Reporter the next week students at Washington High School will have a conversation and choice, to sign this pledge to End Gun Violence and prevent a tragedy this school is all too familiar with. It takes a split second for a gun to change everything. One of my Close Friends played basketball here. He got shot because, like, of his friends, they were playing with a gun and they were not supposed to. Reporter accidental or intentional, the decision to involve guns escalates the violence. We have had a lot of gun violence with teens, like a lot of teens have guns and i dont feel like that is right. Its unsafe. Reporter now Washington High School is putting the topic in focus. Every student at Washington High School and every staff member are going to stop and pause and engage in very robust conversation and dialogue it. Particularly among young people. Reporter students are writing poems, essays and songs to help fuel the conversation and wider social media campaign. I think the social media piece is going to really drive them. That is how they communicate Washington High School , i i pledge as a student at Washington High School, i pledge i will never bring a gun to school. I will never use a gun to settle a personal problem or dispute. Reporter the message is strong. Its not worth it. Its not worth taking someones life o because of a gun. Its not worth it. Reporter the interim principal dr. Carlos grant says he wants students to understand the importance of reporting illegal weapons both on and off campus to help save young lives. Police say was an accidental shooting. A 13yearold boy is charged with involuntary manslaughter, carrying weapons and interference with official acts. The gun that killed parks wasnt found but a second gun not related to shooting was found near the scene. Reporter the Iowa City Community School District is trying to make it easier for parents to get answers for reporter karen, parents in the Iowa City Community School District are keeping up with a lot of changes. Now theres a new web page to help them out. Matt larson has two girls, one in first grade. The other is 3 years old. Wednesday is dads day off. Reporter larson says he and his wife are following the districts conversation about school boundaries. There are plans floating they seemed to have found one and said this is it. The board decided given the new secondary School Configuration and addition of liberty high room at our secondary schools to allow people to transfer from one school to the other. Then as we go through the Morning Hours tomorrow that continues to push on to the southeast along with the cooler and drier air. By afternoon we are back into sunshine, it will be kind of deceptive because temperatures are going to be sharply colder around eastern iowa. Then friday another cool day as we start often the weekend with temperature somewhere in the mid50s. But beyond that you can see its getting closer to 70 in nebraska and that is the warm air that returns to the area on southerly winds over the weekend. At this point we still see major weather systems that would produce any precipitation. So our forecast for rain which now goes all the way up through moay conditions in eastern iowa.
