Whoa reporter then, on to wisconsin, now being ravaged by the virus, with the fourth highest rate in the country for new cases. Our Jordyn Phelps pressing the president. Mr. President , do you think it is at all dangerous to be holding these big rallies while the numbers are going up here in the midwest . No, i dont at all. No. And theyre outdoor rallies. Theyre all outdoors. Anything else . Reporter as the country hits a dire new record, more than 92,000 new cases in a single day. Hospitalizations and deaths also going up. But the president is now blaming doctors and hospitals, implying theyre inflating the numbers. You know, our doctors get more money if somebody dies from covid. You know that, right . I mean, our doctors are very smart people. Reporter but once again the president s own experts say thats just not true. This is his point person on testing. We are seeing real cases increase. As a fellow physician, you know hospitalizations and icu admissions dont lie. When those go up, thats real. Reporter but the trump team is ignoring reality. The president s son with this blatant falsehood. Why arent they talking about deaths . Oh, because the number is almost nothing. Thats more than all of the votes cast there in 2016. But today, Kamala Harris was there trying to get out the vote and flip the red state blue. Today is the last day of early voting in texas and you all have been doing your thing. Now, we know this is no time to let up on the pedal though, right . Hillary clinton won a county by 12 points four years ago, and the turnout is shattering records. Democrats know flipping texas will be an uphill battle, but these numbers are giving them hope it may be competitive. Mary, thank you. Of course, the question, when will we know the results of the election . President trump has insisted on knowing the results on election night. But the reality check tonight. Eight states including key battlegrounds wont even begin opening mailin ballots until election day. Jonathan karl on that part of the story tonight. Reporter President Trump keeps insisting we must know the results of the president ial election by election night. Today he tweeted, the election should end on november 3rd. We could know who won by late tuesday night, but it could also take several days before a winner is declared. To manage expectations, three former governors of minnesota, a democrat, a republican, and an independent, have joined together to urge people to be patient. With so many of us voting by mail, it may take a little longer to verify a winner. And thats okay. Its by design. A delay just means our system is working, and that were counting every single ballot. Reporter the key factor here is the massive increase in mailin and absentee voting due to the covid19 pandemic. Those mailed ballots take time to process. Local officials must compare names to voter rolls to make sure everyone is eligible to vote and not voting twice. And in some states votes are counted even if they come in days after the election, as long as they are postmarked by election day. And eight states dont even start looking at the mailin ballots until election day. Pennsylvania, for one, is going to take a long time. More than 2 million ballots in the state have been returned, and they wont even start processing them until election day. I feel confident that the overwhelming majority will be counted by friday, if not before. Reporter but that doesnt mean we wont know who won the presidency earlier than that. It depends on how close the race is. In several key states, States Donald trump must win, the counting is expected to happen quickly. Florida, georgia, and arizona, for example, are among the states where most or nearly all of the votes are expected to be in by election night. In florida, they have been processing ballots for over a month. And with more than half of registered floridians voting early, we could have a very good idea of who won the state shortly after the polls close. Lets get right to jonathan karl. I want to get back to the map of states, and the counting process that Officials Say will take time, even days. Heres the map, you see wisconsin, pennsylvania, right there on the map. As you said, we could know some other key states, thougstates, t including florida, they could tell us a lot about where the president ial election is going. Reporter so, david, on election night, i would watch four states early. Florida, georgia, texas, and north carolina. If donald trump wins all four, and those are all states he won four years ago, were in for a very long process waiting for states like pennsylvania and michigan and wisconsin. But if donald trump loses any of them, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for him to win the presidency again. As you heajon, well be righ watching it, too. Thank you, jon. In an exclusive interview with abc news and the louisville courier journal, mattingly says that walker shares the blame for his girlfriends death even though it was police who killed her.
