Reporter do you think these questions diminish your message . I know they havent for me. You know, i know what we did. I hope that the public is savvy and they realize that World Records like this deserve to be scrutinized and looked at before theyre then officially applauded. Reporter and abc news also spoke with an independent marine specialist who says nyads right, the currents off florida were in her favor that day. And you might have seen some claims that nyad went seven hours without food. She says thats a bad rumor. And that she was constantly eating soft foods, robin. Absolutely. She maintains that, gio. And a lot of it was transparency on her part. She posted on her blog. And people were taking the information and trying to come up with some speculation. And unfortunately, trying to taint what she was able to accomplish. And, sam, when theyre talking about the currents, and she will be the first one to say, you have to have a little luck. And so many times the currents will work against you in a situation like that. In this case, it actually worked for her. Give her a little kudos for that. I mean, thats not anything she set up. Thats something she got lucky with. Theyre very strong currents in that area and theyve taken a lot of lives. And shes had it both ways. Worked for her and worked against her. Its this time of year, though, that time to go back to school or back to college. And folks all over the country are doing it. So are we, a little bit. Kind of, sort of. If you were a school in the country, wouldnt you pick some place on the beach in Santa Barbara . Josh would. One of us did. Josh went to college here, ladies and gentlemen. And were all going to his masters in sandology. Beautiful sight. Thats tough. Thats a tough school. Got to love it. Can we say its great to have you back . First, the story of the new bride charged with murdering her husband after a week of marriage. Jordan lynn graham has confessed to pushing her husband off a cliff in montana. Now, shes in federal court, facing life in prison. Ryan owens has the story. Reporter when cody johnson said until death do us part, little did he know his death would come just a week later. Allegedly at the hands of his brandnew bride. This morning, 22yearold jordan lynn graham will be back in a federal courtroom in montana, facing seconddegree murder charges. Almost positive that jordan had done something or somehow or someway was a part of what happened to cody. Reporter friends of the 25yearold victim say they warned him, his new bride was trouble. When cody told me he was going to propose to jordan, i wasnt real supportive of it. I did have a conversation with him saying that, i think he should, you know, reconsider. Reporter but the two love birds wed june 29th. Here is the invitation. Investigators say a mere eight days later, the new couple went for a walk through montanas Glacier National park. Graham told her friends she was already having second thoughts about the marriage and planned to tell him. Im about to talk to him, she texted a friend that day, according to court documents. Ill pray for you guys. Graham wrote back, but dead serious, if you dont hear from me at all again tonight, something happened. Something happened, all right. As the couple neared the top of the cliff, their argument got heated. Graham told the fbi, her husband grabbed her arm. Then, graham stated, she could have just walked away. But due to her anger, she pushed johnson with both hands in the back. And as a result, he fell facefirst off the cliff. Grahams friends cannot believe shes capable of murder. I never, ever expected her to be capable of hurting someone to that degree. I mean, especially someone who would worship her. And he would have given her anything. Reporter but fbi agents say she not only committed the crime but the coverup. First, telling authorities she last saw her husband in the backseat of the car, leaving their driveway. Days later, graham called authorities to report she found her husband dead at the bottom of that cliff. The park ranger commented, it was an odd place to locate a body. According to court documents, the new bride and even newer widow responded. It was a place he wanted to see before he died. For Good Morning America, ryan owens, abc news, dallas. And joining us now with more on the case is abcs chief Legal Affairs anchor, dan abrams. She confessed to killing her husband. And the big problem, though, is the lie that she told. Right . If she had said, we were up on the top of a mountain. And we got into a little bit of an altercation. And the next thing i know, i pushed him and he falls off a cliff, i dont think shed be charged with murder. The problem is, she came into this case saying, the last time i saw him, he was being taken away in a car. And shes the one that finds the body at the bottom. Then, later she makes this confession, where she says she pushed him. I think thats the reason shes charged with murder