In the mean streets to the back county road the men and women of law enforcement protect and serve our community is behind the badge on our target 131612. Well good morning listeners this is Doug right now or junior and you have tuned into behind the badge I am taking over once again the the boys needed some time off so I'm in here and I am very very lucky to have a close personal friend of mine and somebody that I just met today that I'm going to call a close personal friend from now on so in the studio I have Sue McCann who is a principal and one of 7 principals who started the 10 k. With a cop program with Shawn dodge and a good friend of mine Neil survey go from truck p.d. Welcome Neil Neil and many of you know Neil and Shawn dodge and a couple other officers Jim Gordon they do a lot of running they're the guys that do the running in full gear and so yes a lot of fun yeah definitely it as many of you know that know me personally you realize that I am not they guy out there doing that that I think you have a run and thank you I don't know it well I think you do if I could bring it out now it's you going to have to get a lot of me out of the way. Anyways Welcome you guys I really really appreciate guys coming in so today we're going to talk about some of this run stuff but before we get too far into this others couple things that I did want to touch on unfortunately right when I drove in this morning I got some breaking news it looks like we lost 2 officers in Mississippi that were killed this morning and he also heart my heart goes out to them goes out to their families this is becoming all too common unfortunately in law enforcement it's always been a dangerous job but it just seems more. More that we're having a lot of violence towards officers continue to happen and that really. It's very unfortunate that it occurs but it does speak to what you guys are doing out there Sean DOJ Jim Gordon you and I think there are some other officers I. Couldn't go to that but can you tell us a little bit about this full gear run and what brought that about and what it's for this started a couple years ago I ran a 5 k. And uniform interlock just to raise funds for one of our chaplains that had passed away and I thought to be a good good tension grabber Shawn dodge from Modesto p.d. When you're homeless are your Special Victims Unit detectives. Hit me up and said hey let's do the Peace Officer memorial run half marathon in full uniform and we're going to try and raise money for families of fallen so let me ask you a quick question on that what was your a national response when he asked you to do that. So you know it was yeah after the 5 k. That 5 k. I thought I was going to die yeah yeah it was the uniform is not meant to run in more than a sprint to catch somebody and it's not even meant for that it's really designed for more looks and or ability than it is for comfort and athleticism but he got some how he got Captain Jim Gordon from the sheriff's department to join our little trio and we did the half marathon and Jim and I said never again that was I mean we rolled into the finish line but we were a $17000.00 Wow And Sean 2 months after that ran a full marathon the CIA and the Californian International Marathon in Sacramento with a sergeant in Folsom. Eric Beatty. And there in the full marathon I said Ok show now I'll start doing it with you I'll start on the full So it's a competitive thing that well it's the competitive with myself because I saw the amazing thing with doing this and there's a narrative that's in the media that there's a lot of anti police sentiment in the United States and I've run in uniform in Washington d.c. In Wisconsin and. All over California and the things I'm finding is that's not true absolutely we have because and part of it is we're so vulnerable on the course we're sweating we're breathing hard we're you know we're pouring water over heads just like all the other runners and they can see that we're just human we're doing something extraordinary compared to what they're running in we're doing this in uniform but they get to see if they get to talk to us they get to they get to run with us and hear our story and we get to hear their story and it really bonds us with the community I love it and you know I can I can actually associate with that some of you know that I Last year I rode the police unity tour and I'm doing that again this year and though it's nowhere near as rigorous as what you guys do and it's definitely not uniform it is as you know thousands of police officers and survivors who ride up to about 300 miles between New Jersey to Washington d.c. And we right into the peace offer memorial but my point to bring that up is I too have found that this idea of this type policing is truly a small number of people that are extremely loud about it. And I just want tell you the story and I guarantee you have the same stories I remember coming out of New Jersey and we were actually going through a neighborhood that was a pretty rough neighborhood and like you we are very vulnerable they they definitely know it's all cops and if you correct in and and they could easily most over an hour or so there is quite a bit of undercover. What have you I remember rolling through this tough neighborhood and I have to be honest with you and this is something that I went back and reflected on myself about how I look at people I remember wrote rolling through this of this tough neighborhood and I'm thinking look at there's a bunch of gangsters over here and I'm telling you to my delight to my surprise these guys is tough as they looked and as as gangsters they look they were clapping I mean