The superintendent wants to know how they can make sure every child is successful no matter their race or socioeconomic background. Background. Theres always room for district is trying to do just that with your help. Help. Were interested to know from the community what were doing well, as it relates to our equity work, were interested to know what we arent doing as well. The district has already implemented an equity plan. Plan. We have a sixpoint equity plan and it really takes a look at leadership and closing the achievement gap and diversifying our workforce, reducing suspensions and expulsions. But they say it wont hurt to find out what people think about it so far. On tuesday night, the African American museum will be open to people willing to voice their opinions and discuss changes that could be made. Made. Its more of an openended conversation about what we really want for our community as it relates to support for diversity and cultural consciousness. Creating brave space to really go deep and have those conversations that may not be comfortable, but thats okay because we grow in disequilibrium, we dont grow in our comfort zones. The Diversity Committee says it has to be more than just a onetime discussion. That we do is maintain equity and professional development. Development. Husband. 62yearold Dolores Flynn was taken into custody this afternoon. Shes charged with Second Degree murder for the death of 72yearold gary breckenridge. Investigators say flynn allegedly admitted to family members that she attacked breckenridge on january 4th. If convicted, she could face up to 50 years in prison. Ongoing privacy concerns between Law Enforcement and the public continue to be an issue when it comes to body cameras. Wayne jerman says his department is still reviewing guidelines for its own body camera policy. We dont want to push forward too quickly because of a lot of these issues and privacy concerns his Department Plans to equip officers with 20 units that connect to their dash cams. But whats taking a lot of time is identifying when, how and what footage gets recorded and released. Those who are victims of sex assaults and sometimes situations involving minors and children we just have to be very careful cognizant and sensitive. But because iowa law doesnt require consent for recording thats when it could become a double edged sword for what many believe is a helpful device. Officers should be required to tell people about the recording whenever practical, especially if theyre in private homes as you can imagine. I think a lot of it depends on the situation if its a hostile situation, i dont know if the officer is going to turn my camera on. Chief Harry Daughertys officers at the Marion Police departments worn body cameras for the last three years. On any disturbance calls or anything like that, they automatically turn their cameras on. His citizens can read their policy online but letting them know on scene falls under iowa law and is casebycase. Cedar Rapids Police says as it finalizes its own plans in the next months we want to be sensitive to citizens who do have these citizens who sensitive to citizens who do have these privacy concerns. Were pretty excited at the Street Department because a for equipment, street projects, traffic signal improvements and possibly another employeethe North Liberty streets superintendent says theyve had this truck since 1999 and some of the money coming from the special census might go to replacing it. A snow plow like this one could cost them 140,000. Everybody was really surprised to hear that we were a thousand residents short in our estimation. The last census in 2010 counted 13,374 people. City officials estimated the citys new population to be 17,000 people. Nielsen says the growth in population and funding will make it possible for the city to do more across the board. Colony is looking forward to what increased funding will do for city workers and streets. With the census money that we project to get, it will make and keep up with the times.
