Excuse my ignorance, you said the water is moving about 3 miles an hour when it begins to recede, will it speed up, will it slow down . How does that work . Theres a big wall of water. Its a crest, like a wave thats coming at us right now were going to the peak level of that wave. Once it passes by, it will garagely subside. Once it pulls away from you, the further it is, the quicker it happens. Communities to o the chons to the south of us. Cedar county is in preparedness mode, especially the areas of cedar bluff and rochester. Sure enough. It will go all the way to the Mississippi River before it gets on out of iowa, which is quite a ways lets take a little break here what do you think . Well look at the tine check neighborhood at the czech what everybody wants to know right now is the river levels. We have some fresh ones in where we stand. Well start up in vicinititon. The river there has crested and river continues to fall slowly but surely in that part of our viewing area. The crest is southeast of there. That will move into the palo area. I have some pictures to show you from earlier on today. There you can see the crest around there. The water has gone up a little bit. That was early afternoon. Heres another shot from the drone. You can see the water has backed into some residential areas that are close to the river there in pa lockers. I think by tomorrow morning, youll be leveled off. As the day wears on, you will start to see a receding trend in palo. Downstream here in cedar rapids, our level has reached but surely and tomorrow morning, 23 feet is the anticipated crest here. That will be the sechighest crest ever on the cedar river in cedar rapids. Here are some of the other crests to show you. Number one was in 2008. We remember that monster flood there. In the 165 year history of the actual cedar in cedar rapids, the river has never been above 20 foot except in 2008 and now in 2016. There. You can see theyre up there. Were now approaching the 23 the crest will be hanging around here for the next couple of day, and then things should start time prove on friday and saturday as the big wall of water heads downstream. Your stage has moved 20 preponderate feet there. In the downtown area, the new flood it is a big flood for animosa. Now as we take a look at the level maps, the front that came on through here yesterday had been locked in place. We have night after night where we had heavy showers and thunderstorms. As you can see with much higher focus shows only 2 hundredths of an inch of rain in cedar rapids. The overall weather pattern is much different now. I think a lot drier weather pattern for us overall. As we look at the satellite, you can see that the scries nice and clear around eastern iowa. Its 52 in earlier this summer when we had these big rain events were around 57 to 80 there v fallen back to the 30s and 40s in eastern pape thats the keep of air mass thats dry and and would not field yelled any of those thunderstorms. Were not concerned about any rain around here in the coming days. And tonights forecast calls for clear condition and chilly temperatures too with the dry air and our clear skies, low temperatures will be back in south. If we didnt have the wind at 10 to 15 mile an hour, we would be in the 40s. So the wind would help out just a little bit in that regard. For tomorrow, it turns blustery once again. And the cold will come in handy during the day, or at least a sweatshirt. Eventually, well warm it back to the 60s north, the mid60s central, and perhaps the upper heres the extended forecast. Youll notice that weve got temperatures in the 60s here all the way through thursday. After that, we slowly inch back to the lower 70s. But i dont recall the last time when the last time we had 7 days without any rain was here in eastern iowa. It has been a long time, im pretty sure of that. And those 40 residual a we were battling that flood. It was in the 80s, the humanity level is high. We were try triking to get that mess out of peoples homes, the mildew and moss. So its cooler. Brian johns says he didnt even bother sandbagging his home. brian johns, didnt evacuate its my belief that if you sandbag, keep the water pushing against the wall on the outside and theres nothing inside to push back the walls cave in. Homeowners say they hope theres little damage. But they say theyre keeping an eye out on their neighbors homes too. I feel like i should watch over everything and if i can contact somebody. Things are staying pretty dry on this side well keep an eye out for you guys. There are a number of closures because of the flood that weve been scrolling on the boom all Cedar Rapids School closed tomorrow wednesday. Classes will not resume until at least thursday. If that should change, leaders tell us they will notify parents no later than thursday afternoon. As for the other closings out there, well have the complete leaders were asked about mail delivery. They say they are still delivering to all areas they can reach, including the evacuation zone zone. You can pick it up on the West Post Office and if you evacuate and stop delivery until if you are evacyated and want to stop delivery until you return, you can request that. Let me spin around this way. We see some of these businesses, theyre on the wrong side of it. We spoke to the owner over tornadoes grub and pub. He was extremely range that the city built the flood wall where it did d. He said his building and some of these buildings described it. He had to build up flood barriers and said hes protected until 4 protected up to 4 feet. So we asked the city why the flood wall was built where it was and why these businesses were excluded. The city told us that the reason for that is that this is the last piece of ground where that the last piece of ground that is high enough and solid enough to put the flood barriers on. As it goes topography is more uneven. They say putting up 4 to 8 feet of protection does not work. What else is important is how solid this ground. Its the last piece of hard, flat, dry concrete that these barriers work on. The owner says he doesnt agree with that, but the city stay like we saw before, the water is still way down the bloke. We can even take a look at how far the water is away still. It hasnt come this far yet. If it does reach down here, this is the extend this is the extent of the protection they have. When it gets in the counties area, and there are a bunch of road closure and flooded roads near homes here what, are the sign guy is the one thats got it down.
