vegas which left two police officers among the dead. >> authorities are trying to figure out the shooters and their motivation since they both died. here's abc's mara schiavocampo. >> reporter: the shooting spree began just before noon. >> it is a tragic day. a very, very difficult day. >> reporter: a man and woman walk in to cici's pizza in las vegas and open fire. patrons duck for cover. the shooters aimed at two police officers having lunch, killing them both. 42-year-old officer alyn beck and igor soldo. who was 32 years old. >> the suspects took the officers' weapons and some ammunition from them on the way out the door and made a statement, something to the effect of this is a revolution. >> reporter: the male shooter repeated those words as they left the pizzeria. >> i saw their gun in their hands and he told me to tell the cops it was a revolution. >> reporter: the duo fled across the street to a wal-mart killing a person inside. dozens of police descended on the store. some entered the front of the store and found the body inside the door. other officers went in through the back where they came in contact with the suspects and exchanged gunfire. >> a short time later, more preliminary appears the female suspect shot the male suspect and then took her own life. >> reporter: the names of the wal-mart victim and the suspects have not been released pending notification of next of kin. authorities do not know what precipitated the shooting spree. an investigation is underway. mara schiavocampo, abc news, new york. >> horrible story. >> really is. they believe that they do know one of the officers did fire back. but they don't know much else if in fact he did hit one of the suspects or not. >> officer beck, by the way, had been with the department since 2001. he leaves behind a wife and three children. soldo has been with the force since 2006 and survived by a wife and baby. just senseless. >> really is. another story we are following a deadly terror attack on pakistan's busiest airport. gunmen disguised as police guards attacking the terminal at the airport in karachi with machine guns and rocket launcher. the battle lasted over five hours and left at least 13 people dead. most of them are security personnel. all air traffic was stopped. we will have more from pakistan in our next half hour. pope francis is apparently hoping to succeed where others have failed when it comes to middle east peace. weeks after the latest round of u.s.-sponsored negotiations collapsed francis welcomed both sides for a prayer summit at his home yesterday. israeli president peres and palestinian president abbas were even spotted joking and embracing. francis presided over an invocation of muslim and jewish prayers. new details from bowe bergdahl about his time in taliban captivity. u.s. official says bergdahl is telling those treating him at an american medical facility in germany he was tortured, beaten and held in a cage after he tried to escape. here at home, he's not getting much sympathy. here's abc's martha raddatz. it was after he tried to flee his taliban captors, he was put in a metal cage in the dark for weeks at a time. bergdahl has told staff helping his recovery, according to a senior u.s. official. an official says it is no surprise that the taliban would beat and abuse the soldier. the "new york times" is reporting he has asked not to be called sergeant. saying he didn't earn it. he was a private when he disappeared but he was promoted on schedule, which always happens when a soldier is taken captive. while he is recovering physically, walking, talking, his mental health remains an issue. a senior official says the 28-year-old soldier is still not prepared for a reunion with his family and he has no idea the firestorm his release created. just over a week ago, bowe bergdahl's parents were celebrating his freedom. they are facing threats against their lives. the threats so serious the fbi has been called in. one saying, i'd be ashamed to say he's from your town. needs to be shot and his dad right along with him. taliban lovers. it's a backlash, fueled in part by the results of an army investigation done at the time of bergdahl's disappearance. it backs up what his fellow soldiers have already said that bergdahl walked away from his base willingly. >> he was not forcefully taken off the base. he left on his own accord. >> reporter: the obama administration fiercely defended the deal that freed bergdahl, but another investigation is being launched. when bergdahl finally does come home, he will not go directly to his hometown of hailey, idaho. he will go to brooke army medical center in texas to continue his recovery. martha raddatz, abc news, washington. actor tracy morgan doing better but still in the hospital for the next few weeks at least. recovering from a deadly accident. the spokesman said that he broke his femur, nose and several ribs in the saturday morning crash which killed his riding partner. their limo van was rear ended on the new jersey turnpike by a wal-mart tractor-trailer. the van's driver talked to abc news. >> it felt like an explosion. i just remember the impact and the vehicle going by, seeing a little bit of the wal-mart truck going by. we didn't know which way was up, which way was down. >> the truck driver has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. wal-mart says it will take full responsibility. the authorities determine their truck caused the accident. we will learn more about the sex abuse scandal involving jerry sandusky with the release of a new report from the pennsylvania attorney general's office. the report should shed light on why it took nearly three years to bring charges against the former penn state assistant football coach. pennsylvania's republican governor tom corbett was his state's attorney general when the sandusky investigation began. his successor, a democrat, has suggested that corbett had political motives to slow down the