And juicing they kind of just stopped respecting the historical nature of numbers in baseball as much do you think that if he did manage to stay in the league as he says he wants to and gets to that 752 that people will be able to somehow connect can text to allies it again and realize that it's good to worth taking the time to celebrate Yeah I mean he's got a long way to go for that pool sorry I know use 36 years old with this point in his contract runs through his 40th birthday so there's a chance if he if you really turns it on self-doubt the next couple years and put up a couple 30 homer seasons and maybe a 40 Almer season or 2 but that's a lot to ask for a guy who's a cold hitter and a ballpark like Anaheim which is not necessarily the most favorable for headers. You know we're talking Jeff Passel of Yahoo Sports in the shell pens of performance like and that's the thing that gets me about his sort of lack of coverage or lack of great coverage here when he was reaching the $600.00 was because he was one of the guys that we said well he'll break some records and he'll do it clean because we believe he's clean and so let's celebrate him and now it feels like like Sarah said maybe the numbers aren't aren't as important but shouldn't it feel like Albert Pujols is one that we should celebrate because supposedly he was the guy that we were on board with from the beginning yeah and you know it makes me wonder whether any records are going to be celebrated anymore in baseball you guys alluded earlier to the fact that baseball is not as popular a game and I think that popularity that you talk about is more to do with the fact that it's a more protein game you know you root for the Cubs if you live in Chicago you root for the royals if you live in Kansas City root for the Dodgers or angels if you live in Los Angeles and you don't really appreciate as much what's going on on the national level but but for a guy like pools just like for a guy like trout when he's putting out these types of numbers I'd like to think that baseball fans will be there just to celebrate because it really is something worth celebrating while we use Mike Trout a lot as an example of baseball star problem which is that he could walk down the street in most places and no one would have any idea who he is even though he's today a star in baseball. Speaking of a Stars What do you make it on Bryce Harper comes rumor. That. Think that everybody wants to be it because it's a great culture and they have great talent there and. There's another so you know there's a chance that they're going to win a couple more World Series over the next series I also think that you've got a team like he sure has been. A ton of talent where Bryce Harper would look very good in that you know form a team like the Los Angeles Dodgers that the new. York Yankees I mean every team's going to want Bryce Harper and he's not have his pick and if he wants to go to the Cubs he will take less money. I don't see him taking less money I just don't and it's not that's not like an indictment on price shoppers character and I think I think he wants to be the highest paid athlete in American professional sports history and I think he's going to be and it's going to be fascinating to see where he ends up I just don't think that with their commitments already and with what they want to do whether signing Chris Brown that long term or locking up some of their other guys that they've got keeping this core intact that they're going to be able to afford Bryce Harper but you know what. Well knows that and I think they're they're putting in time and effort I just don't know if they have a solution at this point because baseball has lost that cache compared all compared to all. Time in some places comparative until across and it's got you got to get kids playing more kids are playing now than I have been in the past a matter of a positive sign but there's a lot more work to be done. Yeah and it feels to me like it's the combination of so many factors that can't be fixed quickly which is the attention span the length of the games the fact that they're playing every day which means that they're not capitalizing on personalities in ways outside of the game itself and then it's that kind of Timmy's the certainly be antiquated ideas of not celebrating and not expressing joy I think I thought during the Strickland Harper event you kind of seem to be on the page which is that this idea that we continue to allow these been written rules of baseball to police the joy out of the game is not the best for the sport. And then he uses that So if you look at all the court trial he's still going to add up the most of what we just haven't seen a case or scenario for what happened in last year's finals where it kind of provoked him and gave him off to do a lot go over there or do watch a lot of things time solo we'll see what happens there and I don't think he Lee agree with that but you do yeah and it's not to say that I don't think it's possible that he's figured out how to control himself or that I don't think he's going to make it the whole series without a blow I just think that we haven't really seen him be tested there been to blow out wins no one's really gotten in his face and I think it would be foolhardy to presume that he's a new man. And then you'd be shocked if you know if anyone would be shocked if something were to happen I would say that they got tricked by him well you could argue that he was a more tame player during the season I mean he came into the program he's in or came into the finals I believe with 6 technicals in his back pocket that he could have gotten before he got suspended again so that's better than last year when he was on the edge it felt like a whole series and I don't know it feels like maybe he's taking some of it has taken some of his frustrations out on media instead of opponents at times but does feel like he hasn't necessarily been provoked we haven't seen the wild kicks right this year I think we're going to have busted by or been untouched as far as we know and normal you know I don't want people watching grinds off the court to be soley about on the court granted he went through the whole season seemingly I mean he could have he could be defensive player of the year and so that's the type of. Focus that you need for an entire season right if you're going to be that good on that and the floor and yeah I do. Think that he has gotten better at controlling the motions but that's because I think it's been a season long especially post-season lot of motivation for him because again he cost his team a championship a lot of people will say flatly he cost them a championship and so he can argue hey yeah that's fine but I recruited the heck out of Kevin Durant and I got him here so now look at us but who knows what would happen if you would've won it last year so I think that in itself forces him to calm down and then you go on the fact that Steve Kerr is not around has been around for a while doesn't want to make things more difficult for Mike Brown So there's a measure of respect there that's like Ok I know that if I go a little nutty that Steve Kerr is not there to handle me and it's going to make things differently so I think of a combination of everything makes him a slightly different better behaved player now yeah right I certainly think a big part of it you're right is massive regret and guilt over last year and what's interesting is there are players that we see particularly the ones that tend to lose control and aren't able to change themselves even in light of some of those extreme circumstances right I think a lot about the 1st one the