good evening and it's great to have you with us. here on a saturday night. we do begin tonight with two separate air scares. two separate flights, packed with passengers and crew, suddenly fearing that there were bombs on board. the cases unrelated, both frightening. this egypt-bound flight bound for new york city, suddenly military jets scrambled, escorting the flight as it was diverted to scotland after someone found a note in the bathroom saying a bomb onboard. it had a seat number. the other flight on frontier airlines, a passenger told a flight attendant there's a bomb in his backpack. the flight crew piling seat cushions on top of the bag, doing anything to protect passengers. we have both flights covered tonight, beginning with one still unfolding at this hour the one heading for new york city. investigators still on the scene tonight, and abc's nick schifrin is in london. >> reporter: flight 985 had been in the air for four hours when a passenger found a horrifying, handwritten threat. >> i found this note by the sink. it said, in english, i'll set this plane on fire. >> reporter: she told the crew the pilot head to the closest airport. they escorted the plane to glasgow. the whole time, she had to sit in her seat, not knowing the fate of herself and her 1-year-old daughter. >> very nervous. i'm traveling by myself with my daughter. i'm obviously concerned about our safety. i told one of the stewardess i don't know if this is a prank or what, and they said this isn't a prank. >> reporter: the crew tried to keep passengers calm, it didn't work. >> everyone's obviously very concerned. there's babies onboard. everybody's getting frustrated. >> reporter: whoever wrote the note left a possible clue, a seat number, 46d. police are questioning all passengers and crew, checking passports, trying to discover who threatened the plane. >> if somebody wants to be stupid enough to put themselves into a criminal position, and threaten an airplane, we have to respond. >> reporter: tonight, the passengers still don't know whether the threat was real. scottish police are treating this as a criminal not a terrorist incident. but for everyone onboard it was tense, and as she said, very, very scary. >> abc's nick schifrin leading us out. now to the other airline scare, this one in denver that frontier airline, forced to lane on the tarmac, after a passenger said that there was a bomb in his bag. abc's gio benitez on the brave flight crew jumping into action. >> reporter: last night's air scare started on a 6:30 p.m. flight from knoxville to denver. a frontier airlines plane, with 136 passengers onboard, was making its descent into denver when passengers say a man tells a flight attendant, he has a bomb in his carry-on bag. >> you could see all of the worried looks as soon as he said it. >> reporter: flight attendants took that bag from the man and brought it to the back of the plane, covering it with seat cushions. children onboard were moved to the front of the plane. passengers kept an eye on the man and tried to stay calm. >> from that point on, you know, we were just extremely scared and worried. >> reporter: the tension lasting about a half-hour until that plane was safely on the ground with fbi agents and the denver bomb squad already waiting on the tarmac. >> before you know it, authorities boarded the plane. removed him first. he left the plane in handcuffs. >> reporter: and law enforcements haven't identified the suspect, but say he's in custody. and he's believed to quote, mentally unstable. sources falling in just five hours today. and look at that hail, spiky and bigger than the computer mouse. north of des moines, iowa, streets overflowing with flood waters, and south of san antonio, texas, creeks and ponds went surging through the streets this weekend. and look at those officers. they're searching for those who are trapped. all of this almost after 17 inches of rain fell in just 36 hours, that's almost as much as the city gets in an entire year. >> and ginger is with us now. you were telling me this afternoon this is just incredible when you look at the totals. >> it is and it's not over. here's how much is going to fall, this is for tonight and throughout the next 48 hours, it's really southwest missouri that i'm concerned with, from kansas city to the south, to southeastern missouri and southern illinois, 2 to 3 inches, some places ending up with more than a foot. and look at this, david, we've got severe weather along with it. so it's just not only heavy rains, chicago intimidation, censorship, the iranian people overcame those obstacles and showed they wanted to take control of their future. >> jon, this new iranian president is an ahmadinejad rival. so, is there any hope that there will be a more conciliatory approach to the relationship between the u.s. and iran? >> some hope, david. it's important to point out, all of the candidates in this election, including mr. rowhani, ran on platforms that were supportive, in favor of that nuclear program, and no matter how moderate the iranian president is, the real power lies with those unelected clerics. the most important person in iran remains the anti-american pro-nuclear program. >> jon in for george first thing in the morning on "this week." we'll be watching. and in syria tonight, abc news square, there appears to be a growing number of supporters of mr. snowden. in fact, some here even asked the u.s. government to apologize. >> he's not a hero or a traitor. he's just trying to do the right thing. >> reporter: tonight, the father of his girlfriend, lindsay mills, told abc news that snowden had very strong political beliefs and appeared frustrated over the way average americans heard of trayvon martin. >> so, certainly you have never been on one of those websites? >> no, no. >> or posted a comment or participated in one of those discussions? >> correct. >> reporter: a note to the judge. >> i don't need an explanation of what's posted. i just need to know, if that in fact is your posting? >> yeah. >> reporter: he was apparently an activist posting online rants against zimmerman. but the haggling over the jurors is set to continue this week. and there may be something else driving stealth jurors, excitement. >> this is a very high-profile trial, who wouldn't want to sit on it? you know, so we've got people who would love to be that juror, to be right in the middle of all that limelight. >> how do you sniff out a stealth juror? experts tell us, if a potential
