Secretary of state john kerry will be in geneva today where he will meet with his russian counterparts. Theyll be searching for ways to destroy the chemical weapons and avert a u. S. Strike on syria. That mission could turn into a complex one quickly. Abcs chief global correspondent martha rad dick has the story. Reporter there are 1,000 tons of nerve gas, mustard gas, sarin which could easily wipe out part of the mid east. You could kill everyone in syria, most people in the region. Reporter to secure and destroy them, hundreds of u. N. Inspectors would have to be dispatched with syrian troops providing protection for the inspectors and the chemicals. All in the middle of a brutal civil war. This is the most daunting aspect of this challenge, and that probably requires negotiation of a no strike zone. Reporter the barrels are loaded into weapons like these, they would likely be consolidated at a few depots. Ideally a large destruction facility would be built inside syria or they could be moved somewhere like iraq. A destruction facility, essentially a giant sealed oven where the chemicals would be incinerated with temperatures over 2500 degrees. Reducing them to ash, water vapor and carbon dioxide. She was 52, more than 200 pounds. The attorney representing her family says its still not clear whher that safety bar locked or if the bar was improperly designed to hold in someone her size.