here. Could there be a plea deal . I think there will be. This is someone, it sounds like, according to the authorities, has confessed. Seconddegree murder, an aggressive charge in connection, with these sorts of facts. I wouldnt be surprised if her lawyers try to get her an Involuntary Manslaughter or manslaughter charge, which could end up having her serve limited time behind bars. Explain to everyone why its being held in federal court. Because it was in a national park. When a crime occurs in a national park, it goes to federal court, as opposed to state court. And the text message we saw in the piece. Yeah. You would think it might go to premeditation except shes not saying im going to do something to him. It sounds like shes saying, hes going to do something to me. It makes it clear that there were issues. It makes it clear that the two of them were having real problems, which is probably another reason why the authorities here decided to pursue a murder charge. Well see what happens, as always. Dan, thanks very much. Were going to turn to the hunt for the serial bank robber that has the fbi stumped. Theyre seeking the publics help in tracking down this man. The socalled i55 bandit. Reporter this morning, authorities across the country are on the hunt for this serial bank robber. His disguise similar in almost every heist. A hat and a pair of dark glasses. Its more rare when the bank robber goes across the country in different states. Reporter the fbi has dubbed him the i55 bandit because he initially targeted banks along the i55 corridor, near st. We want to kick off our heat index from a very candid confession. Singer Michael Buble, says that when his son, noah, was born just a few weeks ago, it wasnt love at first sight. Abcs juju chang has more. I just havent met you yet reporter singer Michael Buble is famous for his emotional depth, while belting out love songs like havent met you yet. So, it was more surprising when the canadian crooner admitted it wasnt love at first sight when he laid eyes on his new baby, who was born just two weeks ago. I didnt have that overwhelming feeling of love. Reporter buble told the social, that meeting his newborn son, noah, for the first time, wasnt what he expected. I had heard all of these stories about how this moment of life changes. And when you saw them, everything was but it wasnt like that for me. It was like meeting a stranger. Reporter some may find it shocking. But psychiatrists we spoke with say that bubles feelings are more common than people might think. I think many men, when they see this baby, are really hit by the reality of the responsibility. And oh, my goodness, how am i going to do it . Thats not 100 wonderful experience. Reporter and those feelings of ambivalence arent limited to new fad dads. New mom Tamar Braxton recently admitted to abcs abbie boudreau, she had trouble bonding to her new baby. You said you didnt immediately fall in love. I didnt. I loved him. But i wasnt, like, yeah, god, my baby, ooh. It wasnt that. It was more like, what do i do now . Reporter is it shocking . Or just refreshingly honest . Parents we spoke with on the street had divided opinions. I think i was excited the first time i saw the sonogram. Reporter so, it was love at first sight at the sonogram . Absolutely. Most men cannot really relate with their babies until they can start verbally speaking. Reporter is it fake to say, oh, love at first sight . No. Im sure that most men men say they are in love all the time without actually meaning it. Why should it be any different when its a baby . Reporter for Good Morning America, juju chang, abc news, new york. A guy said that. A guy said that. He said it. Oh. Ouch. Ouch. Here to discuss, perhaps the troubles men have with bonding, rich besser back with us. You and i were talking about this. I feel like this is more, perhaps, a function of where we are in society at this point, where were willing to discuss this. Were willing to be more open with the idea that it might be love but its incredibly overwhelming. I think its wonderful. Michael buble has given guys an opportunity to talk about this because you think when you have this baby that magically, immediately, youre all going to have this connection. And it doesnt always work that way. For some parents, dads, it can take days, months, sometimes its not until your kids playing little league, where youre like, wow. I would walk through fire for this guy. For me, i fed her for the first time. The first 40 minutes the first 40 minutes, to feed her for the first time, i think theres also this idea of traditional gender roles. And perhaps those walls are being broken, as well. In my practice, im a pediatrician. I see dads. And theres incredible guilt and shame if you dont have that feeling right away. But it is that oneonone time. That time when youre feeding. And for guys, what role do i have . She carried the baby for nine months. She is doing the feeding. What could i