Flames forcing thousands of people from their homes, an army of firefighters trying to save them. The images from the front lines, so stark. Take a look. Fire hoses seeming so small against the flames. Thick smoke making it impossible to see through. And the smoke clouding the skies, visible for miles. And take a look at this map, 17 fires burning in five states. One of the fires extremely dangerous and growing at this hour. And this is where aditi roy is tonight. Reporter the flames ripped through the steep terrain of northern californias Eldorado National forest. The blaze now 82,000 acres and growing over the week, forcing 3,000 to leave their homes. People are worried. The highest priority in the area is to continually assess when residents to come back in here. Reporter outmuscling 10,000 firefighters. The blaze 10 contained. Right now, the biggest challenge we have is the terrain that fire is burning in the area. The fact that the fire is so far away from a lot of super populated areas. Reporter you can see the plumes of smoke in space. Tankers dropping more fire retardant than any other fire in history. A record setting 450,000 gallons of red slurry, water and fertilizer and red dye, leaving homes shrouded in pink dust. Hand crews came and dug this line. To prevent it from spreading. I tonight two dozen people have been forced from their homes after an Apartment Fire in alameda. Started this afternoon at santa clara avenue a chestnut street. Sher joe quintana has the latest. Firefighters are just doing their final inspections for the fire. I want to show you some of the debris that was tossed out of one of these units as those firefighters were involved in their firefight. Residents have still not been allowed to go inside the building because the power has not been turned back on. This is what the fire looked like at its worst point. This video was shot bay witness who was driving by. According to the fire department, all residents got out okay. There will no injuries. And no firefighters were injure, either. The damage was contained to a single apartment unit, but that fire moved fast and witnesses say it got pretty scary. Black smoke started coming out of the sliding glass door. And then i called 911. And the windows popped out and then the flames started coming owl while i was on the 911 call. We saw the people in the stairwell, and we saw hi to them. Dont know them that well.
