>> exactly. no one really knows what is going on, when this could happen, they're saying it could be next week to mark what would be kim jong-un's grandfather's 101st birthday. no one knows. >> we shall see. now to a developing story in florida. two little boys kidnapped by their father taken to cuba, 4-year-old cole and 2-year-old chase taken from the grandparents' tampa home last week. they're back in the u.s. the grandparents had custody of the children because of their father's drug charges. police say the dad kidnapped the boys and took them by boat to 300 miles away, cuba's shores. police in detroit say a gunman shot up a medical office building grabbed a female employee, disappeared after setting the building on fire. witnesses say the gunman was a maintenance worker at the clinic and the woman was an ex-girlfriend. last night, fire crews recovered two bodies. they are believed to be the gunman and the ex-girlfriend. a student told police he fantasized for years about stabbing people to death is in custody this morning in texas. >> police in suburban houston say 20-year-old dylan quick stabbed at least 14 students many on the face and neck. abc's brandi hitt explains what happened. good morning, brandi. good morning, john and marci. this was chaos on campus. eyewitnesses say the student went from building to building slashing at students with an exacto knife. police received a call of an attack at a college just outside of houston. >> the call was described as "male on the loose stabbing people." >> reporter: at least 14 people were wounded in an apparent stabbing at the lone star college systems campus in cypress. >> just going to class, and i just walked in and i saw a girl bleeding on the stairwell. >> pretty scary. knowing it is pretty close to home. i was there, couple feet away from what actually happened. >> reporter: authorities say at least 12 people were taken to area hospitals. four by helicopter. and the suspect is in custody. abc's houston affiliate ktrk obtained this cell phone video from a student showing sheriff's deputies finally subduing the alleged attacker. >> a white male we believe approximately 21 years of age and currently enrolled at lone star college system. >> reporter: authorities believe he acted alone. college officials initially sent out an alert urging people to seek shelter and lockdown. >> buildings were -- monitored, once it was determined that they were safe, and secure, then a very orderly evacuation of the campus did commence. >> reporter: the college is closed as the investigation continues. students and faculty chased the suspect down before deputies arrived. authorities still have not determined a motive. john and marci. >> thank you, brandi. senate democrats scheduled the first vote on gun control for tomorrow. the announcement came just as family members of victims in the newtown school massacre made personal appeals to senators on capitol hill. tomorrow's vote would only clear the way for a full debate on gun legislation. meanwhile, a bipartisan deal on expanding federal background checks is expected to be announced today. it would require checks on purchases at gun shows, and online. lawmakers in southern california are moving to crack down on swatting. that is when a prankster reports a fake emergency usually at the home of a celebrity hoping the police s.w.a.t. team will respond. tom cruise, rihanna, justin timberlake are just a few of those who have been swatted. a proposed law would make swatting a felony and force swatters to pay for the costly police response. major banks accused of wrongly forcing homeowners into foreclosure are sending settlement checks this week. the money will go to 4 million borrowers who faced foreclosure. during the housing crisis. the government is forcing banks to give back $3.6 billion. the payments range from $300 to $125,000. the storm that blasted the rockies and northern plains with heavy snow, also left some areas completely encased in ice. a thick coating of ice glazed over roads and weighed down trees in south dakota sending heavy branches crashing into homes, cars and power lines. but it was a much different scenario on the other side of the country as temperatures soared here in northeast. people hit the outdoors to soak up the sun. myself included. some headed to the beach. and others even broke out the tank tops. from new haven, connecticut, to new york city, they were basking. temperatures topped 80 degrees. >> 80 degrees. in central park in a bathing suit. can i ask -- was it a bikini or were you really getting the sun? if your car is crashed into deep water, that is about all the time you have. 30 seconds, maybe one minute to get yourself and your family out alive. jeff farringer is a diver with the sheriff's department in naples, florida. he and emergency responders are learning how to escape before a car sinks. and usually by the time rescuers find the vehicle it is completely underwater. it is too late to save anyone. so there are safety precautions as jeff gets strapped in. the car's back window removed, as a last ditch escape route. and rescue divers in the water. from the shore it is frightening to watch as the car begins sinking. inside, it is even more terrifying as the water rushes in. jeff follows a simple, crucial procedure. seatbelt off. window down. get out. there is relief when he surfaces from the eight-foot deep canal. >> how did it go? >> very intimidating. the car went down quicker than i thought it would. >> now we are going to make it a little more complicated. >> in this test the car is filled with the driver and three passengers. let's start the clock. almost instantly. seatbelts off. windows down. within eight seconds -- both front seat passengers are out. water now rushing in. the back seat passengers scramble. within 12 seconds, the third passenger is out. the last one in 16 seconds. everyone is safe. all under 20 second. >> everybody is clear. >> let's watch it again this time in slow motion. those inside the car have off to fight against the current. but they say push through it can be done. and don't open the doors, it is almost impossible to do any way against the water pressure. it will sink the car faster. look what happened in this test. the door smashes closed. for these demonstrations, the car has roll down windows, most cars these days have power windows. there is no requirement that they keep working in water. auto manufacturers tell us most should work briefly. but what if they've don't? why? why did you stab these people? he didn't tell me anything. we knocked his hearing aid out. he couldn't hear us. >> the suspect identified as 20-year-old dylan quick. he faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. bond set at $100,000 on each charge. new signs from north korea that a missile test could come any day now. abc news learned that a missile is fueled and ready for launch. now news about a secret meeting between top officials from the u.s. and north korea. abc's bob woodruff has more from seoul. >> north korean newscasters issued new bluster calling for foreigners in south korea to get out now. right here on the streets of seoul we are