Even hardy new englanders have had enough. I dont want any more of this. Thats where im at right now, honestly. Reporter and tonight, Mother Nature messing up baseballs opening day. Home openers in cleveland and new york, postponed. Rob is live with us tonight. Looks like winter right behind you there, rob. And you say its all about the cold coming in and staying . Reporter david, the snow here that falls will stick around, because the air is going to be brutally cold. A slushy commute here on the mass pike. Look at the radar. Were looking at the western edge of this snow, heading to the east. And look for things to wrap up over the next couple of hours. But the damage done. The cold front behind this sending temperatures plummeting, even in d. C. , down to 31. Local Authorities Say five people are believed to be dead in that crash. Well stay on that tonight. We turn next this evening to the deadly amtrak crash near philadelphia. Investigators talking just a short time ago, but much of this remains a mystery tonight. The train was headed from new york to georgia when it slammed into a backhoe on the tracks. Two workers on those tracks were killed. And this evening, images from inside the train now. Passengers thrown into the aisles. Tonight, Abcs David Kerley with the key questions. Why was the backhoe there . And why didnt the trains new braking system help prevent the collision . Train 89 just hit a backhoe reporter tonight, we know it was a tragic and deadly mistake that put those two amtrak workers and their backhoe on the same rail line as a speeding amtrak train. But whose mistake is still a mystery. It was just before 8 00 in the morning and then there was, like, a big explosion, then, there was a fire, then the windows bursted out. Reporter the damage to the lead cars, as these photos show, is striking and significant. And so were injuries to about 30 passengers. This doctor jumped into action, finding one woman who was bleeding profusely. She was trembling and shaking. She could not speak. Reporter investigators have the event recorder and the video from the train. The video shows there was Construction Equipment on the track and work train equipment on the track immediately adjacent to the amtrak trains track. Reporter investigators say the train was traveling at 106 miles an hour, under the 110mileanhour speed limit. Five seconds before impact, the amtrak engineer applies the energy brakes, but could not stop before hitting the backhoe. Amtrak has installed what is called positive train control here on the northeast corridor, but its a system that detects only a violation of the speed limit. Not obstructions on the track. David . David kerley with us tonight. Thanks, david. And overseas tonight, from indonesia. Two planes colliding at the airport in jakarta. A boeing 737, it had been cleared for takeoff, but then colliding with a smaller plane being towed. The collision setting off a spark that turned into a giant fireball. Asked about a National Enquirer report citing rumors of marital infidelity. You have committed adultery in your marriage . I have not. That attack was complete and utter garbage. It was complete lies. Not going to be any emails or texts or videos surfacing . Its completely madeup nonsense. Its simply not true. I have always been faithful to my wife. I love my wife. Reporter afterward, i spoke with cruz, who has been campaigning with his wife, heidi, and their two daughters. Does it bother you, where the tone of this campaign has gone, with your girls and your wife here . Were not paying attention to it. But i also say, if im president , thats not going to happen. And tom llamas with us live from wisconsin. Tom, donald trump saying hes going to win tomorrow. But what are you hearing from his aides tonight . Reporter well, david, some inside the Trump Campaign are telling us that they think ted cruz will win here tomorrow. If that happens, its going to be incredibly hard for trump to win the nomination outright, by collecting enough delegates. That would lead to a contested convention, and what could be an epic battle on the convention floor. David . Tom llamas with us from wisconsin tonight. Tom, thanks, as as. And to the democratic side tonight. Bernie sanders vowing that if he wins wisconsin and then here in new york state, where Hillary Clinton was senator, of course, then hell land the nomination. Reporter behind in the polls in the badger state, Hillary Clinton hunkered down in her home state. On gma, George Stephanopoulos asking her if new york is a mustwin. Dont you have to win your home state here in new york in two weeks . Well, im going to do everything i can to win in as many places as possible. Im absolutely confident i will be the nominee. Now, im going to do everything i can to win new york, i represented new york for eight years. I care deeply about this state. Im proud of the work that i did with so many thousands of new yorkers. So, of course im going to work incredibly hard. Reporter despite a string of defeats, clinton inching ever closer to that nomination. Even if sanders wins wisconsin, for him to become the nominee, he would still need to win nearly threequarters of the remaining delegates and pull off some major upsets. Lets win tomorrow. Thank you. Reporter and he says that could happen. And david, we just got a copy of a memo that Hillary Clintons Campaign Manager is about to send to supporters tonight. In it, he says, quote, Hillary Clinton has built a nearly insurmountable lead among both delegates and actual voters. They are clearly trying to reassure supporters ahead of what they are privately bracing for a loss tomorrow. David . Cecilia vega in upstate new york for us tonight. Cecilia, thank you.
