Better honor. Well thank you for being here Mr John Roth and I appreciate it very much Listen we're not going to really talk about New Year's right you know specifically but I did get an e-mail that kind of sends us off on one of the things that we wanted to direct specifically. I really do need the news of a log and it comes to us from Valerie Valerie says hi Pat John Happy New Year. So glad the 2 of you're on tonight what's going on with Devon Nunez writing an exposé on corruption in the f.b.i. . What is he so frantically trying to hide Have you ever noticed how he won't look anyone in the eye he's up to no good just wonder how he is involved with the Russians and it is true that Newt is Devon Eunice so he had been under investigation there was an ethics inquiry which prevented him from being able to lead the House Intelligence Committees Russia probe so there had to be other people who took charge of it but now he's been cleared in that ethics inquiry and so he's asserting himself quite a bit in here in some ways that people are pretty angry about and one of the things that Devin Nunes says to his he is targeting Moller in the f.b.i. Is targeting their credibility he's targeting their objectivity and it seems as if he is one of those Republicans who really wants to see the Moller investigation brought down and Bob Mueller in particular taken out of that position a special prosecutor John and of course. Coincide with what many in Washington are saying is a coordinated Republican effort to shut down my house intelligence committee Yes Yes And the Democrats are say Remember we were talking about Jackie Spear when she was hearing the rumors about Trump was going to. Hire fire Moller which may actually be why he didn't I mean you know that becoming so public and people being so outraged and talking about what would happen in the aftermath may have done that but as she was talking about that she and Adam Schiff both were talking about their concerns about this investigation and how it appears that the Republicans on the committee are trying to shut this investigation down before it's actually completed its work and there are absolutely no hearings or witnesses that have been called by the House Intelligence Committee after well right now right now yeah amat raises a whole series of concerns. I want you to know that we are disturbed for months Democrats have kept an unofficial count of the ways they say Dennis Dennis worked behind the scenes during the time he was under investigation to stymie the House Intelligence Committees Russia program he was still doing things there because he had to sign off on the subpoenas or something right that's right and now we know that requests for subpoenas to obtain additional testimony from key figures the Democrats want to hear from all they're not going to because no this will not issue those subpoenas so essentially it's just interesting stop and think about this investigation it goes along a variety of tracks it is the House Committee which now seems to be stymied it is the Senate committee which also is having issues and it is the independent counsel or special counsel Mr Moore and we know that the key Republicans on the House Judy House committee the Intelligence Committee have been obstructing because they keep blasting more right and as a matter of fact one of the things that Nunez has said Devan us has said is that he's going to convene a group of intelligence. Committee Republicans to draft a likely report on corruption among the investigators that are working on this investigation for a special counsel Robert Muller which should be fascinating I mean it's so far everything that I've seen has to do with it doesn't have to do with any proof that they've done anything specifically to taint the investigation there is one thing which is strong guy's name Strock strong. You know the so there was the text messaging between him and the attorney which happened before he became part of this investigation where he obviously didn't like. Donald Trump Is that Ok he was he was taken office soon is that became clear that that existed Robert Mueller removed him from the investigation the only other thing I've seen John is it appears that they don't think Democrats should be part of the investigatory Tade so that if there are people who are working on the mall or investigation who have who supported Hillary Clinton who voted for Democrats who contributed to Democratic causes who went to Hillary Clinton celebration or a victory party she didn't she was not victorious but but had it anticipated that she would be victorious that automatically disqualifies them from being able to participate in an investigation and I'm telling you that's one of the Corky's things I've ever heard not only that you have to realize that none of us who is chairman of this committee has said and I quote him directly we have no evidence of Russia collusion between the Trump campaign. Let me explain to you I don't know the 3rd any evidence but I know that there is no evidence that there is no evidence make that a double negative because I want people understand what the Republicans appear to be doing whether it's of the behest of the White House or a defensive action on their own part is to shut. Down this investigation and if they can shut it down in the house and it's limited in the Senate we're hearing attacks now on Dianne Feinstein who said she thinks there is obstruction of justice and this morning there was an attack on one of the talk shows saying well there's no evidence of obstruction of justice that she she is going much too fast all I can tell you is there is a it's time for there to be real conclusions when the results of the investigation are complete and we don't have any of that and they're no leaks there are no longer there and they are keeping really mom on this so we have no idea what's going to come now look here's something that I find perplexing you know Donald Trump in that 30 minute interview that he gave to The New York Times I can't remember the number of times I think it was 1000 times he mentioned the word collusion or what is collusion actually mean the definition according to Merriam Webster is a secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose or it could be acting in collusion with the enemy now when you talk about Russians who have obtained have hacked into Hillary Clinton's e-mails they also had information on Donald Trump remember but they hacked into Hillary's emails and then they were working in concert with people who were on the Trump campaign in order to get these things released and they released them at the most opportune time I mean that in and of itself certainly smells like collusion and John we were talking earlier about. Papadopoulos the Greek guy that he is the person who sort of his at the root of the Russian investigation as it pertains to the f.b.i. Is right and this was a story that was big on Friday but remember it's the weekend of New Years when through the holidays something sort of faded but during a night of heavy drinking the New York Times report an upscale London bar in May of 2016. On the next generation a 10. Good afternoon I'm Patterson John Robyn is here in studio with me on this New Year's Eve and we were before we went into the break we were talking about Papadopoulos we were talking about this George Papadopoulos is a foreign policy advisor to or he was a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign and he was having drinks he was at a bar with Australia's top diplomat in Britain and he revealed to him I guess he had had too much to drink that he had been told about 3 weeks earlier by Moscow that Moscow had thousands of e-mails that would embarrass Hillary Clinton that were apparently stolen in an effort to damage her campaign John Young I mean this is really quite stunning because it means that before the dossier became an issue that there was awareness that Russia was involved in the campaign now exactly how much Papadopoulos said that night at the Kensington wine rooms with the Australian whose name is Alexander Downer d. O. N. e r We don't know exactly but 2 months later when the leak Democratic e-mails began appearing online the New York Times reports Australian officials passed the information about Mr Papadopoulos to their American counterparts and by the way that is according to the York Times to 4 current and former American and foreign officials who would direct knowledge of the Australians role so there was awareness now let me ask you Pat. If that is inclusion what is Well exactly and the thing that's interesting too as you start following these different tentacles what you find is that there were different entities and this is one of the things that's brought up so brilliantly in the book collusion that we're hopefully going to be interviewing the author of that book there were different tentacles who had become aware or were getting whiffs that there was something going on between the Trump campaign and Russia and these were not people in Ca in connection with one another and they were getting this information from different sources different avenues and then as one would contact another they'd realize that they it was much the same information that they were giving from another position and that's one of the reasons John with all these different places coming together with such similar information and some of the allegations being extremely bad Christopher Steele the former m I 6 operative he points out that in his investigation his greatest concern was not the p.-p. Story his greatest concern had to do with Russia cultivating Robert Donald Trump about Fox beginning about 5 years prior to him becoming a presidential candidate and that they seemed to be successful making real headway and he had all sorts of information on this you really need to read about this it's a it's absolutely incredible So this is why I believe that the results of the Mahler investigation are not going to be favorable to Donald Trump whatsoever I think that members of his administration are going to be brought down and his family and him I mean I think now you know people tend to protect yourself you put out your intermediaries there like a mafia don does I get that what I don't think he can protect himself from are the financial things that he has said Muller has no business looking into that that would owe. Her step his mandate but I think those things are intimately connected to the reasons Russia was able to cultivate him because it has to do with these allegations of money laundering and I mean money laundering of massive sums of money and we have to point out it was not as Mr Trump and many Republicans are alleging a dossier compiled by a former British spy hired by Iraq public and not by the Democrats initially Instead it was 1st hand information from Australia right and there is more in the New York Times story which says that interviews and previously undisclosed documents show that Mr Papadopoulos played a critical role in this drama and you know what he wasn't a coffee boy he was saying it was not of course he was just he wasn't just running for coffee he wasn't this mum level nobody It turns out this is a guy who ended up playing a critical role and wait there's one more thing that his connection to Jeff Sessions. And we know that he advised sessions at a meeting and sessions dismissed the idea of a meeting with Trump and the Russians but but it's very clear that Mr Papadopoulos said at a meeting where sessions was present and he had contact the set of a meeting between Mr Trump and Mr Putin and Donald Trump was in the room and we know because we've watched the video right the Trump listened intently but apparently deferred to Jeff Sessions right then a senator from Alabama now Mr Sessions now the attorney general did not initially reveal that discussion to Congress right because he said he didn't remember it just didn't remember it right but recently the attorney general had to push back against Mr Papadopoulos at least partly because he didn't want someone well it's on tape for heaven's sake right exactly 8810 is our telephone number 808-0810 Let's go to the phones George is calling from San Leandro Joe which I welcome to the patent John go ahead i Pad We're on Happy New Year Happy New Year to year to George. Because the Republicans are power now in the House and the Senate and everywhere else in the executives they don't want to remove