while we were going by like Keep going guys keep and I was I was amazed and it was just like this nonsense that we hear about and is being pushed on Facebook and all this other it's nonsense it's a it's a small group of loud people but the majority of Americans love us they too they have our back and so I think it's great that you're getting out there and doing that and that helps promote that so. Tell me more about the Honestly what this does to your body be and I bring this up because Sean mentioned this last one that he went through that he actually had his pistol rubbed against him that yes so the last one we did was not an ordinary run if you consider marathons ordinary now. Sean and I ran to the grave site of every fallen law enforcement officer incentive sauce County buried from Stanislaus County still buried in Stanislaus County so we started in Oakdale at 3 am and we went through we stopped and 2 cemeteries in Modesto one cemetery in series one cemetery interlock one cemetery and an error and then we ended at Lakewood memorial in Houston where there are several police officers and 2 c.s. Those that were killed in the line of duty. And we stopped at their graves as well and at every grave site we would call their name go to attention Shawn and I would salute and drop the salute and then we would turn and start running again so 11 hours we ran a little over 45 miles in full duty gear. And that is it's considered old for running anything over 32 miles an ultra marathon and it was it it it hurt our bodies we had a full support crew but Sean had a whole worn into his hip from where the gun I mean I went through all all the layers of the skin I had road rash where my my belt was it had it had worn the skin away which made going to work the next week interesting like you know. And I the biggest injury I had I had a hole worn on the back of my ankle from my shoe that they kept telling me let's let's stop it's your your You've got blood all over your foot Let's stop I said I don't want to stop I don't want to look at it I don't want to stop where we're at mile 40 I don't want to stop I don't want to look at it let's just keep going so if it does it it breaks down your body it your your I mean we were eating and drinking along the way but there's just nothing you can do to it's it's intense especially when the sun comes up and you're wearing dark blue and we're long sleeved tie bulletproof vests duty belts about 25 pounds of gear that doesn't breathe well I got to tell you it is it is absolutely so on are Will and and I am happy to call you my friend for you going out and doing that kind of stuff for us. So. The Elysees just looked at me like oh I'm on but actually we're going to talk about the peace officer moral right and that is that is something that also promotes fallen officers respect fallen officers we're going to take a quick break and then when we come back let's talk about the piece off Morag because that's just next week yes and we definitely want to try to get some support out there and see if there's a writers I want to come out and run and we'll move on to that So actually you're listening to behind the badge on power talk 1360 am 12. Welcome back to behind the badge doc right now our junior in studio today we are live with Neil Straker from Troy Police Department and Sue McCann from what school you sue Sacco for Shackleford elementary and so we're talking on the break and we have talked about the full uniform run and that that full uniform run you guys have done on the police officer memorial run Also with us coming up next instead and so I know that I've been involved with the Peace Officer more run for many years I believe it or not I actually ran the 5 k. One year and I remember yeah actually I think I've read it twice I think I ran it with my kids one year and they were running backwards most of time well like laughing but you were out there right but you were out there speaking of which real quick I'd like to just throw a quick shout out to my son Tanner right now who turned 14 years old today yes Happy Birthday Tanner closer to drive and he says Lord help us I assure you he is not awake and i surely you that he did not hear that but maybe maybe my dad's awake and maybe he can he can remind them so. Happy birthday to her so the fight is so not 5 to run they the piece off from well right yes coming up October 7th Ok let's talk about that Ok So go ahead tell you go everyone interesting go to peace officer memorial Run dot com You can still sign up there's a 5 k. a Half marathon and a one mile fun run for the kids. The fun's this is altarpiece us Memorial group Stanislaus County. And the fund This is their biggest fundraiser and moral group is an amazing organization that takes care of the families of the fallen takes care of the memorial gets families to. The National Law Enforcement Memorial during police week there is there's a a wall that has the names of every police officer killed in the line of duty in the United States and its entire history in Washington and that's very important to remember the officers that way but in at Lakewood memorial cemetery we have our own Senate office County Memorial and our piece last memorial group of takes care of that right you know and an interesting note on that. This year the national memorial is actually opening its whole new yes it's a whole museum and so being back there last year and writing into the piece off from the memorial in d.c. I saw that important I saw all the construction going on and I've been kind of following it it looks like it's going to be absolutely amazing I think there's a full sized helicopter and yet either