possibly do . Im going to do everything wrong. What are suggestions if a dad has problem bonding . Mom needs to give dad some room to do his own thing. Oneonone time. The night feed is a wonderful thing to do. You have the baby. You have the closeness. Youre doing mom a good thing. Yeah, you are. Youre learning to interact in your own way. Dads and moms dont hold their babies, dont cuddle, in the exact same way. Its not that ones right. But you need that space to develop it. If you take that time, youre going to develop that bond. Its going to come. Yeah. So glad were talking about it. Theres probably a lot of people that feel this way but they dont say anything. Its okay. Its okay. Now, to the 12yearold girl who beat the odds. Just the third person ever in north america to survive a rare brain infection, amy. Its incredible. For two months, kali hardig has been battling this terrifying, nearly always fatal infection. And now, shes speaking out for the first time. Three. Four. Reporter its a sight no one ever thought theyd see. Do this stuff every day when you go home, right . No. Reporter 12yearold kali hardig, standing, smiling. And this morning, for the first time, speaking about her dramatic brush with death. I was real sick. My momma wouldnt leave the hospital. Momma was scared to leave me, she told me. Reporter 9 weeks ago, young kali contracted a killer, braineating infection at an arkansas water park. Theres only been 128 known infections like hers in the u. S. Over the last 50 years. And miraculously, kali is the third person to survive. I can tell ive gotten better. Reporter and more miraculous, today, shes going home. What are your thoughts going to be when you get home . Play with kloee, my dog, kloee. I have a yorkie. Shes about 1. And im going to play with her. And lay on the bed. Reporter kali has undergone intensive therapy. And takes special medications flown in from germany. It was the speed with which her mother brought her to the hospital after being infected that made all of the difference. Today, that quickthinking mother says she couldnt be more relieved. Can you remember what you said the first time you spoke to me . Momma. And mom was ecstatic. Reporter now, with a renewed lease on life, kali says with a big smile, that she has even bigger plans. I plan to become a hair stylist. And do hair. Yep. Thats my dream. Oh. Her doctor says she can go back to school on monday. Thats amazing. For the first half of the day. And continue therapy in the second half of the day. So, she is a walking miracle. She is. And her mom is the one to thank for this. Interesting. Doing this show, we start covering these stories as news stories. And now, to see her, now to see her come back. Thats great. Thats great. And more happy news for everybody. So, weve had a blast this week. Heading back to school, as you do, through our pep rally. Its called gmau. And today is joshs turn. Thats great because we are going to Santa Barbara, folks. Oh, were going west. The university of california at Santa Barbara. The only thing, perhaps, as good as the school itself, are the memories that i still have from my days there. Take a look. Tucked between the stunning Santa Ynez Mountains and the pacific, Santa Barbara is the gem of the california coast. The u. C. Campus, spread over 1,000 acres of ocean front, is for me, the most beautiful in the country. Calling it home for four years was as good as you might think. Water polo was the initial draw for me. But what endured beyond the sports and the Natural Beauty of my home state, is the camaraderie, the lifelong friends i would meet. Hi, josh. Good morning, america. Greetings from campus point at beautiful u. C. Santa barbara. Reporter friends like justin pollack, one of my very best. Fortunately, he still puts up with me even now. 10 or maybe 20 years later. And today, hes come back to help show off all that we love about being gauchos. Hard to imagine, but this is part of our campus here. The ocean, surfers, the mountains. We spent very little time here during school. Of course. Reporter my time at ucsb changed my life in a very lasting way. Its where i indulged my love for journalism. Were hanging out outside of the school newspaper. Reporter i combined my love of sports and writing into one. And became the Sports Editor of the campus paper, the daily nexus. Pizza. Staple of all college newsrooms across the world. Lets look at the sports office, where josh spent many hours penning his column. You see the sports office. Its massive. And for anyone who doubted josh actually worked here, we did find one surviving picture of josh at his desk, diligently writing his column. The bulldogs entered thrusday nights game staunched usbs chances. But were led to a sobering religion experience. Admiring your beautiful prose from 1992. Another rare fact, that josh rarely used the door here at the daily nexus. He had his own entrance and exit. Lets use it. Reporter memories of my time