to an 84-year-old mom of four. now $370 million richer. we want you to meet the woman who let the winner go ahead of her in line and score the golden ticket. i wonder what she says. good morning, everyone, on this friday eve. lara is off today. good to have paula faris here with us, and as always we have a lot to get to including that explosive report overnight that the national security agency has been collecting customer phone records for millions of americans. >> a record of every single verizon phone call. we'll talk to jonathan karl about that. >> first let's get to sam in clear water, florida. so much of the state bracing for tropical storm andrea and, sam, you've already had tornado warnings this morning. >> we've had tornado warnings all around us this morning. it's exactly what you expect when these feeder bands of the storm start to work off the gulf and onshore through southern and central florida. now, let's get adjusted to where the storm is. the first named storm of this hurricane season came before got a week into this season. this is the radar showing you the center of that storm about 200 miles off the shore where we are right now, and look at these enormous bands of storms. the first one that came through florida, doing damage, as well, as we've been able to see. the second one loading up is about to come through later. now, look at the watches and warnings. this is so unusual. not only do we have that peninsula on the west coast with the watches and warnings but look at the east coast from flagler beach all the way up the eastern seaboard. this storm will have very strong winds and even coastal impacts but mostly it's going to have rain. by thursday night we feel like this moves into the big bend of florida, that little curve in florida that's north of cedar key, a little north of horsetail beach there and then it starts kind of making its way inland for the most part along the coast and picking up another low. it will continue to spread rain in the northeast. this is several days of rain, all the way up the eastern seaboard, not just here. >> how far up is it going to go? >> oh, it's going all the way up. we'll catch this rain all the way up toward exactly where you are and on up even the coast of maine and massachusetts. in this area it could be from anywhere from 6 to 8 inches. further north, not much less because it gets a second infusion from that other area of low pressure by the time it gets to you. >> okay, sam. you can really see it coming down so hard. >> i now, such a large area affected. thank you, sam. now to the sudden building collapse in downtown philadelphia, the death toll now at six. rescue crews have been searching through the rubble for survivors for almost 24 hours now, and abc's ron claiborne has the latest from the scene there in philadelphia. good morning, ron. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you, robin. take a look at that tangled mess there behind me. all those tons of debris and rubble, it's really hard to believe that anybody could be alive underneath all of that and that's not what rescue workers were finding. they were looking in there, did not find anybody alive for many hours and just before midnight came the stunning announcement, there was a survivor. just before midnight with hope to find someone still alive all but extinguished, it happened. this video obtained exclusively by "gma" shows 61-year-old myra plekam being pulled from the heap of rubble. she is in critical condition. at the scene, the joy of the discovery of the survivor. >> it feels outstanding to be able to pull somebody alive. >> reporter: that just minutes after philadelphia's mayor had delivered the grim news. >> we will now confirm that there are six people who died. one man and five women. >> the whole [ bleep ] building collapsed. >> reporter: this video taken by a construction worker across the street shows the moment the building came crashing down. >> the people in the building, you could hear hollering for help. >> we ran right around the corner. we saw a couple of people and started digging and pulling people out. >> reporter: teams have been taking down the remains of this building with a huge backhoe when something went horribly wrong, the building tumbling down onto the salvation army thrift shop next door with workers and shoppers inside. this morning, nearly 24 hours later, the search-and-rescue operation continues for those who survived and those who did not. >> it's a tedious operation. they're taking their time, dangerous environment for our members. >> we said, can you hear us, can you hear us and then we heard someone over here and then we pulled the rubble off of them and went in and tried to help. >> reporter: the building depicted by two photos, this one taken just before and this taken just after. and the search-and-rescue effort will continue until every inch of that rubble is checked. that could take many more hours. back to you. >> a lot of work to do, ron, thanks very much. now to that stunning report that the national security agency h beeecng phone records from millions of americans under a top secret court order. "the guardian" broke the story and jon karl has been following it through the night. this is a blanket order. every verizon call, both phone numbers, time and length. >> reporter: this top secret order obtained by "the guardian" requested by the fbi on april 25th, ten days after the boston marathon bombing and it covers the phone records of millions of americans. and while the white house is not directly confirming this story, they are defending this massive collection of data that it describes, a senior white house official telling me just a short while ago "information of the sort described in 'the guardian' article has been a critical tool in protecting the nation from terrorist threats to the united states as it allows counterterrorism personnel to discover whether known or