investigation. more than $60,000 in donations have poured in after a shooting rampage at seattle pacific university where one student was left dead and two injured. some of the money will pay funeral and medical expenses for the victims, but most of it will go to john meis, who tackled the gunman. he was the 22-year-old student. they bought every item on his wedding registry and paid for the upcoming honeymoon. the suspect is held without bail. business headlines. stocks are opening at a record high. the dow closed up 88 points on friday setting the seventh record high of the year. closing in on 17,000. the s&p 500 closed at the 17th record high of the year. another milestone reached in the tech world. sony has overtaken nintendo for the first time in eight years, selling 2 million more systems over the last year. the playstation 4 has emerged as the leader of the new generation console pushing ahead of the nintendo wii. now to sports starting with game two of the nba finals lebron was back to his dominating best last night in san antonio. silencing critics of his heat-related exit from game one. he had 35 points leading the heat to a 98-96 victory that. ties the finals at one game apiece. the series moves to miami for game three tomorrow night here on abc. and the numbers are simply incredible when it comes to rafael nadal's french open victory against novak djokovic. that's a hard name. djokovic. there we go. it was the ninth time nadal won the tournament in paris. in his straight french open title, he has won 66 of the last 67 matches at the tournament. it was also his 14th grand slam title tying him for second most all time. california chrome back in the golden state this morning nursing an injury that he picked up at the belmont stakes on saturday. he injured his leg after bumping another horse. this happened as the horses left the starting gate. then his owners triple crown dreams were crushed when california chrome finished tied for fourth. that led to complaints from one of them who said the horses should be forced to run all three legs of the triple crown and not sit out mono-mono twins they are called. they shared the amniotic sac and in constant contact in the womb. their mother on bedrest for weeks in ohio. the twins constantly monitored. the doctors knew they could easily become entangled in each other's umbilical cords but they were born healthy at 33 weeks and just before they lifted to be shown to their mother the little ones reached for each other's hands. >> what was going through my mind? i couldn't think. i started tearing up immediately. it was beautiful. >> reporter: after seeing that image, so many leaving messages on facebook. william writing, one placenta, very rare, mono-mono and in this case mano mano. another now that gives me goose bumps. another, i hope they will always hold hands throughout their lives. >> 118,000 likes just on our facebook page alone. this went all over the world. >> one of my high school friends lives in australia. she sent me a message and told me she saw me on her tell vision in australia. >> reporter: the week before father's day, they sent us this. look at the smiles as they walk out of akron's children's hospital, both in their car seats, their headbands in different colors to tell them apart. jillian on the left, jenna on the right. mom peering in on their first trip home and for weeks mom and dad have been driving an hour and a half back and forth every day to be with them. >> i'm look at this. four females north of alaska's bay. this is what the video looks like. they strapped it on to the females. we want to look at the loss of sea ice from climate change and what they saw were bears eating the icy ocean waters, trying to eat frozen fields and interacting with males. they hope by releasing the information it may help scientists understand the bear's nutritional demands serious news. the shootings in las vegas that began with an ambush on two police officers who were on a lunch break. >> after taking their weapons, the suspects then killed one person in a wal-mart before carrying out a murder-suicide pact. police say there were hundreds of witnesses who saw the attack unfold. here's abc's bazi kanani. >> reporter: dozens of police officers surrounding a vegas wal-mart after two gunmen terrorize customers at a local shopping center. the investigators say the shooters walked in to a cici's pizzeria restaurant and killing two police officers. >> the suspect took the officers' weapons and some ammunition from them on the way out the door. >> i saw their guns in their hand. he told me to tell the cops it was a revolution and he killed two cops. >> the gunmen crossed the street and entered a wal-mart where more gun fire erupted killing one. police say the two shooters went to the back of the store and carried out a suicide pact. both gunmen are dead. >> it's a tragic day. it's a very, very difficult day. but we still have a community to police. we still have a community to protect. >> reporter: police are still investigating. the motive for the shootings is still unclear. bazi kanani, abc news, las -- los angeles. the other developing story we are following here is a terror attack on pakistan's busiest airport. at least 18 people have been killed in the assault on a terminal at the karachi airport. heavy gunfire and at least two large explosives could be heard coming from the terminal. as authorities scramble to secure the area, it took five hours to bring the situation under control. there are new details surrounding sergeant bowe bergdahl as he recovers at an american military hospital in germany. he is telling investigators he was tortured by his taliban captors, beaten and held in a cage in the dark after he tried to escape. sergeant bergdahl was unaware of the heated controversy by his release especially by his former army comrades after he was captured after deserting his base in afghanistan. >> i think the department of