation comes three months after siobhan neri retired as the san jose Police Departments top watchdog. The independent Police Auditor office is tasked with making sure city internal investigations into officer misconduct are fair and thorough. A mission roa has grave concerns about the office being able to actually carry out. According to the letter sj pd officers face multiple accusations of misconduct in 2022, including showing up drunk on the job, indecent exposure and fentanyl overdose. After joining the ipa in january 2020, roa said the office ceased to exist in the mind of san jose leaders until the annual year end report, or when a National Event or moment of crisis occurs. Roa wrote. The city is merely doing window dressing as to oversight of Police Misconduct and the concerns of the people of san jose regarding such conduct. We reached out to the mayor, city manager, City Attorney and san jose Police Department about this letter and have not received comment back. I dont believe theres any meat behind that complaint at acting ipa. Karen senanu tory told us she learned roa had long planned leaving the office and added the complaints detailed in the letter were not shared with her before roas resignation. She stands by the work of the office of the ipa and believes these accusations are without merit. If you read the letter, theyre very general complaints. Theres no there. There so without having had a discussion with her, she was gone. By the time i returned. And its very hard for me to address anything other than the emotions in the letter. The office will look to fill roas role as a search for a permanent ipa continues in san jose. Dustin dorsey, abc seven news. This new framing coming after the convicted murderer made his spider like escape from the Chester County prison. Police believe hes still in pennsylvania. I have no reason to believe that he is not i dont believe he has the resources to get out of pennsylvania. And again, other pieces of information that that we have generated within this investigation lead me to believe that he is still here. The search for cavalcante has drastically shifted north of the original search area after the fugitive slipped through a show of force perimeter late last week. Cnn asked if mistakes were made by police. I dont know that i would characterize it as a mistake. I knew that there were weaknesses in that perimeter. It was a very strong perimeter, as far as perimeters go. But there are always weaknesses in that place posed some very unique challenges. This all comes after Pennsylvania StatePolice Revealed sunday that cavalcante slipped out of its perimeter near the sprawling longwood gardens, undetected for hours. Police said cavalcante stole this white van from a dairy farm saturday night. Not far from the prison. The keys were left in the car in. Investigators believe he then drove north more than 20 miles to the phoenixville area. There he tried to contact two former coworkers during one attempt revealing this new appearance on a doorbell cam, now clean shaven with a greenish hoodie. Investigators found the van sunday morning, but cavalcante was nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, another new twist emerging Law Enforcement revealing cavalcantis sister has been arrested by immigration and customs enforcement. Though not saying explicitly whether she is believed to be helping her brother. Her arrest was again because she is an overstay. That was a process that that that would play out for anyone in her same circumstance. And what i would say is she has she has failed to cooperate. And so there was no value in Law Enforcement keeping her here at this point. Ice did notrillioneturn our request for comment. I had no idea he could do Something Like this. Franco would not provide his last name, but told a cnn affiliate he was cavalcantis old roommate. He was someone super shy, like really quiet. He had he would drink his beers on the weekend, make barbecue, and working a lot. Now hes offering to help police put him back behind bars. I just want him to be caught so i can sleep. I can go live my normal life. Everybody can feel safe again. And yeah, he has to pay for what he did. That was Danny Freeman reporting. Cavalcante was found guilty last month of killing his ex girlfriend. He was sentenced to life in state prison and was awaiting a transfer to a more secure facility. When he escaped. Police have issued a 25,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest. A miracle ending for an american trapped in a cave in turkey tonight. He is safe and in good spirits. It is going to push into our north, but its going to drag a dry, cold front through. And as it does the air mass will be cooler tomorrow. Certainly some fog on live doppler seven right near the coastline. Winds theres still onshore about 13 miles an hour in San Francisco. Theyre going to be picking up tomorrow afternoon and evening. Heres a live view from our Golden Gate Bridge camera. And visibility is still okay from this vantage point. 59in the city, oakland Mountain View, 62 to 63 degrees mid 60s, around san jose and it is 61 degrees right now in Half Moon Bay from our emeryville camera, we are looking at the gray skies once again, low to mid 60s from santa rosa to napa, fairfield, concord, youre in the upper 60s and livermore 62 degrees sfo camera. You can pretty much see the gray skies, the overcast conditions areas of fog during the overnight hours. Were looking at breezy and cooler weather tomorrow afternoon with those minor ups and downs in those temperatures. This week as we go hour by hour, 10 00 tonight, 60 for the most part, inland 50s coast side. Youll notice that fog around first thing in the morning around parts of the coast and the bay, 7 a. M. I think youll need a light jacket with those 50s and 60s. It is going to be breezy to start the day and the winds will pick up later on the afternoon. But nice looking day in the afternoon. Were looking at 80s inland 60s coast. Ill show you where the ultimately will land afternoon in the afternoon hours is when the winds are going to be picking up tonight. Gusty along the coastline. By tomorrow morning, about 20 to 22 mile an hour winds. And you will notice those winds coming up as we go into the afternoon.
