Elite version of would you rather be on the other end a team tanking or a team playing competitive enough basketball to feel people in the stands we're in a weird place in the n.b.a. Right now where if you're the Cavs you look at it go like we're going to win the we've got Le Bron He's still got a couple more years where as long as we put Le Bron the floor we're going to win these are cars we have to start thinking about building a roster specifically designed to beat this Golden State team and I think that's what it means talking about as far as trading Kyrie is because he's not a great match up player when you talk about facing the Warriors because he can't guard any of their guards our own Bomani Jones in the right time with the money Jones spoke on that matchup issue yesterday as well the Warriors have so many guys who can hit 3 pointers and who protect the rim and that lets them be able to do so many different things in terms of a lot of it makes them so hard to guard the Cavs don't match up well with the Warriors I think they made the decision that the only chance we're going to have against them is if we can shoot threes well enough that we can kind of been the math back in our favor and then we're able to hang with them but this roster as it is currently constructed I don't think is enough to compete with the Warriors but do they have enough assets to where they could work some things around and then wind up in a similar situation maybe that's where it goes but I mean this team as it is is that even a matter of whether or not they're good enough they're not the right team to go up against gold state and heard Bonnie say like well if we should have 3 is maybe we have a shot that carries a great 3 point shooter. No he's not. But man it just gets tough for me to give up what you know he brings you and I feel like as much as we're talking about you've got to kind of mimic Golden State in all this are you ever going to out golden state them what are you or are you ever going to be able to do what they do better than they do about this would you rather have just for one season not moving forward one season would you rather have Chris Paul acquiring. Coach going down to that level seemed odd to me but it brings up the idea of what kind of job is is Ohio State it falls into that middle ground of basketball programs where yes we've seen them be very competitive on the high end of things but it still especially in the Big 10 a basketball or a basketball team trying to operate in a football school how enticing can that job be when you know you're always going to play 2nd fiddle. And it got us to thinking about that in the larger sense of how does that operate at a lot of schools because I'd argue that in most schools given a competent semi competitive college football product you would almost always skewed to being a college football school just because the sport itself is not only more popular inherently but it's set up to be more popular given the structure of how both. Outfits operate you look at men's college basketball and you've got a team where usually your best players are going to be one and dones in college basketball usually your best and brightest stars are going to be done before they hit that 3rd 4th year mark college football more often than not you've got guys the bare minimum of are going to have to be on campus for 3 years. And even more even a larger portion of are still saying 3 or 4 before they're n.f.l. Ready there's a physical development factor in football that kind of trumps a lot of things the other sports and what it gives you is better quality I think across the board on those teams but also you've got a regular season that's just inherently way more meaningful than a college basketball season where you just essentially wait around for that March Madness project. And I think for a lot of places that answer gets easy but then you look at the schools that fall in the middle ground like coming up with this before the show Michigan state jumped out to me because in a sport in college where basketball or football aside your stars are the coaches they're the ones they're the longest they're the ones with the name brand power you've got Tom is a Tom Izzo who is as respected and well known a college basketball coach accomplished as there is in the game and yet Michigan State for me would be overwhelmingly a football school. Despite all their success that's still a school especially in a conference like the Big 10 that is so football heavy with basically every school in that conference with the exception of Indiana whose basketball history is just almost impossible to Trump. Almost all those schools then you move down south converse. And you say Ok you look at the s.c.c. Where if you're looking for a competitive basketball outfit you're basically looking at Kentucky as the class of that conference and on the other side you've got Kentucky football team that has been a bottom of the barrel i.c.c. Team for a while was a little more competitive this last season if memory serves but in that same sort of situation that we've proposed you've got Kentucky playing for an s.e.c. Championship. Versus Kentucky basketball playing in any number of the high platform games that they've been playing in. Do we really think Kentucky Football is losing out on that one. Now maybe the scarcity of success pops up just as much there but it's an environment that still so football heavy down south that even a place that has been as powerful under John Cal Perry as any basketball school we've seen in the country again I think it was half their seasons they've reached the final 4 under Coach how I feel like they drop it in a heartbeat if that football team is good all the sudden so I thought about that too where it's like the scarcity rights of Kentucky Football hasn't been good so if they had an actual chance to win as he championship the fans would probably go there but that doesn't work in reverse it's not like if Alabama basketball finally made a final 4 that those things would turn out for basketball over football.
