thanks for joining us. the manhunt is on in oakland where police are searching for the gunman who shot and injured six people in a hail of bullets last night. jenelle wang is live at the oakland police department with details. jenelle? >> kristen where we hear oakland police have a name of the shooter and on the lookout for this man at this hour. as for the victims, they are all listed either from stable to critical condition. we hear all were adult men. this all unfolded just after 9:30 last night near the 9800 block of d. street. that's another international boulevard. police responded to a shooting in the street. when they arrived, they found a total of five victims scattered in the area. most found in the street but one was found shot in a house. there are unconfirmed reports that he was an innocent bystander hit by a stray bullet. a sixth victim reportedly showed up on his own to highland hospital. the new mayor jean quan sworn in on monday says she wants to hire more police officers but there just isn't any money. she wants police officers to correct 9% to their pension plan so the city can use the money saved to hire more police officers. she certainly has her hands full with this violent crime wave and only five days into the new year. just this past week, two shootings of two men. the manhunt is on for the suspec suspects. reporting live, jenelle wang, abc 7 news. >> jenelle, thanks very much. san francisco's chief of police is again calling for its officers to be armed with tasers after a police shooting yesterday that was all caught on video. an officer shot and wounded a man sitting in a wheelchair after the man stabbed one of the officers. during a press conference, police released the cellphone video of the shooting taken by a bystander. officers arrived at the scene after receiving a call about a man slashing tires on parked cars. when police confronted the man, he stabbed an officer. even though the man was in a wheelchair, he was not confined to it, got up at one point and because walking around. the video shows he had thrown the night away before police opened fire. >> the video showing us the focus of the camera of an event and they're showing one point of view. we're not seeing what the officers are seeing. obviously we're not seeing what the officers are thinking about. >> well, the suspect and wounded officer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. >> firefighters in san rafael are putting out hot spots and looking for a cause after a fire burnt two homes overnight. the flames started just after 3 a.m. on maywood way. it may have begun in the garage of a vacant home and spread to a home next-door. there were no injuries. it took firefighters a little over an hour to knock it down. two people have been displaced. >> in east palo alto, investigators say arson was the cause of a fire at a city council meeting. 50 people had to be evacuated after someone set a trash can on fire in the building that houses the city council chambers. it appears two suspects were caught on surveillance video but have not yet been found. >> a volunteer youth minister faces child molestation charges. robert clack had freak access to the boys in junior high school while working at the church. it's located in the area around saratoga avenue and prospect road in san jose. police are asking for anyone with information on the case to call the department's sexual assault unit. >> a warning for stanford students is this morning. campus police say a man grabbed a student monday evening when she walked across campus and only let go when she tried to bite him. happened about 6:30. the suspect appeared to be in his fortes with brown hair, mustache and goatee and a thin build. if you have information, stanford police would like to hear from you. >> pg&e will continue to install smart meters in marin county despite the one-year moratorium on the devices. the vote comes after several protests including one last week in which a sheriff's deputy arrested two women in inverness. the city of fairfax has a similar ordinance. >> will direct the county sheriff to respond to 9-1-1 calls when someone's attempting to install a smart meter on their home. the police department can ask that person installing it to leave, leave the property. >> the utility is willing to work with customers who request delay in the new meter's installation. >> supervisors also decided to delay passing a plastic bag ban. the board will do a little more study on a plan on plastic bags and grocery checkout counters and charge 5 cents for paper bags. this after a group called save the plastic bag coalition argued the legislation would increase the use of paper bags and hurt the environment. supervisors disagree and say they'll put off considering the matter until later this month so a review can be done. the sunshine and warmth yesterday afternoon, i think we're going to get that later today. >> and several days to come. we'll check with mike anyway. (laughter) >> he's right there! >> and then as recess was called, daily's exit. >> we will recess. >> i acted with righteous indignation. basically i've served for ten years as the whip in the progressive political camp and tonight i whipped some ass. >> amy hollyfield reporting. after all that the decision on what the current board decides do on friday may not matter. daily and three other supervisors will be replaced by newly elected members who will be sworn in on saturday and the choice for interim mayor will still need approval for that new board. >> same sex marriage