the old fart at this time so the only hope we think I think is New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman who has been tremendously effective in one in getting the settlements from the university case he got 25000000 dollars He also stopped from foundation for soliciting in New York state he also has other evidence if the if they are if the truck administration is effective in. Downplaying Robert Muller's investigation and they can't will the Republicans refuse to move on that I think the way to go is Eric Schneiderman and also Eric Schneiderman looks like a good candidate for the Democrats for. Democratic candidate in 2000 plenty I don't think run for president but if Andrew Cuomo does not run for reelection as governor and there's a lot of speculation about that starter might write might run but as Pat and I were to like the work he's doing now we were pointing out that Donald Trump dismisses Schneiderman as what is he calling Pat. Just I mean. I never hear it in any general in New York history that he called and also stupid he quotes and yet he said he's a lightweight a total loser nation's worst attorney general dopey and he tweeted that Eric Schneiderman wears Revlon I lying or his his Iowa. Clock coma Any also said that he that Schneiderman needs to take a drug test because the attorney general cannot be a toke head and you understand Schneiderman has 100 legal cases pending against Trump and not only that there is an investigation in New York about the Trump family finances not on the federal level right but in New York and remember that a grand jury in New York can indict the president can't pardon anybody for state indictment Yeah and we know that's going to happen so George I agree with you that that's one of the places where we're going to see some very serious action but I am not about to lose faith in the Mahler investigation I think there's too much going on I think there's too much to be revealed to think that Muller could possibly come back and say there's no there there we'll be right back I'm Pat Thurston John Rothmann here in studio with me you can join us on the phone if you'd like at 8810 or e-mail us my e-mail address is Pat. Good afternoon I'm happier Stan you know we're talking about Papadopoulos George Papadopoulos here John and I do want to mention is that Ok so popular in the bar with the Australian diplomat he tells the diplomat about information that he had received from high level Russian officials about dirt they have on Hillary Clinton and that they have that dirt in order to hurt her in the election which of course would help Donald Trump but that's that's kind of the point. And once the information so so once things started coming out and the Australian revealed the information to the f.b.i. The f.b.i. Opened an investigation now that investigation at the time was one of their most closely guarded secret senior agents didn't even discuss it at the daily morning briefing and this is usually where officials speak freely about highly sensitive operations besides the information from the Australians the investigation was also propelled by intelligence from other friendly governments including the British and the Dutch There was another trip to Moscow that was by Carter page that one also raised concerns at the f.b.i. So with all these various strands coming in they had to debate how aggressively to investigate the campaign's Russia's Russian ties now one of the things that we find out as we get deeper and deeper into what was going on is the that the f.b.i. Thought there was a big conundrum here they're getting more information an initially it was bits and pieces but as their information started. Becoming much more serious the information that was coming in they had to make a decision as to whether or not they were going to reveal that information to the public to the various parties to make sure that people understood that this guy was compromised in doing so they would have because he was already now the nominee in doing so they would have impacted a presidential election and that was something they wanted to avoid doing at all cost and so that's that was the the. The whole. I said Conundrum before and that's I think that's the right word that the f.b.i. Was having to deal with at the time but they got more they got so much ask you Pat if that's the case yes we're in the world is Devon and the House Intelligence Committee Yeah they must be reading the same information and you are right and you know when steel and fusion g.p.s. Had hired Steele's organization or business to you know begin gathering information on Donald Trump and they came up with a whole dossier when he got the dossier he was so concerned and this was a guy who as a British intelligence agent had worked with American intelligence on a number of operations he was the guy who was the foremost agent gathering information on 5 or fifo however you pronounce it the whole the soccer thing he was the one who brought all that to a head he got all that information so he was well respected in all intelligence circles across the globe and so he began contacting people within the f.b.i. He began contact he contacted Harry Reid he contacted I can remember who it was within the Republican party contacted some of someone within the Republican Party Harry Reid made an inquiry to James Komi and said Why are you sitting on this information why aren't you going full bore with this investigation this is really serious and I never heard back and then Harry Reid contacted James Komi again and he was more determined in that inquiry and yet the whole thing comes down to there was a presidential election that was almost happening and what they did not want was to impact that presidential election and then you have to ask the question John then why did he say what he said about them reopening the investigation to Hillary's e-mails I mean all of these things are obvious questions now I want to be clear I am not presuming guilt neither is Pat but we are saying that there are real issues here. And the fact that this was so involved f.b.i. Officials were reluctant to do $1016.00 to publicly pursue it because they didn't want to be involved in an election year influencing election