Tens of thousand have already fled from a rector turkey where they are sheltered in camps but also villages. And some of those villages have a special history. Early in the morning when the sun rises, its time for prayer. Yazidis prey to the sun because they believe its the source of all life. For 25 years, he has lived in germany, but he keeps coming back to his parents house at the iraqiturkish border. This is our homeland. Its where we were born. Its our village, our land. We are a peaceful faith. We have nothing against other religions, and we dont want to take other peoples land or possessions, but when exactly that happens to us, the world just looks on. This is the Community House in his village. Built by yazidis living in germany, its meant as ast house. Weddings are supposed to be celebrated here. Now its become shelter for yaziis from Northern Iraq who fled from Islamic State extremists. Anyone who cannot find space inside has to sleep on the terrace. Tens of thousands have crossed the border into turkey, many finding shelter with others of their faith. He has taken in two families at his summer home. They tell Horror Stories of their escape. They entered our village at 4 00 in the morning. Anyone who did not get out in time was killed or kidnapped. We escaped at the last minute in a car, but since then, we have not heard anything from our relatives. The terrorists kidnapped my girlfriend. We yazidis and iraq have constantly suffered, first under saddam, now under this i. S. Militia. We just want to live in peace. I want to go to school like any other young person. This used to be a village where yazidis lived until the late 1980s when they were expelled by turkish military. Most residents went into exile in germany, including a family which now lives in mannheim. They returned sometimes to visit. They remember both their tough lives here and the discrimination they experienced in urkey. This was the kitchen. Here was the living room. As shepherds, we always carried a water bottle, but the shepherds from the next village refused to drink our water because we were yazidis. The Yazidi Community in germany wants to make the houses and habitable again and install plumbing and power lines for plumbingheir fellow believers. We have many relatives in the villages. We want first of all that they moved to our village. And of course, we would be glad its our village were inhabited southeast turkey is a poor region. For the people here, coping with the influx of refugees has been an overwhelming task. In this town, 500 have found shelter in an empty apartment building. A tent serves as a collection point for donations of clothing and food. Residents share what little they had because whether muslims or yazidi, they are all ethnic kurds and speak the same language. The kurdish mayor says he got no help from the turkish state. When refugees came from syria, much was done to help and accommodate them by the turkish government and International Organizations such as the united nations. But for these people, theres no official aid, and that makes us wonder is it because they are kurds or because they are yazidi s or both . Yazidis worship the blue peacock as an angel who watches over the world on gods behalf. In their prayers, yazidis in germany thank the angel over and over these days. They give thanks for being saved from extermination, and they pray for others in their faith who came here from turkey with hopes of starting a new life. For years now, the French Economy has been in bad shape. Politicians have been struggling to agree on the appropriate economic strategy, so much so that french president Francois Hollande was forced to form a new government last month. Why is it failing so badly . You will find some answers if you leave the capital and head to a southwestern province where an irish man is trying to find ways out of the french crisis. A sleepy village with the pyrenees in the background within france, its hard to feel further away from paris than here. 900 kilometers away, the french president is battered by political crisis, but even here near the spanish border, some things are under threat. For example, the beret. Its more famous than the french flag. You can show the beret to anybody, anywhere in the world even in the middle of africa, they will say france. For the last two years, mark, an irishman, has managed the last harry factory in france. There used to be 20 such factories in this vicinity alone. Production halls used to be full of machineries and busy frenchmen, but the 35hour week, high taxes, and competition in asia have dealt a hard blow. In the last 15 years, the company has been insolvent three times. At the moment, things have stabilized. There is work. There are orders. As the last factory, we have to work hard. Maybe a foreigners fresh look from the outside rescued the company. And colors amongst the campaign that touts the beret as a new accessory. On a personal side, i believe that france will eventually come to align with the anglosaxon countries when it comes to retirement age. Thats just something that is inevitable. A beret is rove and woven from a single long thread then died and washed at very high temperatures. Finally, it is brushed smooth with a special machine. 