>> reporter: okay, and there are half a million people. we have a giant parade and -- oh my goodness. 50 motorized vehicles. 700 people in the parade and that is the people walking in the parade today. that is some security issues. all the officers that had vacation days are working today but there is a ton of security. plainclothes officers and bicycles and motorcycles. the fans have been gathering for the last three or four hours. >> and we've been here for one hour. >> and how do you like the giants? >> think a lot of people would agree with you on that. >> i think buster posey. >> and thank you. you are going, you have other giants ready to go? all right. sharon carolyn and dan, you can feel the excitement. >> you sure can. it's absolutely thrilling. you are looking at civic center plaza where there are at least 100,000 people waiting for the ceremony itself to begin. they are going to have wait because the parade is yet to start and it could take several hours before it finishes up at civic center plaza. >> and leigh glaser, are you there? >> you can see the stage is set for all the dignitaries and the players, take a look at the plaza. are you kidding me? this is what it's all about. these fans have been out here, some of them actually spent the night overnight out here. but it is just a sea of orange. everyone is so excited. and this little guy. how cute are you? are you feeling it? >> yeah. >> been here since 1:00 last night. where are you from? >> redwood city. >> it's all across the bay area. giant fans from everywhere. >> we were born in san francisco and we have been giant fans all our lives. >> and what about you. i kind of like this. >> it's when we started growing his beard. >> just a sea of orange and black. it is a party in the city. whew! >> and we will go checking back but let's go back to the start of the parade. kristen sze and cheryl jennings, i know it's so exciting? >> we can see the floats and some of the motorized vehicles just lining up. the crowd is going wild. we have a lot of barricades to keep crowds under control. >> there is an estimated 50,000 people here alone. here we go. i love it. >> it sounds like they are getting ready to start. did i hear a horn to signify the start of this? >> everybody here has a horn. >> while we are waiting for the parade, they are getting lined up because imagine having 50 motorized vehicles but i want to take you over to some of the fans here. follow me. we have fans right here. where are you from? >> san francisco. >> stand back? >> pleasant hill. >> who took mass transit? >> those are the good people my goo goodness and they had to add extra vehicles just to get people here. >> you can't believe the mob scene here. >> and took the bart train from lafayette. what was it like? >> i was lucky i had an ez rider pass there were lines of hundred people deep. everybody was so excited. it was electric. it was amazing. >> all right. so you are here because you want to.... >> i want to celebrate. bringing it to san francisco we've been waiting really a long time. >> and i want to address your attention to the office building in the financial district, look at all the office workers who are taking a risk looking at the view and parade. >> that is the view to have right now as we get ready to launch this parade. this is the medication for it. that is why people have showed up. >> and they talked about all the mass transit facilities being so crowded, on caltrain just started letting riders on for free. everybody bound for the city they allowed on it was so crowded. city early this morning, it's just packed with people who spent the night and ready to be here at the crack of dawn. >> absolutely, on the peninsula, we saw a whole bunch of people to get on to bart. there were a lot of people trying to get a seat on a bart train to get into the city. >> let's go to wayne freedman who is there at civic center. i know you have a great vantage point. you're going to be there for a while before we see the dignitaries? >> they're estimating at 12:30 but it looks like it will be even longer. just walking into this area in the north podium in front of city hall took 45 minutes to get through the crowd. it's all backed up. not just here but all the way up polk street and beyond. this is very happy town. a little while ago, someone passed out orange towels for everyone, thousands of orange towels and probably still not enough. 12:30 is the estimate. pd has a strong presence and fire department. a few moments they took a lady away. they wheeled her out. it's going to be quite a while. its joyous celebration. >> thanks very much. >> as wayne mentioned the woman who had shortness of breath. that could be a concern if it goes much longer than people anticipated without restroom facilities and many people showed up and they didn't bring water and didn't bring food. >> standing there for that lent of time can make you feel woozy packed in as closely as they are. >> let's go to carolyn tyler. you are on market street? >> yes, montgomery and market street. it has been pandemonium all morning long. the crowd is kind of quiet and just anticipating and waving. you remember those, loud annoying horns for world cup soccer. they are back, but they are not annoying or irritating for this victory parade. it's part of a carnival atmosphere. we have