getting more words, out of north korea, this time on north korea television targeting us us as journalists, american citizens and foreigners telling us that we need how to come up with an evacuation plan. u.s. officials believe a north korean missile launch could happen at any time. a flex of their muscle. possibly tied to the anniversary marking the 101st birthday of kim il-sun next week. it is a key date. we were there when the world heard young kim speak at a military parade honoring his late grandfather. the question is will a missile test be the next thing we hear from kim and his country? bob woodruff, abc news, seoul. just a horrible story now, a 6-year-old boy in new jersey was accidentally shot by a playmate and died. brandon holt playing with his 4-year-old friend monday night. it is unclear how the younger boy got a hold of the .22 caliber rifle or who owns the gun and don't know if anyone is going to be charged. democrats have set up the first political showdown on gun control. senate leader harry reid scheduled a vote for tomorrow. at issue will be whether a floor debate can get started. there is word that a deal to expand background checks could be announced today. it follows a capitol hill visit from grieving parents from newtown. as abc's jeff zeleny reports. >> reporter: the wheelers came to capitol hill carrying their grief and stories of ben, 6-year-old son gunned down in his first grade class at sandy hook elementary school. david graphic artist, francine, a piano teacher they were citizen lobbyist walking through congress armed with pictures of ben and brother nate who heard the shooting from his classroom. nate survived his little brother did not. >> i am thinking about ben and that he was murdered. and that his brother heard it. and i have to live with that. and that's what i am thinking about. and i am here, again, like i said, i am here for them. >> reporter: the wheelers and ten other newtown families are pushing president obama's gun legislation. they went door to door, urging senators to pass expanded background checks and limit the sale of high capacity weapons. like the kind that killed their children. >> all we ask is that you consider you know what we very firmly and very strongly believe is the right and fair thing to do. >> reporter: did they change any minds? by the end of the day they visited nearly a dozen senators including johnny isaacson, a georgia republican. he disagrees with their position but believes they should be heard. you plan to vote against some of the measures that they're supporting, but you still decided to meet with them. why? >> exactly. no one really knows what is going on, when this could happen, they're saying it could be next week to mark what would be kim jong-un's grandfather's 101st birthday. no one knows. >> we shall see. now to a developing story in florida. two little boys kidnapped by their father taken to cuba, back in the u.s. this morning. 4-year-old cole and 2-year-old chase taken from the grandparents' tampa home last week. they had custody of the children because of their father's drug charges. police say the dad kidnapped the boys and took them by boat to 300 miles away, cuba's shores. police in detroit say a gunman shot up a medical office building grabbed a female employee, disappeared after setting the building on fire. witnesses say the gunman was a maintenance worker at the clinic and the woman was an ex-girlfriend. last night, fire crews recovered two bodies. they are believed to be the gunman and the ex-girlfriend. a student told police he fantasized for years about stabbing people to death is in custody this morning in texas. >> police in suburban houston say 20-year-old dylan quick stabbed at least 14 students many on the face and neck. abc's brandi hitt explains what happened. good morning, brandi. good morning, john and marci. this was chaos on campus. eyewitnesses say the student went from building to building slashing at students with an exacto knife. police received a call of an attack at a college just outside of houston. >> the call was described as "male on the loose stabbing people." >> reporter: at least 14 people were wounded in an apparent stabbing at the lone star college systems campus in cypress. >> just going to class, and i just walked in and i saw a girl bleeding on the stairwell. >> pretty scary. knowing it is pretty close to home. i was there, couple feet away from what actually happened. >> reporter: authorities say at least 12 people were taken to area hospitals. four by helicopter. and the suspect is in custody. abc's houston affiliate ktrk obtained this cell phone video from a student showing sheriff's deputies finally subduing the alleged attacker. >> a white male we believe approximately 21 years of age and currently enrolled at lone star college system. >> reporter: authorities believe he acted alone. college officials initially sent out an alert urging people to seek shelter and lockdown. >> buildings were -- monitored, once it was determined that they were safe, and secure, then a very orderly evacuation of the campus did commence. >> reporter: the college is closed as the investigation continues. students and faculty chased the suspect down before deputies arrived. authorities still have not determined a motive. john and marci. >> thank you, brandi. senate democrats scheduled the first vote on gun control for tomorrow. the announcement came just as family members of victims in the newtown school massacre made personal appeals to senators on capitol hill. tomorrow's vote would only clear the way for a full debate on gun legislation. meanwhile, a bipartisan deal on expanding federal background checks is expected to be announced today. it would require checks on purchases at gun shows, and online. lawmakers in southern california are moving to crack down on swatting. that is when a prankster reports a fake emergency usually at the home of a celebrity hoping the police s.w.a.t. team will respond. tom cruise, rihanna, justin timberlake are just a few of those who have been swatted. a proposed law would make swatting a felony and force swatters to pay for the costly police response. major banks accused of wrongly forcing homeowners into foreclosure are sending settlement checks this week. the money will go to 4 million borrowers who faced foreclosure. during the housing crisis. the government is forcing banks to give back $3.6 billion. the payments range from $300 to $125,000. the storm that blasted the rockies and northern plains with heavy snow, also left some areas completely encased in ice. a thick coating of ice glazed over roads and weighed down trees in south dakota sending heavy branches crashing into homes, cars and power lines. but it was a much different scenario on the other side of the country as temperatures soared here in northeast. people hit the outdoors to soak up the sun. myself included. some headed to the beach. and others even broke out the tank tops. from new haven, connecticut, to new york city, they were basking. temperatures topped 80 degrees. >> 80 degrees. in central park in a bathing suit. can i ask -- was it a bikini or were you really getting the sun?
