Good evening. And we begin tonight with the horror playing out inside an Elementary School in South Carolina. A teenager walking into the school with a gun. Authorities believe he had just shot his father dead at home. Then, going to the school playground, opening fire at townville elementary. Teachers trying to help. And then, the anguish outside. Parents rushing to the scene after being alerted there had been a shooting at the school. Abcs Steve Osunsami is on the scene tonight. Move that patient towards the helicopter. Reporter cell phones in the pockets of frightened parents across this small town started burning up at 1 45 p. M. , just before the end of classes for the day at townville elementary. We did have a report of a third patient. Reporter police say a local teenager armed with a handgun appeared at a playground behind the school and started shooting at teachers and children. I think there were some students out on the recess area, and the shooting may have occurred there and the teacher got the students in the classroom. Reporter a young boy was shot in the leg. Another boy in the foot. A teacher, trying to keep the kids safe, was shot in the shoulder. One of the children had to be flown to a hospital in greenville, South Carolina. Police got here fast. In seven minutes, they had the teen in custody. Snipers went to roof to clear the building, while this all too familiar scene of moving children by school bus to a nearby church played out. Everybody stay in the line, please. Reporter parents couldnt get to their children fast enough. Its not a phone call you ever want to get. My mind started running and then i got here as fast as i could. Reporter about two miles from the school, another crime scene. Police say its the father of the shooter, 46yearold jeffrey osborne, and hes been shot dead. Police say the son was homeschooled, and theyre not sure yet why he targeted the Elementary School. School is cancelled for the rest of the week. Police tell us that no one who was hurt at the school, those two students, nor the teachers, suffered any injuries that were lifethreatening. They will be okay tonight. The governor of South Carolina is on her way here. Authorities tell us that investigators will be here at the school through the night. David . Steve osunsami on the scene there in South Carolina for us. Steve, thank you. We turn now to a Deadly Police shooting in san diego. The aftermath streamed live on facebook. And police releasing this image from cell phone video. It shows the man taking what they call a, quote, shooting stance, appearing to aim. The mans sister says she told police he did not have a gun. Abcs matt gutman is in california. The ambulance is just now arriving. Reporter these are the raw images moments after police shot Alfred Olongo in this san diego suburb. A bystander broadcasting this video on facebook live. You killed my brother in front of me. Reporter you can hear the wails of his sister. I called these people three times to come and help him. Reporter a representative of the family telling us, she called the police for help with her brother, who was acting erratically at a strip mall, making sure to tell them he was not armed and suffering from an emotional breakdown. Still noncompliant. Still wont get his hand out of his pocket. Walking all over the parking lot. Reporter police say they fired because ologo assumed a shooting stance, appearing to point a weapon at one of the two officers. Releasing that single image of the incident. It was a twohand hold, shoulder level, like you would be firing a handgun. Reporter but police acknowledging tonight, there was no weapon. Protesters gathering almost immediately at the scene. Lets go. Reporter and again today. Wheres the real criminals . Reporter anger here still sharp tonight. Now, the nations eyes are watching, quote, unquote, americas finest city. It aint looking so fine right now. Reporter police have released a single freeze frame of that video, which they say proves that one of their officers was threatened. But locals here are saying, they want to see the entirety of that video, and until they do, there is the threat of continued unrest here. David . Matt gutman, thank you. Now, to breaking developments tonight in the investigation into the bombs here in new york city and new jersey. The fbi saying they know the two mystery men now. Releasing this new surveillance image of them just today at the site of a bomb that did not detonate. They took the Pressure Cooker out of the bag and then walked off with the bag. The police have been asking the men to come forward for a week now. But they now say those men have left the country, and they know where they went. Heres abcs chief investigative correspondent brian ross. Reporter fbi agents tonight say they used Hotel Registration cards to identify these two men, employees of an egyptian airline, visiting new york from cairo. But authorities still have not solved the weeklong mystery of what they were up to when they apparently stumbled upon the piece of luggage with a Pressure Cooker bomb, walking off with the bag and leaving the bomb behind. They are witnesses. There are no criminal charges. Theyre not in any jeopardy of being arrested. Reporter but now authorities are arranging to question them to determine if they are tied to the bomb attacks in any way, or just sidewalk scavengers. Mohammad rahami, the father of the accused bomber, tells abc news he has no idea who they are. Ive never seen them in my life. Reporter the father also says hes convinced his 28yearold son ahmad acted alone, changing the locks on his bedroom door in the months before. Nobody can go in there . Nobody can go in. One time, my grandson, he went to his room, and hes screaming and kick him out back. Hes little, 4 years old. Reporter what do you think . Id say, he did something wrong. Reporter the father also told abc news that one of the fbi agents present when his son was captured last week, the man in the redchecked shirt, is the same agent who, two years earlier, had investigated his son as a possible terrorist, and concluded, without interviewing ahmad in person, that he was no terror threat. All right, so, brian ross back with us here tonight. And brian, if the fbi believes these two men are in egypt, how quickly can the fbi get to them . Reporter it may take awhile. They need permission from the egyptian authorities, and that could be tricky, david. All right, brian ross tonight. Youll stay on this. Thank you. Reporter those polls, unscientific, and behind the scenes in trump tower tonight, Senior Campaign sources acknowledge trump should have been better prepared. That they should have held mock debates. That they should have been ready for questions about women and about his discredited effort to prove president obama was born outside the u. S. I think i did a great job. Well, just listen to what you heard. Reporter trump, one source said, believed the birther issue was, quote, well within the past. The aides say they were also shocked trump never went after clinton on issues like benghazi. Trump himself says he didnt go hard enough after clinton. And i was also holding back, i didnt want to do anything to embarrass her. Reporter but he wasnt talking about benghazi there. Trump alluding to the fact he didnt bring up bill clintons affairs on that debate stage. And i didnt want to do it with chelsea, who i think is a very wonderful young lady. Reporter eric trump says his father deserves credit. He really took the high ground, where he had the opportunity to go very, very low. I think that took a lot of courage. Reporter but trump hasnt ruled out going there next time. Even though in the past, trump has said that bill clinton was a victim himself. Tonight, at least trump keeping the focus on Hillary Clinton. Hitting her hard on her health. You see all the days off that hillary takes . Day off, day off, day off. All those day offs and then she cant even make it to her car. Isnt it tough . Heres abcs cecilia vega. Hey reporter she is Hillary Clintons secret weapon. Hillary is tough. Reporter and today, first Lady Michelle obama fired a shot directly at donald trump, going after him for questioning where her husband was born. Hurtful, deceitful questions, deliberately designed to undermine his presidency. Questions that cannot be blamed on others or swept under the rug by an insincere sentence uttered at a press conference. Let me take a moment. Reporter now in a starring role on the campaign trail after her Convention Speech that brought down the house. Both obamas speaking directly to young voters at a time when more than half of them say they arent even certain they will vote in this election. If you dont vote, thats a vote for trump. And cecilia vega live in New Hampshire tonight. Cecilia, we know from the past that first Lady Michelle obama does not love campaigning, but shes out there for clinton, with her own soaring approval ratings. Reporter sky high approval ratings, david. Especially with young people. But the clinton team thinks she can also help them win undecided voters. The white house says it could now put americans abroad and the u. S. Government at risk of lawsuits, too. Its a dangerous precedent and its an example of why sometimes you have to do whats hard.