suspected terrorists have been in contact with other persons who may be engaged in terrorist activities, particularly in the united states." this official makes two other points, george. first of all, this order does not allow the government to listen in to those phone calls, only to look at their duration, their length and who is calling who, and the second point they make is that key members of congress were aware of this. >> they may be and the white house may be defending it right now but there's already been a bipartisan outcry. >> reporter: that's right. first of all, you have civil liberty groups completely outraged by this. the aclu calling it "a massive invasion of privacy. and al gore saying "in the digital era, privacy must be priority. is it just me or is secret blanket surveillance obscenely outrageous?" very strong words of objection coming from the former democratic vice president, al gore. i don't think he's going to be alone. >> jon, thanks very much. to that apparent suicide attempt by paris jackson. the only daughter of michael jackson rushed to the hospital yesterday after downing painkillers and cutting herself with a kitchen knife on her wrist. abc's david wright is in los angeles with the latest. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. paris jackson is said to be physically fine after that apparent suicide attempt and getting the appropriate medical attention, and her family is asking for the one thing that it's been toughest to give her since the day she was born, privacy. >> overdose, sheriff responding. >> reporter: the call came in about 1:30 a.m. wednesday. a medical emergency at the jackson family home. this time michael jackson's 15-year-old daughter. >> female, 15, od'd on 20 motrin and cut her arm with a kitchen knife. >> reporter: paris jackson rushed to the hospital by ambulance after apparently taking 20 motrin, cutting her arm and calling a suicide hotline. the person at the other end of the phone called 911. >> hello, face, that's rarely ever is seen in public without makeup. >> reporter: a surprising cry for help from a teen who days earlier was video blogging beauty trips. >> i need serious help. i'm crazy. i am crazy. >> reporter: it's almost four years to the day that we first heard her speak. >> i just wanted to say -- >> reporter: with that heartbreaking eulogy at her father's funeral. >> -- that my daddy is the best father you could ever imagine. >> reporter: she's had to relive her dad's death several times in court. including the case still on going in which she and other family members are suing aeg live for the wrongful death of her father. she was deposed in the case but a family lawyer says she was under no pressure to testify. >> the jackson family and the jackson lawyers are putting no pressure on paris regarding this case at all. >> reporter: the lawyer representing aeg offered his own words of sympathy. >> this is a real person involved here. there's a 15-year-old girl, and something incredibly tragic happened and none of us know why. >> reporter: this morning some say there were signs she was struggling, the tabloids noticing apparent wounds on her wrist that could be explained as self-harming, cutting. lately her twitter feed has been full of song lyrics, mostly songs about heartbreak and loss including this -- "yesterday all my troubles seemed so far away now it looks as though they're here to stay." that beatles tune one of the ones the jackson family owns as part of michael jackson's estate. the jackson family lawyer telling abc news being a sensitive 15-year-old girl is difficult enough, even more so when you've lost the person closest to you, robin. >> she was so incredibly close to her father, michael jackson. okay, david, thanks very much. we hope she gets the help she needs. >> we sure do. >> to josh with the other top stories developing. good morning, josh. good morning to you and all of you. we begin with a judge's ruling in favor of a desperately ill girl from philadelphia, which could now have widespread implications. the judge has decided 10-year-old sarah murnaghan must be placed on the adult donor list for a lung transplant. until now children under 12 had to wait for pediatric lungs to become available but sarah's family sued saying their daughter couldn't wait that long. the judge's ruling is only temporary. the national transplant board has called an emergency meeting monday to reconsider the policy and the obama administration is refusing to intervene. more fallout from the lavish spending at the irs. just days after an investigation found the agency spent some $50 million on conferences that featured activities such as the one you see here, two irs employees have been suspended and could be fired pending review. they're accused of accepting $1,100 in free food and other gifts during a $4 million conference in 2010. new details about the irs' targeting of conservative groups. "the wall street journal" reports the two workers in the cincinnati field office have testified that they got orders from washington to scrutinize tea party groups. testimony that appears to contradict that of top irs officials. and the tsa will not allow pocketknives, bats or golf clubs on planes any time soon. after an outcry from flight attendants, the agency decided against lifting the ban. hear, hear. a scare in washington, smoke seen billowing into the air from capitol hill last night turned out to be a hardware store on fire. two firefighters were hurt. we'll have an update on their condition as news becomes available. also a scary scene in ohio. an out-of-control minivan slams into a busy taco bell right through the dining area. three people were hurt. but you can see that woman in orange grab her child in time. police say the driver had suffered a medical emergency. a fan at a rather thrilling white sox/mariners game went a little too far to catch a game-tying grand slam ball. how far did he go?