and in the end of course we now know that what Papadopoulos did was the instigator and I want to make a quick comment about the dossier I've never read the dossier but what we do know is that when someone does opposition research and I've done it not everything you compile is legitimate a lot of it's rumor and innuendo right and Steele has admitted that he has indicated that this was wrong intelligence and he thought that American officials should pick up the investigation and see how much of this could be verified and he himself has said he believes 70 to 90 percent of what the Da contains is true but the point being though we are told in the president keeps saying this the whole thing is a fake and the Democrats are saying well you know let's take a look at it and my point is I don't know what's fake and what's real what I do know is every day there is a new revelation every day there is something that is revealed and Donald Trump saying well there was no collusion and by the way this interview in The New York Times was to me absolutely scandalous because what he does it basically is to say that. None of this is true by the way according to Donald Trump Dianne Feinstein our own senator from California appeared on a television program saying there was no collusion between his campaign and the election Mrs Feinstein answered that she hadn't seen evidence of collusion not that the evidence showed no collusion right there she was very clear she said it's an open question because there's no proof yet that it happened and I think the proof of life we come with Mr Miller's investigation the point is he well you know the president also said that the Russian story is a hoax made up by the Democrats as an excuse for losing the election but right that isn't true now the United States government sound of the arm or before Donald Trump was elected right and so and remember Brooke Obama formally accused the Russian government in October of 2016 of trying to interfere so we know that this is a real issue and I want to remind everybody of one of the things you remember when the Group of 20 met in September of 2016 in China Barack Obama told President Vladimir Putin to cut it out and John Brennan the former CIA director said he also warned his Russian counterpart in a phone call that August so when you look at this and you put it together cumulatively there is a lot here and I am horrified that the Republicans in the House of Representatives are not pursuing this if they don't want to get in the bottom of it to get to the truth because if they don't then they're abetting then they're part of the problem then they're part of what went wrong let's get some phone calls John 808810 is the telephone number 808-0810 let's talk to our Judge Death in San Jose Gandhi's Hi welcome to k.g. Our your own patent John go ahead. But a lot of have to look up you have to do that. Quickly in the end but all our men don't walk up to make. The satellite. Something big something it go walk out of there then they. Need to be here that it will get out. I think what's happening is that you're getting a sense of it because the Republican Intelligence Committee in the House wants to shut down the investigation the Senate Intelligence Committee is not prepared to go forward evidently and you've got Mr Moore being attacked constantly by the Republican constantly and to the point that Donald Trump has had a puppy restate I'm not going to fire Mr Miller but you and I both know. But the president also said in his New York Times interview that he is in charge of the Justice Department essentially saying and I have to say this but we heard his attorney John Dowd say the same thing that the president is above the law and that that line in the New York Times interview Friday just blew me away because the president isn't in charge the Justice Department is not the president's private attorney and I think that's a very important point to make Yeah you know that's one of the most fundamental things about this country the United States of America that even though we do have an executive and an a chief executive and an executive branch and that the Department of Justice is under the executive branch one of the most important precepts is that no man in this country is above the law we don't have monarchs we don't have dictators every person is subject to the law and so for the president to to make these assertions is it is incredibly disturbing and it's I think it's even worse than Nixon when he did the frost interview we've got to take a break we'll come back a lot more that we're going to discuss and of course we'd love to get you on the line with us 88810 is the number 808-0810 more of your phone calls coming up I'm Pat Thurston he's John Rothmann this is. If there is no conceit. In this coming year I'm going to be discreet. Have those slickers playing music soft and sweet. I resolved to treat Tchaikovsky tenderly and set a 2nd movement off with t.n.t. . Just. A good half to get their cinch on Robin here in studio with me on this New Year's Eve and I credit the the wonderful sound you're hearing for New Years Eve my former producer the late Roger Dorfman has these little holiday discs he put together for me years ago and I brought it in tonight and so of those you remember this is really not only a tribute to a new year but a tribute to Roger who stuff is so good yeah it's pretty terrific listen we're talking about right now we're talking about down to I'll tell you what I'd like to get into and we'll probably start doing this in the next hour is talking about the things that have happened over the year that you recall concerning the trumpet ministration try to avoid what happened during the campaign and only focus on what happened from January 1st to December 31st this year so whatever are a 20th. You know I want the whole year I want to hold Yes So even if it's just before the end I want to let that clear can I just throw in one more thing I talk about some things but you know what I'm from set in the New York Times interview I've got some of those in front of me do tell I'm going to quote you for you so infuriated me he said this I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department but for purposes