5 feet than the United States Senate if things hold out the way they look right now and that is something that has only happened 4 times previously sent senators or direct elected I believe going back in 1914 when you look at that when I look over at the House side of things we know what we're up against with Nancy Pelosi taking the Speaker's role in some of the chairman's seat some of the leadership that she's going to put in place when you look at the House of Representatives what is the best case scenario for the president here because we know it's going to be investigations and obstruction coming from the house. It's really going to be up to the Democrats and Speaker Pelosi who did the German how they're going to move forward there's a difference between campaigning and governing and serving in the minority and serving in the majority let's not forget that just about a year or so ago the president offered a deal and the opportunity to work together on an immigration package Democrats were going to have none of it he's offered to work with them on infrastructure they were going to have none of it so now those issues are going to be brought back and we'll see if Democrats actually want to govern or if they just want to continue to resist with the changes in the Senate it's not just gains in seats but the gains that were made in seats are people that are more in line with President Trump philosophically and ideologically So now you look at judicial appointments and how much easier it's going to be there and so this this gains in the Senate is bigger than it appears it's not just numbers but it's also ideology isn't. Absolutely I mean you had some of the more I would say moderate members that are now no longer in the Senate so you've got more. A more solid conservative base there in the United States Senate which will also that if you do have a defection of a senator or 2 it won't mean nearly as much as it used to because now you have you know up to maybe an additional 5 seats to spare it's interesting you were last time you joined us we were talking about the confirmation hearing of Brett Kavanaugh and what this might mean to the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee and isn't it interesting that everyone in a swing state and a battleground state other Democrats that voted against Kavanaugh lost the only one that won was mansion the only one that voted for Kavanaugh that you were right on the money with that deciding factor. And that I believe is the ultimate reason because besides their obvious I don't ideological differences why Senator Schumer did everything he possibly could to try to delay that well after the midterm because he knew that his members who are we were vulnerable who are from states that the president won could not win with that vote either way they were going to either alienate their base or alienate the voters most of them except for Senator Manchin chose to alienate their voters and they paid dearly for it when you look forward to what the president is is going to do because you know him so well Mark liner joins us by the way he was an advisor to President Trump How does he shift the agenda now how does he deal with the House of Representatives led by Nancy Pelosi to still try to get the expansion of the military done keep the tax cuts in place and keep the things going forward that have led to this economy being so strong. Well I think anyone who knows anything about President Trump he's very transactional and he's based on a living on the promises that he made that he's going to continue all the my head I think he's going to continue to push for making those tax cuts permanent I think the one important thing we need to note is that we still have the speaker's gavel for like another 7 weeks speaker Ryan will remain the speaker the Republican chairs will remain in place they've already passed in the House a bill that would make those tax cuts permanent for individuals it's now in the Senate the Senate could take that up in the lame duck session there are even a couple of spending bills that have to be passed before Christmas the end of the year which could provide an opportunity for Republicans to deal with immigration issues finish funding the wall those kinds of things that could still happen before Speaker Pelosi gets her hand on that gavel and if not the president's going to look for ways to work with them on infrastructure on immigration he offered to deal with the docket that you h. And the question is going to be is Will Speaker Pelosi and the radical Democrats took over the House will they have any of it you know what will these committees look like you look at the shift in power just on the Intelligence Committee in the house with Adam Schiff now taking the chairman's role there that now becomes almost a weapon for the Democrats with he said oversight but we know what oversight means . It means endless investigation subpoena everybody who's ever worked for or probably or work does work for the president or private you say to one of his hotel is not going to be subject to a subpoena under the Democrats but look the one thing that we know if history proves anything to be true is that Democrats will overplay their hand and they will they will take things too far and we've seen that there is no and that there's no. Evidence pointing to anything about Russia for the 2016 election I don't think that's going to change they can keep digging they can keep trying and they'll have friends in the mainstream media who will help them but the facts aren't there the American