of those so if they people leave things behind at the memorial and they. Know they're going to put those things in inside the museum and also people can look at one of the things that was left of the memorial was Sean Dodge's boots that he wore in the. Marine Corps Marathon Oh nice last year when we went this year he left those boots there at the L'Oreal which is which is pretty neat but anyway so peace also memorial run yes please sign up it's a great race it's a course that it. It's a beautiful course through Modesto. Lots of lots of activities there's lots of police departments there for the kids to come out and see and we've got equipment and swat teams in. And then there's the running which the running honors the fallen police officer Stanislaus County. The. 5 k. Is a great little course it's 3 point one miles you can walk it if you want I know personally of a police officer and I don't know if they're listening his fiance is one of our newer employees he was. Shot in the line of duty at another agency down south he was just about to recover and then he got in a bad car wreck so now he's in a wheelchair well in a walker but we arranged to have get him in a wheelchair and and they're going to push him on the on the 5 day course as a survivor as somebody whose name isn't on the wall but really they and. So there's a lot of great stories that are going to be out at the race to come out and there's $42.00 police officers signed up to do the full gear challenge so there's going to be 42 cops while in full gear running the half marathon and then there's going to be some running 5 K.'s to I love it. You'll see a lot of blue line flags it's there's a group of us that'll be running together the entire course so we're going to come in. And you'll you'll see us it's hard to miss I love it so again that's Oct 7th. Decide up and you know if you're not a runner which I am not a runner I should be but I'm not if you're not a runner it's really a good time so I do I go every single year a lot of times are I do stuff for the course and help out last year was actually pretty awesome for me because my girlfriend is a runner she's run several marathons and so her and her girlfriend ran the half marathon and I got to quote unquote work I participate in entire half marathon on my bike very good so I rode around took pictures for the course and tickled quite a bit quite a bit of pictures of you guys last year with there was probably close to 40 of you last there were $39.00 of us so we beat it here and I love it from all over as far as Los Angeles Police Department that is absolutely awesome absolutely awesome So let's talk about this 10 k. With a cop so when we were talking earlier it's my understanding the something occurred down in l.a. Or the Southern California tell me how that all got started so I was like there's probably 3 of you guys that got this whole thing Sean Sean dodge and I are part of we started Project remember when we did our 1st and then we've we've moved to run for member Los Angeles which is a half k. Half Marathon 10 k. Race and nonprofit has the same goals as a Peace Officer memorial run and they are now sponsoring us and a lot of these runs they had the race director Mark had the vision to have police officers run with kids. Shawn was running on his own at a couple of the at risk pools and he was running with the run programs and he'd go out there in uniform and it was it was great I mean these kids love it and they get to see a police officer and see that we're human and he said one of the greatest days is when they were just in awe that when he told them that he was married and had kids and owned a house because the kids think that we just live at the police station and we have no lives we're just normal people. So. We got the 10 k. With a cop idea pitched to us and then it was a matter of getting schools on board that would let the police officers. Come in and run with the schools but the school has to do most of the work pretty much 99 percent of the work we just provide the swag and the uniform the schools have to have the running programs together and then we needed a driving force and we met her and the driving force is in studio today I love it so so I got to be Macand this morning for the 1st time and I actually have to tell our listeners that I got to mess with you a little bit I had never met Sue as you know Neal until yesterday on a text group text and this morning Sue beat me here and I get the script text that says I'm here and nobody's answer the door and so of course I had to respond with oh no that's next Saturday and the response was seriously so fortunately our producer was shortly thereafter and I got Sue in here and we had a good laugh about it so welcome thank you very much for coming on the show I really really appreciate I appreciate what you do as a as an educator and a principal that's huge I don't think I mentioned but you know my girlfriend is a is a special needs teacher and Mantega And so my had just absolutely off to you guys so you guys do a ton of work and and I we see it every day we see it with 3 minutes to have a good education and good leadership and good guidance in school and that's huge for us later on in life so thank you so the 10 k. With a cop. I guess if I was Sue That would probably be a no brainer what a great opportunity to add to your program but tell me a little bit about your program before the 10 k. With the cop came and you guys must have had some type of running program so initially I was well I knew principal tackle for I was at Wilson for 5 years it initially we started it Wilson for an attendance incentive the kids weren't coming