car. those potentially lethal explosive air bags, the recall nearly doubling to 34 million cars. >> but up until now, takata has refused to acknowledge that their air bags are defective. that changes today. >> the inflater casing can shatter sometimes sending shrapnel through the bag and into drivers and passengers. at least five americans have died. >> when i seen the blood, i thought i was going to die. >> cory is one of the many injured by his air bag. could it have been more? takata has been testing those inflaters. we are learning nearly one out of every 100 tested ruptured. the japanese maker takata. >> can you tell us why you're not expanding the recall? >> had resisted a broader recall. >> i'll ask you to step off the property. >> okay, no problem. >> but the takata ceo says we are pleased to have reached this agreement. 11 different carmakers that sell in the u.s. are now part of this recall and what about the replacements that have been going into recalled cars? federal regulators would only say they are safer. >> the concern is are they safe over the long-term. that has yet to be determined. >> consumers should go to safercar.gov and type in their vehicle identification number to find out if their air bag is part of this expanded recall. this is one of the most complex recalls the government says it has ever conducted. and says it could take a couple of years to replace all questionable air bags which means some americans may be driving the highways with a potentially dangerous air bag in their car. david kerley, abc news, washington. >> some dangerous weather again moved through the middle of the country packing heavy rain, hail and tornadoes. at least eight twisters touched down across parts of texas and oklahoma leaving miles of destruction including here in mineral wells, texas. in two towns west of fort worth. at least one person injured near austin. elsewhere in texas, torrential rains triggered disastrous flooding. city of san angelo got as much as six inches over a period of just 24 hours. crews were dispatched across the city to rescue as many as 20 drivers stranded in their sinking cars. we turn to the rockies country leading to the biggest auto recall ever. >> we don't get to say that a whole lot, the biggest anything ever. this is the case. air bags designed to save lives capable of blowing up like a bomb blamed for at least five deaths, more than 100 injuries. after much resistance, the manufacturer has now finally agreed to recall twice as many cars as before. david kerley on the story for us. >> one, fire. >> some have called them an ied in your car. those potentially lethal explosive air bags, the recall nearly doubling to 34 million cars. >> but up until now, takata has refused to acknowledge that their air bags are defective. that changes today. >> the inflater casing can shatter sometimes sending shrapnel through the bag and into drivers and passengers. at least five americans have died. >> when i seen the blood, i thought i was going to die. >> cory is one of the many injured by his air bag. could it have been more? takata has been testing those inflaters. we are learning nearly one out of every 100 tested ruptured. the japanese maker takata. >> can you tell us why you're not expanding the recall? >> had resisted a broader recall. >> i'll ask you to step off the property. >> okay, no problem. >> but the takata ceo says we are pleased to have reached this agreement. 11 different carmakers that sell in the u.s. are now part of this recall and what about the replacements that have been going into recalled cars? federal regulators would only say they are safer. >> the concern is are they safe over the long-term. that has yet to be determined. >> consumers should go to safercar.gov and type in their vehicle identification number to find out if their air bag is part of this expanded recall. this is one of the most complex recalls the government says it has ever conducted. and says it could take a couple of years to replace all questionable air bags which means some americans may be driving the highways with a potentially dangerous air bag in their car. david kerley, abc news, washington. >> some dangerous weather again moved through the middle of the country packing heavy rain, hail and tornadoes. at least eight twisters touched down across parts of texas and oklahoma leaving miles of destruction including here in mineral wells, texas. in two towns west of fort worth. at least one person injured near austin. elsewhere in texas, torrential rains triggered disastrous flooding. city of san angelo got as much as six inches over a period of just 24 hours. crews were dispatched across the city to rescue as many as 20 drivers stranded in their sinking cars. we turn to the rockies now. just a month away from summer, and look at this. storms brought as much as a couple inches of snow to higher elevations just ten miles west of denver. the melting snow now poses a threat of flooding. we've got today's forecast. we need to take a look at now. talking about more storms in western texas. >> more than snow. it was incredible thousands on board a massive cruise ship in bermuda after it got stuck. investigators say the norwegian dawn temporarily lost power as it was leaving port. to go back to boston. it hit the reef around dinnertime last night. passengers say it was obvious something serious had happened. >> everything started to shake. we have a lifeboat right outside our window. you can see the lifeboat shaking like crazy. finally, the boat came to a stop. >> came to a stop. the ship floated free of the reef just a few hours ago. that was during high tide. it's now anchored just off shore. it will be inspected in