people will reject and I think it's actually going to put the president even stronger position heading into his reelection in 2020 now we know Mark that when people you know what is said in front of the cameras is always for the best case scenario what do you think is happening behind the scenes with the Democrats with the Blue Wave not happening in the House and what could be best case scenario for the Republicans like you said a 5 seats swing in the Senate what's being said behind the scenes do you believe. Well I think they're going to have to come to grips with their with their own be on the friction in their own party between the right the new socialist and progressive that were elected in the House versus the 1st of more of your long term traditional Democrats who might look for opportunities to work with the president that you've got many new progressive socialist out there who are going to have enough none of it and so trying to keep that fractured base together and their majority doesn't look like it's going to be that big it may only be you know a handful to 10 feet so that gives them very little wiggle room that means they're probably going to have to work with Republicans to see if they can get things done if that's what they want to do and we just don't know if that's what they want to do at this point now we know that the president is petitioning the Supreme Court that the White House wants the Supreme Court to take up this Dacca issue again so that they could phase out Dhaka if he prevails there if the Supreme Court puts this back in says the president has the right to do this what does that force the hand of what does Nancy Pelosi have to then do. Well you'll see you'll see in some cases that they will try to legislate things that they can't do they will continue to try to run the courts to try to get done what they what they can't be legislatively and that's where these judicial appointments by the president are so important not only at the Supreme Court level but in the at the circuit the appeals court and at the district level and having that bigger majority I mean those nominations are going to continue to go through they're going to go through even faster now because Democrats are going to have less less leverage to be able to to slow things down so it's long term it's good we've got some very big wind also in the governor's races and the one thing I would point out is that at a national or statewide level especially the statewide level all of the Democrats celebrated socialists that progressives got beat they lost they lost they are losing Abrams all of the ones that they celebrated and went all in on pushed all their chips on got fairly defeated and so it's a good sign for us and it's going to be interesting to see how the Democrats reconcile that difference in Florida you know you look at Rick Scott won the Senate seat there it looks like a dissent is obvious dissenters wins the governor's race you know Abrams hasn't conceded but she's losing that race as well but all right last even though 70000000 spent as you pointed out these are also places where Barack Obama went and was very heavily involved where you saw Oprah Winfrey in Georgia some very prominent not just tons of money but big names and they weren't able to get over the top. Absolutely and you saw the president out there packing arenas and where the president went we won where the Democrats celebrities I mean they tuned out Taylor Swift and all of those think they were distraction the media can fall in love with it but it didn't it didn't produce whims despite the fact they had record numbers of spending and massive amounts of money it didn't produce and went at the ballot box and so I think the American people are going to see they're going to want to action are going to want to see movement it will be depending on whether the Democrats want to do that looking forward to finally getting Senator Martha back Bally across the line looks good right now they're in in Arizona so it was a great night for Republicans a historic level let's remember Barack Obama lost 63 in the House Bill Clinton lost 54 seats in the house the averages in the is in the mid thirty's sense than recent times so this is not this was not a wave it wasn't even a drop in the bucket. You're absolutely right and of all those presidents that I mentioned both of both parties who lost the House House seat that massive amounts about the bell went on to be reelected 2 years afterwards and so and the map is not as favorable for the Republican Senate in 2020 as it is in 2018 so having that even larger majority gives you a little bit more cushion but you're going to have the president on the ballot he's going to run strong and he's going to run hard in ways the the 2020 campaign you know gets underway today but actually it never stops from the moment that he was elected in 2016 right now but it gets started in earnest today and we know one thing about this president he doesn't do anything at less than 100 percent so he's going to be out there he's going to be going full board and and I know there's a lot of people looking forward to getting this thing started March is always we appreciate the expertise and the time. I've done not only a lot of campaigning but they also have to I've missed this because I got sworn into Congress that May 7th and so I had to hire people and set up an office in Washington d.c. And hire people and set up an office in the district Quest's a introduced 3 pieces of legislation it's been a busy year but it's been a wonderful year a