to. School so we're like having to get these kids to school so we wanted to make school fun so I thought you know what I've read kind of about mighty Myler Excedrin So we started it as they tend to attendance incentive so we every Monday morning I had a teacher out there totally voluntary. On volunteer basis out there every Monday every Friday 8 o'clock from 8 to 815 it come out and run and so it worked our attendance went from I think it was 18 to 30 in the whole district really work the kids really like to do that then in February last February's I was hit by Mike. Shatter chase I was at a 5 k. With my students and he was like hey ever thought about 10 k. With a cop like Ok a sounds painful. Very painful like me like I just I barely made it over the 3 point one And he goes and I said Well tell me more about it anyway so basically it just kind of happened and I was transferred over to Shackleford and I'm like we got to get these kids to school so we started there and we the other night we were at an event and we couldn't figure out how to really even started I know it came from Mike and then Sean called me and and then I said You do know boys that this is going to grow exponentially because all the kids are going to want me every child loves police officer I mean literally all you like superstars and sure or not we're up to 7 schools we need more police officers to come round of the kids because we're having to say no to school oh wow because they're so they're like wanting to get involved but we definitely can't have that happen right so right so that brings up a good question Neal what is your remedy for that are you reaching out to the different departments or trying to get more runners we are we're actually reaching out well there's within the cities we have a series officer that's running with them but that's the school because there's no serious schools in it but you want to run the kids and these awesome by the way you're listening Christian may not be the. End you don't that there's going to be some times when it's running in uniform which that is the whole running in uniform scares a lot of cops away there's a lot of people away but. We don't have to run in uniform more than you know the mile or 2 we want the kids to be able to see that we're police officers but then we're going to get out of the uniform and just wear shorts and a t. Shirt in a 10 k. With the cops stuff and so they know that we're police officers but then they see us in regular clothes absolutely oh my gosh that's I mean that's that's connecting that's that connection that you guys are real people you know who just you're just normal people and that's what how to load assume and please correct me if I'm wrong here but I have to assume that in some cases the uniform can be intimidating for some kids in some cases and so I think it's absolutely perfect that you introduce that uniform but also go away from the uniforms and do that part of it that's awesome absolutely awesome so what school are you running with I'll be running with Cunningham. Interlocked Yep that's my school they're trying to get a run program started right now to me if you're listening to me the principal being I could go on. And a good chunk of why the police officers are involved in this it's the mentoring aspect I mean teachers are doing the same thing that the police officers are doing but when they see the teachers every day it's like seeing your parents every day you know listen to their advice but so we teach them goal setting and goal achieving and a lot of these at risk kids don't have that in their home lives they don't have adults that will teach them Goal Setting police officers are natural goals that are set if we made it to our position in life we know how to set goals absolutely teach that to the kids teach them we start that we just had the one mile run and Shackleford they all got their one mile or bracelets that's a huge goal for them and 10 k. Is 6.2 miles and that's going to be in May And you know we have these milestones literal milestones all along the school year we get to May we do that 10 k. 6.2 miles is a lot for these elementary school kids that's a huge a whole lot for anybody so a lot of adults and these so these kids that have had no or very little goal setting and goal achieving and and and support in that way have this huge accomplishment that they get to carry with them. As a side benefit and one of the things that came out to l.a. Is preventing tragedies before they occur so if we can create this relationship like this as mentors as goal setters as as cheerleaders for these kids absolutely if they do you choose the wrong path later on. And they have an interaction with police if they just comply and say Don't resist that are all we want this solution just put your hands up and give up you know nothing nothing bad will happen right right right and it'll prevent that tragedy well and as you know Neal we we hear it all the time even with the with people that unfortunate have chosen bad paths in life when we've arrested and it seems like they always have a story about some type of interaction with a cop and I can't tell you I'm sure New York probably tell you how many times I've arrested somebody and they've said man you know I want to be a cop you know before before I got a DUI or or whatever and so it's it's absolutely amazing that you guys are out doing this stuff and you know when we come back we're going to go into a quick break but when we come back one thing that we haven't touched on is just the health aspect of it and I think I appreciate that because you know as life goes on and I love my barbecue and you know I I don't