New this morning a pedestrian was killed last night in Johnson County near the interstate 380 and 80 interchange. This is a live look at traffic there this morning right now, vehicles are moving without any trouble but last night it was a different story. Story. Right now, authorities dont know what the man was doing walking along the highway. At this point, no names have been released and its still under investigation. A marion man is dead this morning after being hit by a train in alburnett. Alburnett. The linn county sheriff says the 44yearold man was driving a pickup truck towing a flatbred trailer when he drove in front of a Freight Train sunday. Officials say th truck caught fire and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the truck his name is not being released until his family has been notified. Federal authorities are hoping to find a second data recorder recorderfrom a train crash in hoboken new jersey. They believe its under a collapsed section of the train stations. Roof. Investigators hope that recorder is functioning the first one they found was not. The recorders are suppose to track the trains speed and braking information. The trains engineer says he has person was killed when the commuter train collided into the station. After a long week here in cedar rapids things are starting to head back to normal and for parents and children that means heading back to school. School. Students in the Cedar Rapids CommunitySchool District are back in the classroom this morning for the first time in more than a week. The whole district was shut down last week while the city rising flood waters from the cedar river. The districts website says busses will try to run as close to the normal schedules as possible. Multiple br again after flood waters went down. Days ago every bridge in cedar rapids except for interstate 380 and highway 30 was shutdown causing major delays. This morning the first second third eighth and 12th avenue bridges are all open. At last check the citys website says the 16th avenue bridge is still closed this morning. If you use Public Transit in town it is also ready for riders this morning. All city buses were pulled off the were closed. Cedar rapids city transit will be running normal routes today. Businesses who used sandbags can drop them off at one of four sites today. Today. They will be open from 7 to 7 at least through friday. One of the main locations is the old Alliant Energy power plant between cargill and quaker oats. Next monday, october tenth, cit will start picking up sandbags from Properties Free of charge. Theyll continue pick ups for two weeks. Some cedar rapids residents are waking up in a red cross shelter for the last time this. Morning. The Cedar Hills Community Church shelter stayed open last night for anyone who still needed a place to stay. They close their doors today at one pm but will serve one more meal. I think the people that were here in the shelter have expressed their gratitude towards the church, and what weve done as a community because when we come into a community, we, in some ways become a part of that community community. The Saint Pauls United Methodist Church location closed sunday at noon. Since opening shelters in eastern iowa to help people affected by flood waters the red cross has had more than 600 overnight stays. The red cross is opening three Resource Centers in eastern iow. Iowa. Each center will offer flood cleanup kits and healthcare workers who help with any minor medical needs. Mental Health Professionals will also be available. The cedar river is back in its banks but people in palo are still drying out. Palo was one of the hardest hit communities in linn county and some are still out of their homes this morning. High waters flooded basements and garages which are now a preparing for the flood waters was an unsetteling reminder of 2008. In 2008 nobody was prepared we were told foot above the road it was 7 feet and it was a shock for everybody we didnt have as much time to prepare this time we had quite a bit more time to prepare and it was a lot less water15 water15and for palo residents still trying to get rid of sandbags they can be dropped off at the Community Center parking lot. An iowa state football great was arrested over just hours after he was honored during the cyclones Football Game against baylor. Baylor. Former running back troy davis was arrested for public intoxication early sunday morning. The 41yearold is scheduled to be inducted into the College Football hall of fame later this year. He was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy back in 1996. A 6 yearold boy in South Carolina died over the weekend. He was shot last week at his elementary school. School. A Community Service was held last night in townville, memory of jacob hall. His kindergarten class was going out to recess when police say a 14yearold boy opened fire.
