Thank you very much on have a happy Father's Day 415-808-0810 What's go to partition Patricia going from the bottom Trisha welcome to k. I go here this evening I watched something really really chew on the a.b.c. World News with David mirror in the last segment he interviewed children and asked them what important work day is happening this weekend and the young children were very animated knew it was Father's Day jumping up and down describing their fathers and then as the last part of the segment which camera goes to a group of teenagers in New York City and he asks them what's happening this weekend and there was a silence they all stood there somebody one of the boys said Is it an anniversary and nobody could get it finding an adult walking by said it was Father's Day with these kids who are attending a music school in New York and forget the name of that obviously very talented children and they did a little harmony at the end wishing. For a just very very. Very cute segment and for my own father I remember many things about him but when I was 4 in 1949 I remember he asked me one day we want to be when you grow but throw up and I said I want to be a nurse and he leaned over patted my arm he said You be the doctor. Art let's go to a Jonathan Jonathan is I 5 Jonathan welcome to k.g. Gone gone great. Awesome I'm I'm happy to be talking with you because as a kid I live in the Columbia River Gorge and at night I used to tune in the radio and when the radio waves were right. I would listen to key Geo all the way up even that far and so it's kind of fun to be able to call and talk to you and Happy Father's Day Well man I said I was delighted in those days to spend the night with you so to speak. Well this was a long time ago I don't even know if you were you know you were if you had a show but 'd because I'm pretty long in the tooth these days I'm over 60 so my favorite t.v. Father is Herman Munster Curtis. Now what was it about Herman Munster that you like so much Well I'll tell you he was I guess I don't know if deeply flawed is necessarily the term but. He was a good guy with all of his faults being a Frankenstein monster and the thing I liked about him is he tried really really hard to make his his whole family feel normal and of course you know families normal anyway but but I just thought that was a really 'd good attribute. Of Herman you know I think you're right because when you say no family is normal You're right every family's unique and special but one of the great things was the Munsters were so abnormal and yet they had a normal family for themselves yeah yeah. Now a lot of beauty of the show Jonathan thank you I really appreciate that great Have a nice Father's Day to take care and you. Keep listening to k.g. . All right 41580808 you name it we'll try to come up with it and I have an e-mail here from Sibel who says Dear John growing up in Switzerland we only had a few handful of American shows as a kid I loved and loved as in caps family affair with Buffy Jody and Mr French but I completely forget them here. Don't you love it and this Mr French was the perfect of. Our rights civil happy to be able to help you remove that member I'm John Rother now we're doing this on Father's Day 80808 and we're here until 9 o'clock and we have many of you with requests but here's the kicker if you call with a request we have time to gear up the sound if we have it and if you want to email me we can do it we just did for civil and what we did for Michael we did for several others will come up with the sound because well we all know Father Knows Best. Or maybe maybe just for a day I'm John Ross with you right here. From San Jose you wanted the Addams Family. This one. There. To. Tell us why the Addams Family and why don't mess. Because my father was a very. Soon kind of guy and he was he was always busy but when he wanted to you were rolling around I mean just crazy he was Italia So a lot of stuff that 7 kids in my family and he could be very stern and regular and you know. What you were what you would think by the way but when when when the suit was it was on I remember Gomez blown out blown opinion to Dan or something and it was funnier and that that is kicking in my head. I love it and I appreciate it and I have to tell you I love the Addams family and I can tell you I very often tried that trick that Gomez had of kissing his wife Farai you know you go thanks so much I love it Happy Father's Day be is calling from work and be this is for you. Can you hear Ozzie and Harriet. Now yes. He's picking it up and. That's Ricky playing just right. Why Ozzie and Harriet my loved Ozzie and Harriet go ahead. Because back then it was. Family and that was a long time ago I do love their show you know it's great that you have that memory and I loved Ozzie and Harriet and the great thing was that Ricky and David were you know really important players in all of that and so I appreciate that and. If you have a favorite episode be you know not really I all I remember is just them as being just a wonderful family like most people like than. Be had a very happy Father's Day and thank you for calling appreciate it let's think about this this comes from cliff he says John my father passed away in 1905 of cancer when I was 11 very sorry about. But Cliff writes near the end of his life he was bedridden with rheumatoid arthritis but he was still walking with a cane I remember you'd walk to the Payless drugstore I was maybe 4 or 5 at the time he was walking back and still down the street a little bit and I was out in front and he waved for me to come and bring the shy kid I was I didn't I didn't he brought a little Tonka garbage truck for me I still have the truck writes Cliff and to this day I still feel lousy for not going and meeting him not because of the truck but because how much he must have felt when I didn't come sorry for the long email it's funny the things that stick with you and it's true things to stick with you things that you remember about your father on Father's Day Karen what do we do next Karen's telling me exactly what sound we have we have well just Ok I was funny as you said that let's go we're going to go to Philip who was calling from. Toddy and Philip Your favorite was. Bachelor Father with Glen Ford the wonderful actor All right listen to this because we had it hurted Oh well. I mean it's a grand thing you know my mom today I feel like our days don't have bank merger don't worry you made why you wanted to be blamed lawyer I did all right I did sound you know. Ballots you come back and say broken t.v. Didn't that you know they didn't even the minute. Oh where did I find out where did I man what's going on here tell me he didn't just leave. You only one not. Why not feed me intravenously go much faster get him let's get the nice cool as to only your hunger for education is likely to get me into gesturing with the line because now you know it's funny when you hear there and Philip I have warm memories of that as well yes he was a happy Father's Day to all the dads out there all the dads that I know try to make their children's lives better in many small ways and he was a good father because he tried to do that and get a lot of money so he could always riveting the situation and make everybody happy you know let's remember you can't always all the problem with money but I'll tell you