feel that I'm as healthy as I should be and this is to get these kids started if very young age because I didn't have that and I know a lot of other kids probably didn't have that So once again we're live in the studio today I really appreciate you guys checking in listen if you want to call in and talked to Neal sue or I please do 289-551-3483 know what's going to talk radio 1360 am yours from behind the badge. That shows we're trying to get to the senseless and killing of our fellow citizens and yet the left in the media have demanded that we work with them and finally annex common sense gun control but the problem with all of this is there isn't a gun control debate to be we aren't having a gun debate in this country. It's. Not a gun debate it's a debate about control get more glands and Monday morning at 6 in the Falaise talk a leader our talk 1360. Here's the latest from the Weather Center partly sunny skies coming your way for you Saturday with a high of 81 with maybe clear skies tonight and tomorrow to pick up the Sunday Times of 1000 sun with a high of 80. 6 to. Welcome back welcome back and so one thing that I failed to mention after our last break is you know this background music is actually Steve Stanfield he's one of the hosts he reports although So you know Steve so actually he he's not going to call in advance a very very highly talented musician so enough course I got to say hello to my good friend and retired police officer Larry Meyer who is a solid listener and you know he's listening because the star sent me text messages I think his his text to me was I can go so many places with your last comment about being in shape so. Thank you Larry I appreciate that so so talking about the the 10 k. With a cop and it you know we're talking about a lot of stories on the break and just some amazing stories and hearing about these kids and not every kid in that Esto series has this great home life and you know the you know the that the parents a get them up and take them to school it's just that's not reality and unfortunately we see a lot of that and I know Syria you and I were talking with Neal just a bit ago what happens with cops to where we find we find those kids that just touch your heart and I couldn't agree with you more it's like I want to take this kid home and I want to take this kid home and give him the life that I know that I could give him and unfortunately autopsy it's not reality but what we can do is we can engage with these kids like you guys are doing and I got to tell you listening to what you guys are. Doing is absolutely phenomenal because you are you're giving them some sort of chance because if you're not engaging with them somebody else is and the people that are gauging with them will most likely older kids that are already in trouble and you know we see that a lot with gang type stuff and kneels knows very familiar with that kind of stuff and so please don't ever lose sight of the system this is amazing and I really hope and pray that this just grows and grows and grows and hopefully we can get series to get some teams going about that I thought about right that the great things they have a series off so that it's wanting to do that I love it I absolutely love it so going back to the to the run we were talking about all the good stuff about it but one thing we didn't talk about and which I actually appreciate is the health side of it your obviously getting these kids in a situation where you're getting them to make healthy choices and I have to assume that that's part of the running with these kids is maybe kind of a health side of it also yes so what we kind of have planned for this year is obviously we need to get these kids ready for this 10 k. They just can't go out and 10 k. So we have been working all summer long with the law enforcement members just kind of saying Ok at Shackleford we're going ever run it's going to be one mile and the goal is health and nutrition so it was the nutritional kind of focus next month we know we're still in September yeah next month October 20th it'll be a Bret Hart and it's going to be a focus on overcoming obstacles I so we're going to have a couple speakers there talking about how they have overcome obstacles in their life January's going to be a Wilson Elementary School that's going to be a 4 mile because in the interim we're going to do the spirit of giving So we're trying to do one mile 2 miles 3 miles that's a 5 k. Change and as air skis be December at this downtown that Esto Wilson is going to be 4 mile and it's go. To be a focus on mental health and then we're going to have our final one inter lock with Neal and Cunningham elementary school and that's yet to be determined with the focus there he's going to be but it's there every single run has a focus all ours was healthy nutrition I mean it was great it was out saying we had been we had live residents and sense farms out there with all their beautiful produce we had sprouts market we had La Perla market with all their 2 cumbers and watermelon and I love it when Starbucks gave us all their nutritional packs I mean I can go on and on and on but we had a Memorial Medical Center is out there peanut butter sandwiches and bananas it was a great good deal good deal right Neal this. Is this do you think that this is a good way to get to these kids and in kind of bridge that that potential good nice kids to maybe an interest in law enforcement and is this a bridge to maybe get these kids interested like the Explorer program. Well it definitely it breaks down that barrier or prevents the barrier from ever being built because like you said they they latch on to adults in