of hopefully thinking I'm going to be treated fairly I've stayed on involved with this particular matter really amazing. I want to really you know I'm so outraged by that and anybody who has lived through what we went through with Nixon what we went through frankly with Ronald Reagan what we want through with we have. This is just outrageous on its face. But that's the thing that so infuriating about this president John is the things that comes out of his mouth it just feels as if he thinks that as long as he says it and then he says it again and again and again that it's going to be believed I mean don't forget that he has now flip flopped on the birth or thing again he now once again is in the camp of saying that Barack Obama is not a citizen of the United States that he wasn't born in the United States that he was ineligible to run for anything with a tape of his voice he's saying no but Martin just sent me an e-mail is collusion great or small proof of obstruction of justice by definition you and patter colluding to build an obstruction of justice case when perhaps none exists or scrutiny during the past administration been thorough you would have found the same level of impropriety this is Regards and happy new year for Mark Mark if you were a regular Mr you know how critical I was of many things Barack Obama did had no problem doing it but what Barack Obama did is nothing compared to the cases being built here and a collusion is a secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose I don't think John and I are being secretive and we're also bringing out factual information I mean we jump to our conclusions we have conclusions we you know all of us are are smart individuals we think about things we receive certain bits of information and we are able to conclude things or believe certain things about them hopefully that's what all human thinking human beings do but we're not doing it as a secret ingredient and there is nothing illegal or deceitful about what we're doing we're pretty above board nor is it collusion this is an attempt to analyze I mean you could say that everything always investigations that are collusion and that that's not the point here. Absolutely correct and I think that when Donald Trump says it's about Robert Miller It doesn't bother me because I hope he's going to be fair I think he's going to be fair there's been no collusion and I think he's going to be fair the important thing now is that the president is at least saying but more proceed with his investigation so far and that yet but that to me is a critical point and I hope that Muller's investigation produces a report Hey John I was reading a couple days ago that sources I'm not sure who the sources are but there are sources indicating that Trump's legal team is already strategizing compiling how they're going to go about destroying Michael Flynn's character if he cooperates too much with the special counsel and you know that Michael Flynn's rather. Appealed to the president I didn't know who pardon yes General Flynn and that is another serious issue. So we have to watch that because we know now that General Flynn is cooperating right and the question is how much is he covered and Papadopoulos is cooperating and the question is rating when what happens as these people begin to give information we don't know about and maybe I have to be fair here maybe Donald Trump will be completely exonerated Yeah maybe I think that's a chance of that is slim to none but maybe you know stranger things have happened maybe at some point in the universe also during this interview he said the claims against Paul manna for it a cured many years ago before I ever heard of him which is kind of important they have her they met in 2011 manna for join the Trump campaign in 2016 he was promoted to campaign campaign chairman and chief strategist that may he was ousted in August but he was accused of serving as an unregistered agent of Ukraine from at least 2006 to 2015 that he was laundering payments from 2006 to 2016 and making false statements to investigators from November of 2016 to February of 2017 so this is just flat out not true now man a Ford is not somebody cooperating in the investigation and man a fort it seems to me is probably the one who is most likely to face a whole lot of time in a federal penitentiary and we should be fair again I think it's really important there are things that matter for it did before he was involved would trump right but the interesting thing is I remember Donald Trump saying he only hired the best people. And I was intrigued. One 3rd of his White House staff is turned over says January 20th right exactly only hires the best people yeah right and did you hear that guy who was the nominee of the judicial nominee. Let's go to the phones Rob is calling in Fairfax Hey rather welcome to k.g. You're on the pattern John go ahead the New Year rob the New Year Rama. John Happy New Year to you guys I'm glad you're talking about an important subject but I have a different viewpoint which I want to screw us to you here my feeling is that the Democrats definitely have a real beef with President Trump but. Is misguided we should instead be talking about. Trying to persuade Donald Trump to you know on board fighting global warming and making peace with North Korea all the to all the energy there we're spending in trying to prove that he's including with Russia and getting himself elected. We're not focusing on issues that are going to file suit to survive with all due respect they are focused in Washington on a whole host of issues. You haven't been right now on the radio I haven't because you haven't you know what you're going to talk about global warming Pat and I just pulled up earlier today. The e-mail that the president sent out about global warming If there was a little global warming maybe the police wouldn't be so cold and and I don't buy it Rama I mean I don't think you ignore the things the criminal potential criminality of this president because you think that there are policy issues that need to be pursued 1st of all trumps on the right side of any of these policy issues 8810 is the telephone number I'm Pat Thurston he's John Rothmann this is k g l. a bed torched.