defense needs to do a thorough investigation. obviously those soldiers are very, very concerned and upset by it. if their account is true, they should be. you jeopardize other soldiers when you walk away from your post. >> we want people to realize he is not an american hero. he didn't serve with honor and dignity and respect and he is a deserter in a time of war. >> a week after celebrating his freedom, sergeant bergdahl's parents are facing death threats so serious the fbi has been called in. the truck driver charged in the fatal accident which also injured tracy morgan is due in court today. police say his big rig hit the back of morgan's limo setting off a deadly chain reaction. with more here's abc's gio benitez. >> reporter: tracy morgan's rep telling abc news the comedian is in critical condition but more responsive. he broke his leg, femur, nose and several ribs. this after getting a first look at the man police charge with causing the accident that left the "30 rock" star and three others in critical condition. morgan's long-time riding partner dying at the scene. police officers say 35-year-old kevin roper rammed this wal-mart truck in to morgan's limo bus and later turned himself in. the driver of the limo remembering the moments before the crash. >> i'd say we were five to six miles an hour, just steady coasting. >> reporter: the new jersey turnpike is known for other accidents like this. this stretch of i-95 is known as the black dragon. it is straight and fast and police say one of the most dangerous roads in the northeast. morgan and six others were on the way back to new york from a stand-up comedy show in delaware. we're told the truck swerved to avoid the limo bus carrying morgan, but instead hit it. morgan's limo lost control, spinning in two other cars and over turning. >> it felt like an explosion. i remember the impact and the vehicle going by, seeing a little bit of the wal-mart truck going by. we didn't know which way was up and which way was down. >> reporter: morgan's limo driver kicking the window to get out. >> i climbed around and heard tracy screaming for help and heard jeff screaming for help. >> roper has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. we're told morgan had surgery on his leg but he could be here at the hospital for several weeks. gio benitez, abc news, new brunswick, new jersey. >> i can't help but wonder about the seat belts, who was wearing seat belts. i was in a limo. my cousin got married this weekend. i heard about the tracy morgan story and i couldn't find seat belts in the big party bus limo. >> if i was in the back it wouldn't occur to me to belt up. >> no. you are having a great time. >> no one knows for sure and national transportation safety board is working with state police to investigate this a to z. >> the walmart president has said if walmart found the truck driver was responsible, that wal-mart will take full responsibility. >> we wish them all a speedy recovery, we hope. a day on a virginia river turns tragic as a boat capsized. it killed two people and injured three others. it happened near fishing pier in newport news. bystanders tossed ropes to the five people struggling to stay afloat in that rough surf. three police officers risked their lives to help. they jumped in without safety equipment. they managed to rescue three of the victims. severe storms including tornados raced across colorado's front range and the eastern plains yesterday. one tornado touched down near a junior golf tournament southeast of denver. another near the black stone country club in aurora, causing at least one injury and uprooting trees and downing power lines. abc's linzie janis has the latest. >> reporter: dodging disaster. in colorado, another four tornados. the twisters keep coming. nine of them in the state since friday. in aurora, colorado, a june hailstorm blanketing the ground with ice. more twisters in the south. debris sent spinning by a tornado near st. louis, missouri, as a plane flies dangerously close. in northwest alabama, lightning sparking fires. the texas panhandle drenched with fears of flash flooding. and residents near roswell, new mexico, call this their spaceship, a severe type of thunderstorm known as a supercell swirling in the sky producing baseball-size hail and winds strong enough to topple this tent at an outdoor festival. >> horrible, horrible end. >> authorities with the help of a waiting helicopter. >> abc's mara schiavocampo has the amazing story. >> reporter: a daring prison escape in quebec. three inmates with reported ties to the hell's angels biker gang are on the run after a dramatic helicopter rescue. they are considered dangerous. >> in canada and the state. so everybody is giving a hand to find them as quickly as possible. >> reporter: officials say saturday evening a green helicopter landed in the courtyard of a quebec detention center, quickly scooping up the prisoners before flying off and heading west. much like a scene from the classic movie "break out" starring charles bronson and robert duval. based on a real escape. it is not the first hollywood-style prison break. in 2013, arkansas inmate derrick estell left the big house through a small window, just one foot tall. several weeks later, two florida inmates walked out the front door after forging release paperwork. in all cases, the inmates were recaptured, making an escape but not a getaway. in this case, all three men were in jail awaiting trial. police say the key to finding the inmates is finding the helicopter. they are working with charges. >> sounds funny. one is facing murder charges. the other two are facing murder and conspiracy to commit murder. >> serious charges. this is the second time in 15 months that inmates have actor for best revival of a play, "a raisin in the sun" which stars denzel washington. for best actress in a musical, jessie mueller plays the title world in beautiful, "the carole king musical." j-lo