their own communities that may have negative views of the law enforcement they're just going to adopt those views but if they're running with us at the schools and schools are our safe place for them so they trust their teachers they trust their principal. And if the teachers and principals are saying here kids we're going to have your own with these police officers it's kind of the enter duction saying well if you trust them then I can trust them right so so as they get older and and I don't want to say this is a recruiting technique in any way. But if it leads down that path that would be fantastic. More more so what we want to do is be able to help them be great community members it's awesome no matter what they do no matter what what they choose to do for a career or not having a career they want to do volunteer is them. But making them outstanding community members love it and the health aspect is very important absolutely running instead of video games and that's a very very good point and in so that does I guess open up something of the fact of do you have kids that maybe show an interest but aren't don't have the confidence to do it and how are you babbling that I know that we talked about starting with the one mile the 2 mile but are you finding any kids that you're like Man I really want to do it but they just maybe they're afraid or they don't have the confidence to do that and what are what are your thoughts on doing that because he just did mention a really good point a lot of volunteerism and you know there's things that did that we could bring these kids in to help volunteer at these things I mean it sounds to me like you're dealing with a great group of kids and the more we could get involved would be just fantastic right the kids are great I don't think they're lacking the confidence it's just the simple things transportation shoes. I mean these kids need shoes I mean they're out there in their flip flops or running a one mile So just little things like those you know entrance fee fees to Marathon are these $5.00 K.'s that you want to do we call marathons yeah you're going to run I love it and. Then they were there metal the whole next month I love it so you know just the simple things I think the confidence is there it's just you know saying hey you know we'll get to get those needs provided that we really need like simple things Susan Sachs I love this kid knows you know well and I'm so glad that we brought that up because I truly love this kind of stuff and so I'm going to tell you right now that if you have somebody identified I would be more than happy to sponsor somebody to go through pay their entry fee help get them a pair of shoes and socks and I'm throwing that out there because I know I got a lot of people like Larry Meyer who who would probably like to get involved in something like that so if there are those of us that can help you in any way if you see a need find a need if you have somebody that needs that type of thing please reach out to us obviously you have my phone number and and I you know I challenge anybody any of our listeners who want to get involved in that I can help such up with Sue and and Sean and maybe those of us that don't run we can help in other ways and I would be happy to help sponsor get some of these kids what they need and you know you can go to 10 k. With a Cop dot org And and there's there's donation right you can donation and click and you can you can e-mail and say hey can I send this up to the Northern California chapter I just like to shout out to my agency we're on air we go to a lot police activities league. The 1st major donor up here. You know I asked for a smaller amount and the board decided that that was then enough that this was too good of a program this was too important of a program for the children in our community and the turtle Turlock police activities league donated $2500.00 to their owners that's awesome so we're still waiting to hear from Modesto Ok much much bigger Yeah I'm not as yeah you have lots of kids here you have 6 or 7 schools and Modesto that so it would be great and absolutely you actually have top programs in a lot of the schools and series pal and some of the we'd love to get some of the police officers associations to kick in some money and $500.00 pays for a lot of tennis shoes I love it I love $500.00 pays for a lot of the entrance fees and I don't I know a lot of that is is actually in the works I happen to be I work a lot of backside stuff and I sit on a couple boards with running and Baker to Vegas and stuff like that and so I do know that that is that is being proposed to be a looked at and there is that there is a lot of things that all these associations are very very involved in and and I do I do see our power and our are off for association and getting involved at some point on these things. It's amazing there are so much going on I mean there's so much need the community on all kinds of aspects and so it's good it's good stuff and we love doing it with it we enjoy doing it. I'm trying to think there is going to be a snow cone machine out at the out of the run the sure so kids if you're come out to run the piece off from a moral run there will be a snow cone machine compliments of the Stanislaus County Peace Officers Association which is one of the boards that I do sit on and so there's a ton of booths out there and like Neal said there's a there's a lot of stuff for kids so don't feel if it's not. For you if you're not running because it's so much more than that downtown shut down it's a great time I'm not going to run it this year but I'm going to be down there hanging out helping out doing