Karen the signs of humnan trafficking can be hard to see and the victims of it can feel invisible. The Blue Campaign is a National Effort to draw attention to possible red flags. Today we heard from a trafficking survivor who hopes awarness can help others like her. Her. I was just scared of being in this man said hey lets go ill take you somewhere were they cant bring you back and i went for it and when we arrived i quickly figured out what was going to happen to me. Christi was 18 years old when she fell into the world of Human Trafficking in dubuque. Dubuque. They pray on the most vulnerable members of our Society Youth people that are kind of down and out and they offer them what looks like an opportunity for a better life and it turns out to be a real hell. Christi quickly knew she wanted help but was scared to reach outshe remembers an officer in tennessee who failed to see the signs signsi just remember standing there and crying and just praying that he would come back, and i think that was the worst moment of my traffic time. After many Law Enforcement encounters her silent cries for help were answered. Answered. He separated myself from my trafficker and he asked the questions and he showed that he cared and that he wanted to help and that it was going to be ok and i wasnt ever going to have to see that man ever again. Stories like christis make victims can hide in plain sight in many ways Human Trafficking is an invisible crime so if we can make the public aware of some of the signs the red flags, increase the trainnig for our local Law Enforcement we can do a better job of impacting the crime in our communities. Right now, lawmakers in the iowa senate are hearing from the states medicaid director on how prepared iowa is for privitizing the medicaid system. System. My colleague Scott Sanborn joins us now nowwith what theyre karen the plan to move iowas medicaid system from statecontrolled to forprofit last month. It was supposed to take effect january first, but after federal officials visited with patients, caregivers and state wasnt ready. That echoed the call of many who claimed the quick switch over brought more confusion than it did answers. Officials with the centers for medicare and Medicaid Services told state leaders their plan would be delayed until march first providing certain conditions be met. Those conditions include patients having a means for their questions to be answered and the program having proper state oversight. Recent reports suggest the state would have to hire about 134 people to handle that oversight. And that would cost the state about 17million dollars. But iowas medicaid director says communication with patients is one of the biggest things federal officials wanted taken care of. She said today the state is holding communication training for the new managed care organizations. Communication plan there has been a series of informational lettters out to providors and weve also been developing scripts that align in all of our call centers to make sure all the information is clear. And are soon to be launching some social media platforms for Iowa Health Link that have not been laucnhed before but shortly as well. Well. State senator liz mathis responded by saying while m cos may have a script for patients, the patients are still getting conflicting information. Iowas medicaid director also pointed out the 30day grace period offered to patients starting march first.
