Now the Iowa Attorney Generals Office is looking to eliminate a backlog of untested kits. So when heidi suddenly died on her 21st birthday, it shocked everybody who knew her. And even with all the advances in medical technology through the years, heidi still doesnt have an answera answera but she does know why shes still alive. They got her heart beating again but she was in pretty bad shape, so doctors eventually airlifted heidi to a madison hospital. I guess i was not respsive, they put me on life support and it got to the point where the doctors had to have a meeting with my parents toa you know, discuss the thing that parents never want to discuss. Miraculously, heidi pulled through and was extensively studied to determine the cause of her cardiac arrest. But doctors never came up with a difinitive answer. Completely healthy by all other measurements, heidi received an implantable defibrillator in her chest. Chest. And it has leads that go down through the venous system into the heart, attached to the heart and sit in there to monitor the heart, pace the heart and potentially defibrillate the heart if needed. Back on her feet, heidi resumed training for a college degree. So it would have been 2003 after i graduated, i started not feeling well. Again. Heidi contracted pneumonia and thats when doctors discovered numerous blood clots that had spread to her lungs. Again, no explanation. Explanation. Shes had an extensive workup to look for a hypercoagulable state, the ability to form clots where you shouldnt form clots. And they found some abnormalities but nothing that they really could say that was it. One of the clots, an inchandahalf large, had grown on her defibrillators lead line into her heart. So doctors opened heidis chest, removed the clot and placed a defibrillator outside her heart in her abdomen. Taking the hardware which is two little pacing leads, sensing leads that screw right into your heart muscle, and these two Little Things that look like small flyswatters. Theyre about that big and they look like mesh, and you and back of your heart and those are the defibrillating paddles. Not willing to give up and stop living, heidi and casey got married, had two beautiful daughters. You think about why am i here . And theyre my reason. And now, fulfilling another dream, heidi is running her own womens clothihi store in uptown marion. Other than having a cardiac arrest and having some procedures for this hardware, she leads a very normal, active life. The citys population is now over 18,000 people. When i started here about 20 years ago, there was about 2,500 people. This week North Liberty approved the new 10year parks comprehensive plan. Part of the plan identifies areas where the city might consider buying land for future parks before the area is developed. It also has plans to improve the parks that already exist. Exist. We currently have 20 parks, about 275 acres of ground that we maintain. There are more than a Million Dollars in improvements for this year. Park and rec says many of them will be completed by midsummer. A shelter area will meadows restroom and concession stand. Stand. We also have a splash pad going to go in here this summer, which is right directly behind me. In july, the city plans to add four thousand feet of recreational trail around the border of Centennial Park and additional parking. Beaver creek park is getting a new playground with a zipline.