there bring a smile of images burned into my soul. The tower, the beach, my dorm freshman year, the year justin and i met on this basketball court. Josh and i spent thousands of hours out here playing basketball when we were in college. And though he may tell you differently, his strength wasnt shooting jump shots from half court. He would try to shoot from way out there. He was better here, catching my twopoint pass. Reporter i had a feeling that justins tour might get a little, shall we say, off track. I decided to check in with justin and my producer, rich. Hey. Hey, man, none of that is going in the piece. Whatever youre doing right now, none of its going in. Okay. So great. So sweet. Not only did it make the piece, look who else made it to new york. Justin. Justin, perhaps the smartest. Not only did he go to ucsb, he managed to stay there professionally. A smart man. One of my dearest and oldest friends. We just got talking again about what made it great. And its not brains its not neuroscience. Its the place where you make the friends you have for all of life. We have a great group of friends. Josh is still a great friend today. Yeah. You havent changed. The passion we had in college, you still have here. Its highenergy. Everything is allin. Whats the memory of him Walking Around campus . Im trying to erase that still, robin. The images, after swimming, id see josh riding around in his beach cruiser, in his speedo and his parka. Trying to get and a what . A parka. It worked. The swimming thing, i dont get it. Thats a shot from high school there. I know that look, though. Thats the swim team. The parka you wear. But the speedo, im not sure about. Erase that image. Yeah. America thanks you. Or not. Its great to see you. Thank you so much. Its good to be here. Robins up tomorrow. Go nowhere. Good morning. Im kristen sze. Ceremonies are being held across the nation on this 12th anniversary of the september 11th attacks. In San Francisco, the tributes to fallen firefighters began an hour and a half ago at station 7 on fulsome street. Firefighters gathered in front of the station. A bell rang at 6 59 signifying the last alarm, thats the time the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. It was followed by a minute of silence and then the reading of the names of the 343 new york city firefighters who were killed that day. Check on your morning commute with leyla gulen. All right. Its been a long time since i could say permanent. How is it . You know, i feel like i paid my dues. Its been a really long road of trying to get a job to stick. And stay relevant, in this business for 20 years. Ive been writing books. I thought to myself, i cant write another book about myself. I wanted to host to be me. And i have an opportunity to sit at a table with amazing women. And everyone youve done this. Youve done this as a guest on other shows. Sharing yourself. But on my first day of the view, i wanted to be myself. And he made me the most comfortable on my first day. I was so grateful he was my guest. Working with the girls. Yeah. Its obviously a mix of personalities. But how are they . How is my girl, whoopi . This will be my 19th show today overall. I must say, theyre an Incredible Group of women. We all get along. I hope for years to come, i can say that. Barbara, i feel like im part of history. Its her last year. I hope i do her justice to make her proud. Whoopi, awardwinning, and sherris my cohort. You and sherri, actually, demonstrated twerking the other day. Miley dominating the headlines right now. Yeah. And you had a counterintuitive take. Youre defending her at this point. A little bit. You know . I mean, at that age first of all, i think the songs pretty good. I think, you know, at that age, you do kind of try to be a little more provocative. And its only like whoopi said, in hindsight, you go, what was i thinking . You have to go through those things in your life in order to grow. This is my favorite thing. Interview after your debut show. You said oh, no. Its been your dream to work with Barbara Walters. The analogy she made to said dream was, it was like the time i got a heated toilet seat. Youre missing the whole part of it. The context being the context being, i made it. When i was on the show, i said to myself, you know you made it when you are sitting next to Barbara Walters going, im working with this legend. And then, i just moved here. And so, in the place im saying, has a heated toilet. Im like, oh, my god. I made it. So, putting those two analogies together was probably not the smartest thing. But you get the idea. Really quickly, its like you made it. Sorry . You feel like you made it again. Feels like i made it again. Traffic. 47th is not looking good. Its very crowded down here. Jenny mccarthy, everybody. And so far, with you. This goes in the oven. For 15 minutes. And you do a quick broil. The broil will make the tomatoes so flavorful and so good. And you mix it in with the linguine.