wonderful opportunity and 1st of all I thank God for everything and the opportunity and then all of the voters in my district and all the people that have volunteered and helped in my campaign the entire year you know it's interesting because the special election was a very close race that you were victorious and same candidate you run against now in the general and then margin of victory was much wider and what was more expected and in line with what that district has done in the past. And I think a lot of that has to do with what you just said the way you wanted office I would say that your I think I told you just when we saw each other the night that you won that special election that was so much sincerity in how you were the honor that you felt in being elected I think people see your sincerity in this and I think that's why they've backed you so well in that district. Well thank you very much Mike you know I do I always thank God 1st because God Think control and gives us everything and I am just really feel blessed an honor to serve in the u.s. Congress not that many people get that opportunity to help the people in their district and it's it really truly is an honor and I'm very thankful to the voters for giving me the opportunity again to serve we've been asking your your colleagues in the Arizona delegation in the house the same question and I'll ask you how does your job change now what does it look like in January with new leadership being in the Democratic Party Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House and leadership changes in committees how does it change your perspective on your job you know I'm still going to work hard to work for my constituents I there in the 9 years that I served in the Arizona state legislature we were I was in the majority so I've never served in the minority so I guess I will find out but you know I'm going to continue to work hard to to help people in our district we've helped dozens of people veterans people with the a issues with Medicare issues Social Security issues and really that is I've told my staff that customer service is really my top priority I really do think that I have a history of working with both Republicans and Democrats to get legislation done so I'm going to continue to try to work with both Republicans and Democrats now that Democrats are in control. And try to get some movement for legislation that helps my constituents in Arizona do you do are there are some areas specifically of common ground that you believe you can make some in what inroads with with the Democrats and work together and get something done are you anticipating just gridlock for 2 years and just to try to get through it. I think there are things that we can work together on specific way we have to look Air Force Base in congressional district and I think Democrats and Republicans alike when it's a pointless Air Force Base and that mission I've already reached out before this election and have that. Congressional Arizona delegation breakfast meeting in my office with both Republicans and Democrats because I really want to meet with them on a regular basis hopefully week weekly so that we can work on things together for the benefit of Arizona so start looking forward to January you know it's an uphill battle now is that when the Democrats are in leadership as far as taxes go we've been getting some differing opinions on how the Democrats are going to go after this. How important is it to you that we make sure these tax cuts stay in place for the people in your district and for the people in the country and un dissipate a fight with the Democrats as they're probably going to try to raise taxes on you know small businesses and some of the higher income individuals. Keeping taxes low has been a priority to me and for the last probably 20 years that I've been active and so I will definitely try to work to make sure we do not increase taxes on individuals and small businesses or any businesses because they're the ones that employ the people and so you can see how the tax cuts and jobs that have helped the economy we are in a booming economy there's more job openings and there are people to fill up I mean why would we want to reverse that but you know what this have to see you know a lot of this have to see what tactics the Democrats are going to come forward I'm hoping that that they that they're going to be Democrats that will be able to work with and I think there are I think there's reasonable Democrats but we'll see if the leadership on the Democrat side is willing to work my my guess is not once again time assuming Congratulations on the victory was nice to see that it was a comfortable margin for you and a nice night for you as far as the election goes we wish you well and I'm looking forward to talking to you after January when the next session starts. But he's going to victory the president is saying look we won the Senate we kept control the Senate we picked up some seats and said Now there are 4 still technically to be decided Republicans look pretty good in 3 if not all of those but either way they're keeping control of the Senate and the present thing that just doesn't happen to any well present as a matter of fact Mark blogger joined us at the beginning of the hour and pointed out that it's only happened 2 other times that they picked up seats in the Senate ever like in 1914 I think that's when we started electing and senators and throws of state legislature doing that is some something to be said for a president that's been demonized as hateful and and.
