During the years in between New York raised the minimum wage from $725.00 an hour to $15.00 an hour now of course that doesn't count tips as well New York City workers saw their pay increase by 20 percent after the $15.00 minimum wage hike and a new report says business is booming despite warnings of the boost to devastate the city's restaurant industry I think I can tell you what's happened. If you raise the minimum wage in the restaurant business you wipe out the small fry in your business you wipe out restaurants that are financially not on stable ground because they can't afford to pay the additional wages for the labor they need to operate their business and that means the rest of the industry picks up the extra business you know in other words if you could imagine this in an economics universe of say 10 restaurants you raise the wages 7 of them can afford to pay the extra and they pass some of the costs along to customers the other $3.00 cannot afford the increase so they simply fold up and go away what do you think happens to the 7 restaurants in that little universe where there were 10 you wiped out 3 of them with a wage increase why everyone working at the other restaurant says our business has never been better because you've wiped out the small fry and the rest of the industry simply picks up the difference prices go up it works for the owners of those restaurants it works for those who still have a job at the surviving restaurants it works not so much for those who got pink slips or for the customers of those restaurants as well and I hope you took note of the fact that m.s. We don't want you on tobacco at all we don't want you on any food form of tobacco and I guess in a perfect world you could say well it's not healthy well table salt is unhealthy and people put it on their food anyway so why people drink alcohol if I say if I said you know that that no amount of alcohol is actually safer you I guess I'd be scientifically correct but from a practical standpoint it's foolish to say let's strip everything from you know our lives that is potentially unhealthy we'd live long healthy lives and be miserable at least that's my view of it so they don't like tobacco in any form even if you say but we found a form that people can easily and readily switch to from burned cigarettes from burning cigarettes that is dramatically safer and then those people can make a decision about whether or not they want to quit once and for all and yet the public health types are not happy with that even though in Great Britain is exactly what they're doing is saying get off cigarettes and go to vapor and and and I and it does improve people's health situation dramatically but that doesn't seem to make the public health types in America happy no you again you hit the nail on the head when you talk about the the idea that all tobacco was equally harmful and it's not it's what you do with the tobacco when you light it on fire and suck it into your lungs you get thousands of chemicals many of them carcinogenic that's causing the cancer you know there's still this perception that nicotine is the is the evil actor in all of this and it's not there are ramifications with respect to call your vascular things but not much I mean Scott was not much Scott I've had doctors on the show and most of them are reluctant to do it but if they come on and I said Ok tell me if I strip away the burning stuff and I just take nicotine in some form gum patch Vade. Is that dangerous and they'll say nicotine is is no more harmful to you than say the caffeine in your coffee and we could all say well less coffee would be healthy Ok fine you want to be a purist go ahead but most of us do not I drink coffee mostly in the mornings I swear I don't do much in the afternoons and it's not because I can drink cup of coffee before I go to bed at night go to sleep I don't have a problem with it but some people do but but they say the nicotine itself is not dangerous it's the way you deliver it that's dangerous which kind of makes it unique among drugs I mean you take alcohol in it you know I'll call affect your brain alcohol affects your liver you know no matter what form you take it in whether it's you know whiskey or or or the lightest beer you can find but but I just don't understand why they can't accept the idea that that maybe people like the feeling they get from nicotine and if we don't want to say for delivery system then be happy with that instead they have become I don't want to use the n. Word is one of the Nazi word I don't like use now because I don't know people say you're an how about a nanny we're the tobacco nanny stop being my nanny let me let me do this and so now will never be happy until nicotine is a raised from the North American continent Ok I you know I use an example often when I talk to people in audiences that if if this were reversed and kept saying if we small coffee beans and inhaled all the toxins. Sold themselves to the devil without doing what you have been news where we have a hatred of trump all we ever do is talk about Trump and all these staffers are are saying that we push this this anti Trump agenda every day and we're no longer doing legitimate news and it's while we may suspect that to be true hearing a Greek chorus of staffers all say that and this is one quote one guy says this is a media coordinator he says Jeff Zucker effing tells us what to do every every morning so you kind of get a window inside how the news business works and what governs the press and how and how Jeff Zucker actually thinks thanks to this brave Senate staffer who was playing the whistle I'll tell you James I looked at the video you know that I've worked in television news before I have never been in a position where the news director or especially to the person and Zucker bridge position way up the corporate chain is down in the newsroom saying this is how it's going to be and this is how we're going to treat this story this is how we're going to treat Lindsey Graham this is how we're going to treat impeachment and basically sending his troops out the door as though he's a movie director deciding how to shoot the movie where he's already decided what the script is and you just have to go out and shoot the video and gather the information to be able to make it meet Mr Zucker's impression of how the world should be represented not just to the United States but to the rest of the world as well well that's what I've heard a lot of people the news business say that's what struck a lot of people who work in the news business and I think it goes back to Jeff Zucker was the executive producer and b c. Entertainment and The Apprentice and kind of turned Donald Trump from real estate tycoon to mega star but what happened was they never anticipated that Trump would win so all the staffers are saying we created we created Trump we created the Trump monster it's the Trump show all we do is talk about Trump and perhaps the most amazing thing to me is that exactly right Zucker is literally feeding information into the host while he's on the show telling him to you know put put the screws to. Who he's interviewing you know Kellyanne Conway is another one that's coming on the next day where he's literally talking to the person as they're interviewing Kellyanne Conway and so we've got to we've got to really put the screws to them so this is unusual for a network news c.e.o. Or president never do they get on the phone and do this but every morning this insider got access to the 9 am calls and recorded them all not just Jeff's group but senior staff and officials within the network. Complaining about the network and saying that we're not we're not doing legitimate news gathering so it's kind of like what I found is that no one inside the network actually respects c.n.n. And that's really telling but they just understand that a very well compensated job is something they want to hang on to so they're willing it sounds like most of them to simply you know do whatever Zucker tells them to do rather than saying no we're journalists will go out and find out what the story is bring the information back and tell it in whatever way seems legitimate there they're effectively going on to fill a script. Well that's why I found that's what I find so refreshing about Kerry porch Kerry porch is the c.n.n. Insider who didn't care about his career and his salary enough to make a difference I asked him why not just quit why do this and he said to me and I'm quoting here he wrestled with the decision long and hard he lost sleep over it but he said quote I didn't see any other option because I noticed that I was in a very unique position in space and time to do something to protect the Republic was what he said Now this is a Democrat this this guy is not I've got to know this guy he's not a right wing guy I didn't place and there he walked up to me at a conference and said James I want to I want to blow the whistle on my employer he said I work for a 3 letter agencies 1st I was like What the tires and then he said I work for c.n.n.