stuff like that and I'm telling you there's just a ton of stuff to do down there I'm sure I'm sure I'm quite positive that the minister police officers I'm sorry the missile police swat association will have their rig out there have a couple Swat officers out there and that type of stuff mad that that's awesome stuff for the kids they love it and I think they got quite a bit of stuff that they they sell and and also for the ball and for the for the adults it's not too late to volunteer often we still need course volunteers Ok And of course volunteer So we'll talk about that when we come back who are on our final break I told Soorley that we go into these breaks for pretty quickly so we try to get it all in so we're do you listen to behind the badge on power talk radio 1360 am We're going to take a break and we'll be back in just a few minutes. More stimulating time I can go down a list for compelling conversation a list of what it is I hate about t.v. Rush Limbaugh our talk. This is the bad our top 1360. Thank you Steve Scheffler for leading us into our final segment good job good job is a talent I love it. To be honest with you I've no idea where that came from I just continued on because that's what the other guys do. Welcome back to the badge power talk radio and again live in studio I assume you can and Neal survey from too like p.t. And we're talking about this great program getting kids involved with running and bridging that gap between law enforcement and kids and you know I almost hate to say that there's a gap there it's a I don't know that there's a huge gap there I just think it's he you know we have this job takes so much of just going out doing our regular job that a lot of times I think we over the years have missed these golden opportunities that you guys are talking about just just by being busy not that now I can I can imagine one cop out there that wouldn't want to get involved with a kid or help a kid or get a kid involved in running but remember this is not a full time job for you guys you know and it amazes me the more and more I watch you guys run these full gear runs and the stuff you do with a 10 k. With a cop all of that stuff is over behind you working your. Sean Dodge's a full time detective I mean these guys these guys are working their day to day jobs and involved in some other so many other things it's just amazing and another point with that as all of the uniform runners we're not getting paid the greatest right this is all on our own time same thing with 10 k. With a cop we are not being paid by our agencies to read this so all the cops you see out there we're we're completely voluntary in our time we're getting permission for murder ministrations to do it because we're in uniform. But we're not getting paid there's no overtime there's no taxpayer funds and that's and that's amazing in itself I mean it's you all have families I know Sean wanted to be here today but the only way he was going to get Linda to go to l.a. Was to get her down there to spend the day and say I almost took him I almost had him in the studio so lend if you guys are drive in l.a. Listening I got I gave him to you for the day so you guys have a good time in l.a. I think he's going down there to do a run rate I'll be there with a morning I'm looking at one am I going to rocket run down there are oh. We're doing a 10 k. It's crazy you guys are. Sleeping he said we're going to 130 he's driving down there to do a 10 k. That's crazy here in mourning. Well and then drive back it's fine to have you have you ever thought about seems like a tryst just something. Right yeah right yeah I know I know you're only it's only the same people that question their sanity and I've never questioned . Do you want to give a shout out to my teachers all of the 7 schools Ok principals like spearhead it but the teachers run it I love it and they're volunteers that's so in my school we have 4 different teachers they're out there running with those kids making sure they're getting their mileage and said that we're ready for 10 k. With a cop they're not getting paid they don't love it at the goodness of their hearts that's good so the teachers out there think you good deal good deal and there's quite a few of them and like I said there's so you we have 7 schools in best of that are doing it and you have Cunningham I mean I'm working on Wakefield I love it I love it and so man if you good if we could keep pushing this program and getting others other area cities involved I would be awesome because it truly prove it truly profoundly change kids' lives that's awesome and I was telling you over the break about a leukemia survivor finishing Yeah his brother I mean you know they got a ride from one of their neighbors moms and they take that because the tank is a cop and they're there and then they know only finished the one mile they're helping me bring the Kindersley through again you know because the little kindred have to go through as well and it's just it's it's opportunity for leadership and it just it profoundly changes the kids' lives and really that's what it's about and that's truly what it's about it's about given giving kids an opportunity giving kids a chance and you know we're in tough times you know times are different times are different than when we when we grew up and we really need to we need to do these things and I and my hat is off to both you guys and Shawn and you guys just doing absolutely amazing work in the community and stuff like that so you know what I really appreciate you guys coming and this is been a very very educational and awesome time to talk about this program and talk about the runs.
