Purchase our home here Morkie about a year ago a little over a year ago and the 1st thing we purchased was the Nest thermostat because we wanted to save some money we want to control the temperature from our phone you know we're at work you know can have an AC set at a at a lower temperature higher temperature and you know Laura once we get home except your advisers. And it kind of learns you're kind of learned your. Your behavior like when you're home when you're not home when you're coming home so it's just temperature to you know what you like that was our 1st purchase and that's you know what didn't and I don't know maybe you have better luck with yours but some of the ones in my home it's like they do you know but then they don't know because I come in and it's like it's like 80 degrees and I'm like Ok What part of that so I end up I don't know if it's time to you but I end up having to like wipe out the schedules and then restart it every once in a while so I would say you have an s. Smart thermostat and then that was the 1st thing that we had at the doorbell Ok So obviously that's the camera that lets you know when there's motion except when you're not home when you're home and the last thing we had it was a camera and the camera was. Put in our like our main hallway so if there was any activity at our house it's going to capture if there is a motion we're now home it's going to tell us there's motion. If I'm not home and I don't want to see what's going on Elm I can just turn into the camera you can look you can listen you know if somebody is in your house you know the kids you want to hear what kids are talking about you can listen you know you can see them. So that's kind of the main reason why you know we got it and. Probably about 4 weeks ago now. I got a text message from my wife and she says Hey I just got home did you turn the temperature up to 90 degrees and I said no it's. You know what I do have for. It's 80 degrees outside you know so I do it. So she said Ok she thought it was a glitch so she turned it off and then I'd say maybe 5 minutes later she heard voices coming from the camera but she couldn't really make out what it was saying because obviously there's T.V.'s on in the house there's lots of other noise and those are to hear what exactly was being said so she sent me another text message and she thought like at this point I was cranking or maybe goofing around with prank her. And. All And so then she quieted everything down quiet t.v. Close the windows so she can hear and at that point it stopped. Once again the temperature rose again maybe 1015 minutes later turn it down again and then she heard voices and at this time she could make out with a voice they're standing there just pretty much just saying talking to or saying a. You know hello how are you. She does you know in a way that they have like that's enough to freak somebody out for sure there was like it was for sure like out of a movie at that point she immediately on plugged in the camera smart on the sheet she employed the camera because at this point it's obvious that somebody was listening and somebody was watching or. So. After he had See called me in tell me what's going on so I told her I meet Eliseo will call nest you know something's wrong is obviously wrong when it's necessary call it will she call. Then the person that he got another and all the support person and a lot of his laughed and said Tell me again so it was obviously some that they have not encountered before oh no no no they have encountered this a lot they have I mean further Yeah I mean. Let me let me tell you there's a website and if you want to get kind of freaked out it's show day and I s h o d a. And what it is it's it's people some people refer to it as the dark Google. And what it does is shows you every internet connected device whether it's a camera a doorbell a power plant a traffic light whatever it may be that is not secure and then you can go in and take control of the device right right. So so so probably you know you maybe your camera was listed there right and the next thermostat was listed there and they were able to get into that as most the time it's like I don't know if you heard it was probably about me was beginning part of this year then another family was sitting around and out of their nest camera came in they were in Washington d.c. And the next camera said that North Korea has launched their nuclear missiles remember. I mean at this point so that you know the next support they walked there through how to you know reset the password on the Net You know so they would reset the password to sort of a 2 step verification. So at this point we think everything's good guys like the others and there's no way that anybody can control or didn't to or watch or listen at this point so everything was fine and I'd say maybe about 4 hours later the temperature went back up to 90 again and at this point maybe 2. 20 minutes after that we turned it off 20 minutes at that and now at this point they're there playing the vulgar airplane vulgar music. As you said all this that they did after we did holidays through nest they did not say after that. At this point we disconnected the camera and we faced it up toward the ceiling once again and we tried to call now as at this point they're close so then I start I got on Google so I saw Google and I'm like oh. Somehow someway somebody got into our nest system and attacked so the next day. We did talk to nest and this is only because that mean I reached out to me because and though somebody who works for the local news station here and they ran a story on it and then. Their p.r. Reaches out to me and long story short you know they they never really do anything they said pretty much they blamed it on me they said that your internet connection your firewall is not strong enough. My thing is you would think that the you know if even if it wasn't I mean I'm not i t savvy but you think if it wasn't that their devices you think that they should have a responsibility that there's advice have kind of security along with them to protect their you know user I mean you would think right they don't. I mean just I mean with your car you can see belts. And you know with any type of internet connection that's a problem with with this Internet of things right now is that there's no security standards and then there's no protocol that says you know this is a camera and comes with a default username and password you have to set up 2 factor authentication so that like you said you get the steps in there. And have you had any other incidents. Later that night you know we disconnected everything that we woke up my wife wakes me up at 3 in the morning worse or sweating literally we've had no Again it happened again. At this point she disconnected. Thermostat from the phone so now we've got it we I mean we still have we don't have the camera of the house yet we want to get more secure with our Internet connection.