pops in my head is the hockey player roughly 2 or as he just never figured out how to stop himself even when he caused Crick it like terrible injuries to other people and did things that were beyond disrespectful on the ice he just couldn't fix it I feel the same way about sayin Dhamma can see right after you step on someone's face once maybe you decide I don't do that anymore because it and it's terrible for your reputation and it doesn't make you seem like a good guy and your reputation as a player and as respectful opponent is gone sometimes they can't control themselves so I'll actually be very impressed if he makes it throughout the season without any of those major incidents and proves that he did really learn and take to heart how he affected things last year this year is not the issue for me with dream I thought I thought the whole time he was going to be on his best behavior especially during the finals against Le Bron after what happened last year and next year that's going to be the issue when he's back on top of the world. And maybe coming off of a defensive player of the year season and a 60 you know playoff run and people telling him he's the heart and soul and he said of that like when dream green gets all the praise in the world that's when you got to be like I did he might he might go back to his old ways right now it's dangerous but if they keep blowing him out by now where he doesn't feel the pressure I think he'll be Ok. I mean honestly if they become a major a legitimate dynasty I don't think you really have to worry about him on the court the more because it's just going to feel so easy and it's just going to have to worry about his showboating and his trash talking and where they're going to get him in trouble any other way but for the most part I don't know if he's going to be a big problem but it's always that potential and that level that success that he's seeing might get to his head straight directly by straight back wireless nationwide coverage in America's largest and most dependable 4 g. We were talking earlier about Steve Kerr and his absence from these finals were actually I think it was on Friday but he came back for Game 2 and here was Shelley Smith telling us how that all went down for him to return in game 2 how is her feeling after the game last thankfully he said he was feeling good to me what's interesting is that none of the players knew this was a very closely held secret nobody wrote the story nobody had it before time nobody knew we didn't know until he walked into the media room and I got the questions players didn't know how they looked at their phones and saw that people were tweeting Steve Kerr is going to coach tonight he didn't even tell them before the game so they were excited they were happy to hear is voice he said he was feeling good after the game but a lot of his problems have come after a bad night's sleep but we'll hear from him tomorrow on how last night and tonight goes to see what his status will be for game 4 but I think he's pretty good he looked pretty good last night so he was feeling good he was moving a while so that's a good sign. I don't know I mean Steve Kerr considers himself lucky man n.b.a. History to have a sort of sidled with Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich and Phil Jackson and got 5 championships and then went on to coach Steph Curry on a championship ready team and when a championship right away like that's you know a lot of people would say that's luck other people would say Steve Kerr probably is a large reason why a lot of those things were successfully such a good guy. Knows the game etc etc. What kind of a presence like let's just say 101520 years from now what we were kind of a presence will Steve Kerr have been in these finals because it feels like a lot of people really just want him to be back because they like him and they want him to be a part of this deservedly this success that he that he helped build but in reality like the actual meaning to him in this series is not a lot and so I just I it's almost like that Steph Curry thing like he just that likable that we want him to be a part of it or is there more to that I think it's definitely that he's super likable and it's also just it seems very uncomfortable unfortunate to be out of the game in something that's meaningful that's how you know what kind of pain is and right that he would miss even the n.b.a. Finals so I think that's a huge part of it I think you know you can certainly say that the big work has been done and also that the team is so good that there aren't those last minute coaching situation that you really need right I mean Mike Brown can obviously look and see if there's a matchup that's not working or if there's something that needs to be adjusted but they haven't been the type of close game where it came down to real strategy it's more of the matchups here the guys that are going to go out and do your thing what was interesting to me about about which I had to say was I think there's probably 2 reasons or 2 options or maybe both at the same time for why he wouldn't tell the players in advance I think one might be that he is so not even day to day but minute to minute that he didn't want to make a promise that he couldn't follow up on so he said you know what I'm not going to say anything until I'm literally courtside and ready to coach the other one which might be an addition to that or entirely separate is the idea of giving them this emotional boost of showing up at the last minute and right before they play they're inspired by his appearance there and I think they could be working hand in hand but I certainly would have anticipated that the players would learn about it. That way as well so that might tell us about the status he said as far as really needing to take it minute by minute yet with you it almost feels like. Because it was not told to anybody that it was like a test run that it was Ok let's see if you can if I can Steve Kerr because he's the one making these decisions ultimately let's see if I can coach this game because I'm probably going to need to be needed the most in games 3 and 4 in Cleveland and so if I can get through Game 2 without a problem chances are I'll be great in Cleveland I'll be good enough to coach in Cleveland and that will put us in the best situation to try to win this game and what you ask You had a column on this on Yahoo Sports and you quoted Bob Myers the g.m. Of the Warriors he said of Steve Kerr he said he has this calmness amongst all the chaos to find out what matters and what doesn't that's a hard thing in our jobs what do we focus our attention on and what do we let go of and on the road at this level and that's kind of when I kind of that's where it started to fall apart for the Cavs for the Warriors last year probably more important to have Steve Kerr there than any other setting I just don't think it's that much importance to where if he's not there it's going to mean a thing in terms of wins and losses right I agree with that and also you know Shelly mentioned in there that the real question is what happens after when he has a late night when he's on his feet when he pushes himself how does he recover from that and so that might be a situation where he's trying to figure out. You know what a toll it takes on him and how he'll be able to bounce back and whether he can handle the travel and all that as well yeah it's going to be interesting like. I don't think it would be fair to leave Mike Brown hang in there as the head coach in Cleveland I think the crowd would have been he's going to be and I both sides I think he's got the best deal out of everybody.