what my pediatrician Dr John Peel of loss of memory used to say you can never give enough love that's for sure All right our appreciate happy Well there's a job good thank you and it's true you know I my children will tell you that I always tell them I love them I have I tell them that constantly and it's not because they don't know it and it's not because they don't feel it it's because I want them to remember when I'm no longer with them the words from their dad I love you. Karen what's next. It's going to tumble. Like this. You as you get ready here it is Leave It to Beaver. Leave It to Beaver and I'm one of my favorites and I feel if I did my parents divorced when I was 6 years old it would be raised by so my 3 year old sister. It's great and you know that that the Beav is still alive he just had his 71st birthday and he is because the rumors that he died in the Vietnam War stuff no no he is still alive. And it's wonderful to know that he is now you had another favor too didn't you know Father Knows Best Ok Now Karen if we are young Yeah Karen's going to gear that up you know we do one of the time but here it comes just for you know father or know best here it is. Their dad in a long time. You remember what he called his younger daughter. Kitten . Yeah yeah. But it's great you know I love these kind of shows and I will tell you I don't know if my cousin Peter's listen and I but there is evidently a station on the. Which is you know part of many stations which does all the stuff from the 1950 s. And he loves this stuff and sort of what I'm all right I played I had spent 6 nights are my pleasure and I have a very happy Father's Day We'll do it my 5 year old grandson Oh that's even better . I can't wait to be a grandparent Oh oh you can tell right now but write it enjoy enjoy sir enjoy 415-808-0810 of course because this is a team effort I'm going to ask Karen which one we should go to next from Television City in Hollywood. Are you listening. Tell us what you liked about good times. In a very fact that I watched all of those other programs that everyone has named and when we had a black family on television with John Amos. Esther Rhodes Jimmy Walker and so forth and it was great times it made everyone in my community gathered around the television because we had an example of a father in the family and it was Jane that's wonderful and you know you're right it's a curious thing as a kid. That you look for people on t.v. Vette represent who you are and the fact that all of a sudden it wasn't just a white family but it was a diverse family of different ethnic backgrounds really made a difference and I think your huge difference it made a huge difference and I must say this about that before we lost Bill Cosby to his. Worst behavior. Bill Cosby Show was really very good with a father and a mother who were representative of a family with professionals and their children how he interacted with his children before we he fell from grace and. John. Amos he had to leave the show because they would not make him more of. A blue collar worker and always looking for a job but at Anya's and that's what I wanted to say with all of those other programs I watched I was able to see good times thank you so much a great call I'm so glad you're listening thank you and Happy Father's Day Thank you thank you by the way Rick e-mails for Bachelor Father was John Forsyth and of course I knew that I can hear it in my head John Forsyth and Bachelor Father so Rick thank you for filling in that memory loss gap 415808. Gregory this is for you. Regularly is calling of course from San Ramon and Gregory can I tell you one of my favorite memories of all the dinners out of town quite frequently and my kids were little the Bonanza ranch was an attraction was still there and I get my kids up early in the morning and I take them to Bonanza and we have a pancake breakfast and then we wander around and pay them for Goldie and for gold and you could actually see the ranch house which was up there and all I can tell you is it's one of my fondest memories of being with my children. That's right that's right that was a wonderful place it really was. Any way you particularly identified with any particular reason. Well the family was diverse I mean like we have now no no woman family for different reasons but each one of the sons was identified because they're different. Behaviors personalities characteristics he did a good job with each one yeah you're right it was really a a marvelous production and that's why it lasted all those years I remember people who would stay home especially to see. Absolute tremendous Hey thanks a 1000000 and I wish the ranch were still there and I could take my kids then that attraction to this day one of my great was when it closed. All right sir thank you so much wonderful Which one should we do next. For you. The course of Eddie's. Oh my God Bill Bixby was so great it was the seventy's and here you had a single man raising a child all the things going on in his life which girls who go out with and they had to get along with those little boy and it was just something new at the time to see a man raising a child by himself I have to say that time period was incredible because you also had all of the family with Carroll O'Connor as just absolutely amazing the son writing by Norman Lear both those 2 shows the courtship of that his father signified the new time in the seventy's where everything old was being thrown out new families and he was a mellow guy he was at a macho guy and trying to raise a boy it was this really stuck with me I got to tell you I think Bill Bixby was great in that role you know I liked him better and that role I did as the Hulk. You really hit on something because in those days of television we all watched the same programs and there was a unifying theme that brought us together and yes we don't have that impact of television today do we. We don't I mean I can member watching certain episodes of that urge Diahann Carroll enjoy or all of the family in the next day at school or work did you see Michael and what are you. Doing the talking about Nixon on the t.v. And commie bastards in one George Jefferson moved then a black man next door the neighbors I mean all of these issues came up it was just and everybody had watched it you know it's like when roots came on everybody watched it yeah I agree with you a 100 percent I think it's it's something we're missing in terms of that effect of gathering around the television and watching by the way I feel the same way about news because well the u.s. In the war Cronkite or Huntley and Brinkley or whether you listened to a.b.c. With Howard k. Smith or Peter Jennings. There was something that brought all of us together and I miss that day I do believe you're absolutely right all right listen thank you have a wonderful Father's Day However you're you're celebrating All right thank you as well thank you Thank you Celeste calling from Stanford 415-808-0810 all right I got to take a break I know I have to take a break I hate taking a break but when we come back we have people who've asked for Tony Soprano we've asked for people people want Mr Arnold from The Wonder Years we there are so many of you who have things you want to hear and we'll try to do it right here on the John Rothmann program on this wonderful Father's Day Eve on k g.