so many people that has come as far away from modesto, coming at 5:00, 6:00 in the morning, talking about great seats. we have seen people sitting on top of muni buses, sitting on scaffolding and buildings and trying to get a look what is going on. we have kids skipping school. parents playing hooky. it's an ocean of orange and black. lots of outfits on the kids and adults, as well. people are just waiting and ready to see this dream team of giants. the mayor talked about how difficult it was to come up with enough confetti but they did get emergency shipments in. >> all right. carolyn, we lost your audio, she is talking about the confetti that they shipped in to have enough of it to provide along the parade room. you see the orange balloons, what a terrific, how much fun to be part of something for the city and all of the bay area. >> just a remarkable scene out there this morning. let's go back to cheryl jennings and kristen sze. >> the band started. >> they are excited, got a call >> everybody loves a winner and everybody is a winner today. >> and we see the first motorcycle. >> here we go, we are underway. >> and fans and the crude right here. >> and john miller, hall of fame broadcaster. how exciting is this. >> this is just incredible. >> we want to bring in a sports director larry beil who is with us this morning. what a scene this is. >> i'm overwhelmed by the shot we are looking at from the plaza and from downtown. it's unbelievable. when we were out at the ballpark for game one and two, you could feel a sense of energy, i don't know how you can describe any other way unless you feel it. what i'm seeing today, it's almost like that times ten. remember when you say the sentence, welcome to the san francisco giants world championship victory parade, people have been waiting five decades to hear that sentence and experience that. one of our crew members, he is wearing a giants' shirt he has lived for so many years, waiting to see. >> he told us he waited 52 years. >> the unfurling of these banners, i'm guessing the front office the giants front office at the front of the parade. >> a lot of the front office.... >> you remember the 49ers, debartolo on the part of larry -- they wanted every single member of the giants organization to experience this moment, this energy, this electricity. it is breathtaking. it is spectacular to be part of. i know sometimes it's a cliche when we talk about how sports and events can bring people together, but you are seeing the lig embodiment of that right now. >> i think one of the things it also reflects, giants' baseball will never be the same. in some ways the city won't be the same. we have a long few years with a bad economy and difficult jobless numbers. there are a lot of things that weigh in people's minds and a chance to enjoy time in the hometown and just celebrate is something wonderful. its joy. >> and has just come behind. so close to not making it the playoffs and it turned around in september and the excitement has been building everyday. >> look at this group of people all in the orange shirts. like we said, maybe 700 people are going to walk. let's go to sheryl and kristen sze. you must be seeing some wonderful things. >> we are out in the parade. everybody is high fiving us. you can't believe it here. >> i feel great. this is an awesome time to be here. it's amazing. i have to go. >> in the parade. >> the parade is leaving. >> thanks, guys. >> that is fun. he has a parade. >> they have to get to civic center plaza. >> and little boy with the beard this is going to take, you know what, it will be the best walk ever. it just a terrific scene, just a terrific scene. >> i'm guessing some of the players, i don't know if you want to call it a float. but the players are not going to be walking in the street. we know that for sure and they aren't going to be in convertibles and we'll have to take a close look. >> i suspect the giants players will be on the rear. >> i think we have a little more to go but some of the players but many will be on a cable car. >> that is what we heard. we'll have a cable car with number of players in it. but edgar renteria is going to have his own vintage convertible. >> this is like a thanksgiving parade. they have done a terrific job. >> when i was driving and listening on the radio they were talking about the crowd estimate would be like, one of the reporters said, i don't know i think it's going to be like a billion people. a little on the high side, it feels like that body to body. is there any orange left in the city to purchase? if you wanted to buy something orange right now, i in the of the fruit, maybe there is a run on there. >> there is the confetti that was hard to come by. >> we talked to people at giants dugout store spending $3500. >> people waited in line for hours and hours. >> at the giants dugout store the line was out the door and around the block and everybody patiently waiting to scoop up whatever item, anything they could get. i think the giants might make a dollar or two on this. >> and let's check with carolyn tyler on market street. >> the crowd is just waiting, they are trying to see what is going on. every time an officer goes by on a motorcycle or there seems to be a sign, they start getting very excited about it. do you see them sitting there, to me it's just amazing