A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado located near marble rock, that is about 50 miles to the northwest of allison. That storm is moving east at 15 miles an hour. It has the potential to produce a tornado and leave ball sized hail. This storm is one to watch as it starts to move its way across Butler County. Again, the warning will be out until 6 15 p. M. Lets take a look at our velocity mode and well see if we can pinpoint where the rotation is. There you can see where the green is located. We be just to the northwest of there not too far away from scene, but there is some there. This is a doppler indicated tornado. We have no confirmation of anything on the ground but theyre a strong rotation there near marble rock. Thats the reason the Tornado Warning has been issued. The storm also has the potential to produce some large hail. We are going to go to our hail product and show you what we are looking at there and do a query on that. We will find that we have the potential for at least 2inch diameter hail. That will certainly do some damage. The way the storm is moving looks like it will head across Butler County, and maybe get up into floyd county before we start to see it weakened later on. The writing here we will give you a little bit of a fan and show you where the storm is expected to go. With charles city in the path, there is carville, nashville, chickasaw, plainfield, republic and the bond between now and 6 17 p. M. That is the cell we are concerned about it has a lot of lightning associated with it and a good hail quarry in there with some rotation. So if you can show the rainfall out some tremendous arounds of rain. We are looking out at the storm stayed at one location amounts that could be up to 5. 75 inches in one hours time. So obviously there is some tremendous downpours and that will produce the flash flooding threat weve been talking about. Up in northeastern iowa there will be the threat of flash pretty close to charles city as we go through the next 15 20 minutes. Once again we are in velocity mode rightparen, and you can see around marble rock is where we are most concerned. That would be the rotation associated with the developing tornado we are seeing on the actual radar site. Rebecca, are you able to see anything new back there . So we have not seen any reports, but i do want to say with this storm, when it was earlier to the west in Cerro Gordo County that it did produce upwards of 60 70 miles an hour winds we had some trees down the city of rockford the storm whether there is a tornado has a history of producing wing damage. Potentially large hail to on that hail core you can see you right around the wrong around marble rock is where that situation is located. Floyd county, where does that expire there . Floyd county 6 00 p. M. I am also seeing rainfall rates and floyd county have been 1. 5 hours of scene 2 inches 3 inches in northwest floyd so that could live down to northern Butler County as well. As far as other thunderstorms we will back the radar up just a little bit. You will see there is a cell to the northwest of this up around mason city. Otherwise, you take a look around the rest of northeastern iowa and there is nothing out there. This is just one lone cell. It is been a pretty prime are for development. And boy do we have a temperature contrast today. We talk about the temperatures that were in the 90s in parts of the southwest half of iowa while the 70s in the northeast. It is that instability that is creating our storm. It looks like it is moving east maybe east southeast across floyd and northern butler counties as we speak. We have a big temperature contrast as we see some of that instability. We can see we have tama and 73 and charles city, close to the storm. So thats really where we are seeing some instability being generated and that is going to keep the potential for these storms really going throughout the evening. We have a bit of a front which is backing the wins and that is creating the share necessary for the rotation in our storms. And looking at the velocity mode of play this is one that levels of the atmosphere as opposed to the surface but definitely strong storm up in the southern part of floyd county. Right now not too far away from marble rock. Hopefully this will go bit to the south of the charles city area which has a pretty good we have not seen any sort of reports or any confirmation once again we have that risk of large hail that could get up to pingpong size and still potential for strong winds that could do some damage. Brendan, would you go to the master there and take the lightning off . We could see a little bit of the poor there of the storm its an obvious hook there that i can see. But boy there is a nice hail core they are, that is for sure. Another thing id like you do is give me a look at the echo top and well see just how big the thunderstorm is. Im guessing its probably lease 50,000foot. There comes almost up to 60,000 feet, that is a very goodsized healthy thunderstorm, to say the least. This is also pretty strong for what we are talking the something you typically do not see this time of year. It is happening, we have the heat and humidity outside as everyone can feel it out there. Is generating enough for these storms. I want to take a look at what our tear is out there. Its right around 30 knots, which isnt really at what we would like to see for tornadoes. We typically like to see about 20 knots in the atmosphere and we have about 30 35 so it is not incredibly impressive, but still has so we will be waiting to see if theres anything that comes out of this. But at least for the moment there is no question that there is some large hail falling and probably some strong winds and to have had a history of producing winds of up to 70 miles an hour.
