Tonight, the memorials in this college town are growing. Students bringing candles, flowers, pictures to the places where their classmates lost their lives. As were learning more about the victims and the deadly attack. The first images of the terrifying moments in this college town, with a gunman on a rampage. Students seen ducking for cover in this Surveillance Video from the ib deli mart as bullets ripped through the stores windows. He fires two shots in, it stopped for about two seconds before they just started raining through. Reporter some of those shots killing 20yearold Chris Michael martinez. Investigators say the deli was one of ten places friday night right next to the Ucsanta Barbara campus, where 22yearold Elliot Rodger hurt or killed people during his mad drive around town, hitting students like nick, who tonight, is still recovering. Shots fired shots fired reporter the first calls for help, just before 9 30 p. M. But we now know it may have been many hours before that, when police say rodger killed three men inside his own apartment. All stabbed repeatedly. Investigators say rodger then drove to a sorority house, opening fire on young women in the area, killing two members of another sorority. Rodgers next stop, that deli. I honestly thought that was my last moment. I thought i was going to die. Reporter survivors say the suspect was smiling as he shot at them. Deputies chasing after him and his black bmw. They exchanged gunfire with him twice. The rampage ended with a crash. It would appear as if he took his own line. Reporter found in rodgers car, three semiautomatic handguns. Nobody needs to own three semiautomatic handguns. Reporter the family of chris martinez, speaking exclusively with abc news today, sharing the photos and memorabilia from the life of their only child. They expressed sympathy for the families of all the victims, including, they say, the parents of Elliot Rodger. Would it be hard for you to meet with the rodgers . No, actually. They loved their son, too. Reporter tonight, of the 13 people injured, six are still in the hospital. Two of them in serious condition. David . All right, bazi kanani leading us off from california. Thank you. And of course, even after the shootings through the streets were done, police would still discover more. Those three bodies found in the alleged shooters apartment. Tonight, you can see this small memorial for the three men that police say Elliot Rodger killed inside his apartment complex here. But like so many things about this case, the victims were discovered only after this violent rampage ended. Tonight, so many clues in hindsight puzzle pieces put together too late. Elliot rodger here. Reporter Elliot Rodger left disturbing hints, starting with those chilling youtube videos. Ill be a god. Exacting my retribution on all those who deserve it. Reporter and this 141page manifesto, detailing the troubled life of an alleged killer. From childhood bullying, sibiling rivalry, fantasies about killing his father and stepmother. And his most repeated grievance being rejected by women. Girls gave their affection and sex and love to other men, but never to me. Im 22 years old and im still a virgin. He was really, really upset about, why is the world so unfair to him . And, oh, im a goodlooking guy and why are girls falling for those ugly fat guys . Thats what he mentioned. And i told him, appearance is not everything. Reporter rodgers family says their son was already being treated by multiple therapists. Nobody would do the types of things that happened last night unless there was some form of mental illness. Reporter but because rodger was never institutionalized for mental illness, it was legal for him to buy those three handguns along with hundreds of bullets. And his actions in the videos were so troubling, his parents alerted police. They went to his apartment less than a month before fridays attack. The deputies contacted the suspect, at the time, found him to be polite and courteous. He downplayed the concerns for his welfare and the deputies cleared the call. Reporter its not clear if police could have done anything more. At an alarming rate, Law Enforcement are being asked to be law enforcers and psychiatric social workers. Reporter but rodger himself offered one clue, writing if they had demanded to search my room, that would have ended everything. A lot of people seem to have some insight into rodgers life, family, friends, therapists and police. But only one person, Elliot Rodger himself, seemed to have the whole picture. David .