how people want to see this. it's just incredible. this is a great spot because they are going to make their way down market street. right here is they are coming down montgomery. >> i'm sorry. we lost her again. that is going to happen as you can imagine, stringing cables with all the crowds. we'll get her back. that will happen periodically throughout the morning. >> we know the cal band is excited to be there. >> let's go back to cheryl and kristen sze. they have the governor mayor-elect. >> and we have lieutenant governor and at the head of the parade and he is getting a huge cheer. >> had he went by in a blue car right there. with dianne feinstein waving. >> we have a shot of dianne feinstein. governor swarzenegger will be speaking. >> we can tell who they are. here we go, and here is managing partner. >> and here is -- you can see out here, in the parade. and then behind galan family and motorized cars and those are going to have the players on them. the players are coming out. >> i'm so happy with steven mcgowen. we're not having a parade without them and we're remembering a lot of franchise. he saved this team years ago. he was guy that barry bonds and it was barry's presence and tireless work behind the answer with larry there to help get the gorgeous. i remember seeing mr. mcgowen after the loss to the angels. they have a celebration of the season at at&t park and the players. it's the exact opposite of the emotions that you are seeing right now. that is what it was like that day. it was beautiful afternoon so this moment is special sweet. >> and 1962 with the mccovey line drive and 89 earthquake that was swept by the a's and the loss when the giants were five out to the angels, it's all done now. it's been lifted. that is all part of the legacy of what fans call torture. that is it. that is some of the history that has created that word. >> this. >> it's really amazing. and. >> there he is. willie mays. >> what a moment for willie. >> what a moment for willie mays. >> he is 79 years old. >> and willie mccovey right behind him. it doesn't get better than this. >> before the parade started but we didn't know whether he was going could come. there is willie mccovey, another icon of san francisco baseball. one greatest in baseball history. hit more homers in history before that guy named bonds came along. mccovey cove is named after him. he has had in injuries but it's unfortunate. he and willie mays are. think about the modern day baseball players, most of them are in the 20s and 30s. they never saw mays and mccovey play but when willie mays, everybody stopped. he is a living legend. grown men are just frozen. they are speechless. jeffrey leonard in this vehicle. one flap down, giant fans will remember some of his big home runs. we have giant baseball alums, aside from the legends of all time, it looks like giants from the '80s and '90s. >> and folks from the front office have reached market street and you can see the confetti raining down on them. what a moment. >> and carolyn tyler is in this area as the parade starts winding the way past market street. makes the turn off of montgomery. it has quite a way up market street, more than hundred thousand people are waiting to greet the whole parade there. >> what is going to happen, a full ceremony and lot of speakers, you'll hear from governor swarzenegger and so many people. there will be a performance by beach blanket babylon. there is an entire ceremony at civic center plaza. about the palace 24 hours for gavin newsom. not a bad 24 hours to be elected as lieutenant governor and to take part in this victory. it's almost like a double victory parade. here is brian sabian a long time general manager. one of longest in baseball. he was the architect of this team that nobody thought could win a world series. there was a funny moment at the end of game two when all of the giants minor league coaches and instructors gathered for a photograph on the field right after game two. sabien and he was the last guy to get into position for the photograph. people in the sands, people were yelling sabien and they were same people calling to have him fired back in june. that is the nature of the beast when you are general manager giants had four losing seasons in a row. it didn't look like it was going to be a big year. and everything came together and bochy, and sabenn. >> let's go back to carolyn tyler as the parade makes it past her. carolyn? >> everybody is doing very well. appetizer, all these folks go by they got the personnel office, and everyone who goes by gets a big party hello, cheers. i wanted to tell you about some of the folks that have come here today. hi. what time did you get here today? >> i probably around 8:00. >> brian wilson. >> with or without the beard. >> to have these people come out for this, it's amazing. >> and we're a professional photographer. >> so you are here to take pictures for prosperity as the crowd continues to go crazy. i've never seen anything like this. this is really quite a sight. it's wonderful. >> it's remarkable. >> this woman talking about having her own hours, i ran into a group of people who were here and i said don't worry your boss will be here, too. >> doing the split on the top of sha vehicle, i hope we don't have any mascot injuries. >> how fun to see lucille. >> that is bruce