may resume sooner than anyone expected. the court of appeal needs an opinion from the california supreme court whether the sponsors of proposition 8 have a legal right to appeal in court. in august a san francisco judge struck down the voter-approved ban on same sex marriage as a violation of gay california civil rights. the group that put prop 8 on the ballot stepped in after state officials refused to defend the measure. they said if supporters are ineligible to appeal it could end the case and clear the way for same sex marriage to resume. >> residents are going to discuss how to spend roughly $380,000 in donations of that poured in since the pg&e gas pipeline explosion and fire. it's been nearly four months since the september 9th disaster killed eight people and destroyed 38 homes. our media partner, the san jose mercury reports some residents who learned the money hadn't been distributed claim it should have been given to advisors long ago. it will be considered by the city council when it meets again next tuesday. >> two megamillions ticket hold he recalls may not show up for work today. a ticket sold in washington state and another in idaho matched all six numbers and will split the $350 million jackpot. it's the fourth largest lottery jackpot in u.s. history. people lined up all day yesterday to buy tickets in the 49 states where the game is played including california. lottery officials say ten people here in california matched five numbers. and that means they'll get a payout of about $250,000 each. so here are the winning numbers: 4, 8, 15, 25, 47, and the megaball 42. >> you're giving advice not to rip up your ticket but you ripped up yours. >> we looked like a hundred times, right! not exaggeration. got two numbers, not even a megaso it's a big zero. >> but it's a sunny day not to have any money. right, mike? >> yeah! >> the sunshine is free. it's a -- who wants that money anyway? really, did you just rip it up? the san francisco palace of the fine arts, a swan named blanch is back in the landmark lagoon two months after the city removed her for her own safety. vandals killed blanch's sister in november. blanch spent some time in point reyes with blue boy and bela. they joined branch at the fine arts. >> the oakland raiders have decided not to extend tom cable's contract despite the best record since 2003. most of the players wanted him back next season. he took over two and a half years ago. he endured ups and downs. one of the downs assault claims from one of his assistants last year. he did bring respectability to the team leading the raiders to 8-8 record and 6-0 record in the division. al davis made the move because he believes his success is due to offensive coordinator hue jackson expected to be named the new head coach. the niners made it official announcing the hiring of trent ball beingy. he was going to be a nationwide hunt but turns out he didn't go very far. he was working as the team's vice president of players personnel. and number two, finding a new head coach. >> meantime you got your eyes open inland. you can barely tell because it's so foggy. >> the other problem, you can't see black ice, either. a few high clouds on -- what do we have, sutro tower -- i'm sorry, mount tamalpais. we haven't seen that in a long time. high clouds. that's going to be one of the main differences between yesterday and today. let's talk about those temperatures. santa rosa, napa, 33 degrees. fairfield 30, concord 32 and livermore 30. that's where we have quarter mile visibility. that would be the best area for black ice to develop right now. temperatures around the bay, mountain view, 40. san francisco 44. everybody else upper 30s. half moon bay 45. monterey bay and inland, near 40. gilroy a frosty 32 degrees. highlights for this forecast cycle, sunshine, we'll have that and seasonably cool temperatures today. also a light breeze. looks like we have more haze hanging around than yesterday. bay area air quality district wants you to not burn wood if you can. they haven't put a spare the air out but they may have to if the pollution continues to build. valley freezing fog. forms again tonight and a week-long weather pattern that remains dry. as far as temperatures compared to average, 3 degrees cooler in livermore and san francisco. napa and redwood city right on. 1 degree warmer in san jose. sunset at 5:05. you can see the fog hanging around the east bay, especially the farther to the east you go near the central valley. that's why we have low 50s brentwood and pittsburgh. mid-50s with sunshine and a few high clouds on the east bay shore. down in the south bay temperatures upper 50s, 57 to 58. mid to upper 50s on the peninsula today. up along the coast, mid-50s and that will include downtown and south san francisco. temperatures low to mid-50s through the north bay valley and also at the beaches to 49 clear lake. around the monterey bay and inland, temperatures on the warmest side. upper 50s to low 60. everybody in the 30s tonight except napa 29 and san francisco at 42. high pressure builds over from san francisco to bay area even to the storm track well to the north where it remains all seven days of our forecast. we still deal with fog and the possibility of freezing fog tomorrow morning and friday morning but not through the weekend. sunshine will mix with afternoon clouds and temperatures low to mid-50s. another beautiful picture out of hidden valley lake. this is daisy the snow dog. snowmen, snowdog. stuffy dog? no, that's snow. >> and it's a dalmatian. >> isn't it cool!
