A retailer in San Franciscos landmark mall, formerly known as the westfield San Francisco center, has filed a lawsuit against the former owners. The Company BehindAmerican Eagle is alleging mismanagement and letting crime run rampant. West field is no longer running. San franciscos downtown mall. Abc7 News ReporterGloria Rodriguez joining us live in the newsroom with the details on this. Hi, gloria. Good morning, kumasi. The complaint claims that there were more than 100 security incidents at this American Eagle, San Francisco location between may of 2022 and may of 2023. It says store employees suffered multiple physical attacks and assaults with someone even threatening them with a machete. Now, this is a lawsuit that retail west, which owns American Eagle, has filed against the owners of the mall, formerly known as westfield San Francisco center, saying they are to blame for problems that their store has encountered. The complaint claims that westfield failed to maintain common areas of the mall like they were obligated to in their lease, calling it a breach of contract and saying that westfield must be held accountable for the damages caused by its failures and broken promises. Legal analysts Stephen Clark believes that American Eagles end game is to get out of their ten year lease, which was signed in 2017. Not wanting to be the last retailer left there with nordstrom and others leaving American Eagle is allowed out of its lease based on the crime, the violence, the shoplifting and the other problems at the mall. I think youll see a lot of other retailers looking at this as a tool to say we want out as well. This lawsuit is interesting because now we have a retailer inside of westfield, one of the big remaining ones saying, hey, wait a minute, you guys didnt take care of some of the conditions inside of the mall when you could have. That was reporter laura wax, a woman who was the first to break news of the lawsuit in the San Francisco business times. The complaint mentions a request for monetary compensation for American Eagle, but no specific number was given. American eagle representatives are not commenting on this and westfield representatives say they are declining to comment now because they have not been served the lawsuit. Live in the newsroom, Gloria Rodriguez, abc seven news. Thanks, gloria. Hey reggi. Moderna says they not only have a vaccine, which they believe will be effective in preventing current strains of covid 19 this year, but behind the scenes, theyve been working on a combination shot to make everyones lives a little bit easier. Come flu season. The combo shot is for both flu and covid with both vaccines given as one dose. This has been in the works for a while now as moderna executives say, the idea of two shots has been less appealing, less convenient, and more expensive than just one. If studies continue to go well, moderna ceo Stephen Hodge says they could have a combo shot ready by 2025. The ability to combine different vaccines in a single injection is something that we think messenger rna is uniquely capable of doing because it really is the same platform. Were already developing a flu covid combination vaccine has been through phase two studies, and were looking forward to carrying it forward into phase three and launching it soon. We do think that will help people more conveniently protect themselves against all of these circulating respiratory viruses. Moderna added that they plan to regularly update combinations with improved next generation vaccine candidates as appropriate. Very typical for this time of the year. Heres future weather. Our marine layer still pretty intact over the city, even through 11 a. M. But by the afternoon, well see sunshine across much of the city and areas away from the coast. But the coastline does remain pretty socked in with fog as we go about the day today.
