You don't want to make payments on a dying horse think about it when you buy a new vehicle you go down to the Honda dealer you're going to buy yourself a beautiful brand new Honda Accord which is going to run let's call it 30000 let's just say 3 Ok The minute you drive it off of the dealership floor you get the keys from the guy and you've signed all the papers in the you've given him some sort of downpayment or you gave him your old Volkswagen Beetle you drive off there your car is now worth approximately $22.00 to $24000.00 and you like what I just bought it I mean it's got no miles on it yet the minute you sign the paper. The minute you signed the paper that became a used car and instead of $30000.00 it's now worth $22.00 to $24.00 you just lost between $8.00 and $6000.00 because you signed a piece of paper that's just life if you like if you want to run around. Yeah well to that he right that right you bought a brand new car that's what it's worth now so you now have to get $68000.00 of use out of that so when you add up you are transportation budget how much your payments on that $30000.00 car well probably about $550.00 a month so you're going to be spent in between the 06 and $7000.00 a month just for car payments plus because you have a brand new car you have to have full coverage insurance on it which it will be cheap it least a $100.00 a month probably a 100 to half so now we've got $7750.00 go now and we haven't even put gas any at and we lost $8000.00 gosh that's only a good deal wow you have it you got a new Honda that everybody's going to look at you go wow Jimmy we're so proud of you you got a brand new car in the parking lot when you go to work yeah kind of cool in the course when the wife says you know a couple months down the road hey honey yeah we were going to go to Hawaii for vacation you like yeah. Sorry yeah we'll be vacationing in the backseat of the Honda. Hopefully you're getting that now if you've got but loads of money no problem please go buy a new car because that means there's good quality pre-owned cars for me to buy. Yeah but you know if you pay for it yes you did actually you paid for it over 5 years how does that feel oh yeah but odds are you know you're going in there in the you're getting it dude all the dealership mechanics are top notch Actually you didn't even get a mechanic you got no change guy yeah yeah he's he's probably going to leave his job working 56 hours a day over the dealer changing oil to go change oil at McDonald's Well he says you could you like fries with that they're not mechanics there are loop techs and while I don't want to be smarter loop techs because we love our loop techs they're not mechanics so you're getting a loop job beginning all change on your car and now you've hit 900000 miles guess what it's going to need to love. So now you're faced with reality you don't have any car payments but you're going to probably have to drop a few Jesus down in that vehicle to make it work if you're going to keep it going and his is where Planned obsolescence rears its ugly head if you didn't think the dealerships if you didn't think the manufacturers know when that car's going to roll over and cough and you're going to need to kick in a couple 1000 bucks to keep it going of course they know. They have it planned so well that you don't even know that you've been a. Dad But yeah when you roll your car in our shop it but I was out of repair year you know it's a 20122011 get 8900000 miles on it gosh now you need a major service on it you need brakes Let's say you might need a timing belt and goodness gracious you're probably due for a 2nd set of tires Congratulations you're probably going to look at it 2 to $3000.00. Here So let's say you got 90000 miles on you little to get a Camry it's all paid off now you go through your midlife crisis on it and you get yourself your major service son and you get a new set of tires maybe a little break a nice clean up in a detail job and you just keep on trucking oil changes and happy happy down the road for the next few years before anything exciting is going to happen now that's how you make the money because let's say you were making payments so you don't have to make those anymore. You know take that $600.00 a month car payment and you can take it from the right hand and you could put it in the left hand so what did you do you change hands is it still yours Yep so then you get to invest that money in anything you want to integrate here's what I recommend you do you invest it in. The new car fund now the new far car fund could take the form of. Stocks bonds gold silver platinum old 40 five's whatever you could even put it in and coffee can and bury in the backyard but I think the Bible shy frowned on that stuff no we want that money to make some money you know in talking about so get it out there get it making you some money but it's amazing that if you take you know so let's say 7 Let's let's say you spend a grand a year on that car maybe too grandiose Let's get crazy crazy crazy crazy spend 2 grand a year I mean it's on that gamer and at the end of the year instead have an $7000.00 get $5000.00 a year old money you get to keep So what $5.00 times 5 last time I checked and let's see 510-152-0252 extension 5 you get put $25000.00 in the coffee can buried in the backyard and the swing set Oh well guess what you can do in the next 5 years well we can take that $25000.00 go by yourself a new car can you buy a 2 or 3 year old really nice Camry for $25000.00 heck yes all day long and twice on Sunday you get 2 for one on Sunday heck yes do you think you're going to be a better car buyer in shopper if you're taking that $25000.00 of cash out of the ground already your bank account or out of your savings and make you a better deal Oh heck yes. Everything in Oldsmobile they don't make of them or yeah I know and this one have been through a couple shops use trying the old darndest to get it back up on the road and at the end of the day when we took it on I like yeah we can get we can figure it out I don't know if we're going to have anything to work with when we get done and she lovingly told me oh I've got to make this run and it was a very long. Story of a long road back and I was like Ok I get it I get it so. The thing is we were able to get the vehicle running it wasn't you know a complete fortune it was still a lot a lot of time and effort going into making this poor thing run but I had to tell at the end of the day I said I can't guarantee if this car is going to make it down the road because it didn't run when we got to us it does run now. But I don't know how long it's going to go and she's like what you think I'm going to the year 2 out of it and I'm like you might get through 4 years out of it it may not make it to the stoplight I said it's that old and that tired I just don't know and we there's no way for any good mechanic to know we can use our best judgment but what I wanted her to understand is that it's time to make that transition and while that car is still running to get herself something else and you know if you're looking for just basic transportation folks the beautiful thing is that we live here in the Bay Area there's basic transportation all over the place you want to get yourself a 10 year old Civic get yourself a 10 year old Ford pickup Ranger you want to get. Those things run for ever are they Purdy No Are they going to be flashy when the go up to Starbucks know. Are they going to get you a date probably not. Poopy is my technical term for not good so if it started to turn color start to smell burnt get in there get it checked out I had one of our customers standing under policeman come in he has a rock Stumper and Iraq Stomper Jeep you know he this thing is built up and he just had a very expensive transmission built form took it out beat the live it's not out of it rocked it I mean had a great old time. Come back and smelt his transmission fluid into the burnt the guy has probably got 1520 miles on the same but the transmission fluid to burn you like well he just had it done just had the transmission belt Yeah but he got out and beat the living crap out of it so transmission fluid no good no more so .