1000 little work steps, lots of love and craftsmanship going to the product. French mark says this magic word opens wallets around the world. Only the government in paris is not understood that yet. Thats one of the frustrations that i see in france, that the Biggest Company in france is the general craftsman. Together, globally, they represent the largest turnover. The biggest taxpayers in france. When the government go abroad on commercial diplomatic trips, they are only visiting airplanes, trains, and power stations. The old master and soul of the company agrees. Though he knows the problems the company faces, he does not want to hear anything about a longer work week or later retirement. He repairs all the ancient machines. He jokes that we may watch him only if we are not industrial spies. We say if you plant grapes, the first harvest and maybe the second will be lousy. Only afterward does it get better. With a long with hollande, lets see after his five years in office. The average manager cannot afford that kind of clemency. Today, he has brought in a japanese designer. Will that bring new ideas and new customers . Will it restore the success of the label made in france . For months on end this year, large numbers of bulgarians took to the streets to protest against their government. They were successful. Early elections are due to take place in october. Many hope it will mean an end to corruption and political chaos in bulgaria, one of the poorest countries in europe. Children are particularly affected. More than half are considered to be at risk of poverty. Father jo on johan is trying to fill the gap left by the state, and his actions have made him famous across bulgaria. He dedicates his life to looking after orphans. He knows them all well. He even notices when one of them is wearing new socks. The Summer Holidays are over, and he is off to school. Father ivan founded the orphanage adjacent to his church. Its a half hour drive from the capital, sofia. Many women and children have sought refuge here. The orphanage is funded by donations, but money is often tight, as it is now. Close to god, im not afraid. We have little money left. We need more minor for more money for the winter, 4wood, but im not worried. God has never abandoned me, and im convinced we can work it out. He and his son gregory would like to renovate the church and the surrounding premises, but a businessman who had pledged to donate the necessary funds cannot withdraw his money from the bank because the bank has collapsed. The effects of bulgarias banking crisis, partly caused by widespread corruption, are felt here even in the orphanage. For lunch today, there is porridge and bread. The state contributes just 18 euros a month for the upkeep of each child. Father ivan helps feed this 21yearold womans baby. I grew up in a state orphanage, but i had to leave it when i was 18. She has little to look forward to in life. This woman and her children are equally destitute. She has been living in the orphanage since last year. She came here for help after years of fighting with the bulgarian social services. They took my children away. I asked father ivan to help me. It was the only way i could get them back. Gregory and his father put pressure on the authorities. The Youth Welfare office had put alexander up for adoption while his mother was undergoing surgery in a hospital and therefore unable to look after her children. In bulgaria, adoption is a lucrative business. Corrupt Civil Servants get a commission every time they place a child with a new family. Alexander was separated from his mother for a year and a half. His foster parents were unwilling to let him go until father ivan intervened. He knows how the state bureaucracy works. In the 1980s before the collapse of the iron curtain, he spent several months in jail. I thought they would kill me. The communists killed many priests. They just disappeared, and no one did anything about it. I prayed to god and myself to keep me alive. I promised him that if i stayed alive, i would find a home for found a home for orphans, homeless people, and street kids, and i would look after them, feed them, close them, and teach them. 280 people now live in the home. Father ivan has also bought a nearby farm. His goal is to make the home selfsufficient, but now that property prices have gone up, a new Childrens Home has become unaffordable. The strong the week like in the jungle. Thats how it is in bulgaria. But his plan now is to expand the home by buying land or he hours further north instead where land is cheaper. This village lies in one of europes poorest regions. Theres one of our buildings. Over there is another one. And there. Theres no shortage of vacant property here in this deserted corner of northern bulgaria. Few want to live here. But this is where father ivan is creating homes for people who have no other. He wants to create prospects for a selfsufficient life for those in need. Father ivan and other idealists may be hoping to restore the reputation of christian churches, but in many european countries, their image is tiredness with Church Dignitaries involved in scandals. In the south of italy, for example, the Catholic Church longheld in protecting hand over mafia bosses, at least until pope francis put his foot down a few weeks ago in what many considered a bold move. Even today, few priests there the powerful mafia. Have they come f the pressi of the mother of god, or are they here for the summit conference, traditionally held on the margins of the festival of mary . The pope has excommunicated the mafiosi, but the bishop knows that members of the mafia will take part in his mass today. The task of the church is to shape peoples consciences. It must always help the individual find a way out of his inner conflicts. Every september, the heads of the clan make the Big Decisions on ranking. The Public Prosecutor tells us he has been fighting organized crime for more than 30 years. He says that after the pope made his statement, some in prison mafiosi stopped going to mass. They said they were not wanted there anymore. The fact that they were so angry shows how important the popes words are. In southern italy, a mafia bost cannot afford to have the priest or a bishop as his enemy. This town made headlines after the pope haas visit. After the annual procession, the bearers of the statue of mary allegedly made an unscheduled stop in front of the house of a local mafia boss to pay honor to an bow before his power. The local police chief filed charges ainst the participants. He cannot give us an interview but says he warned the community and a responsible priest, a relative of the mafia boss, that he would not tolerate it. The responsible bishop criticized the immediately. There was the ceremony before the house of the mafia boss. The stop was 100 meters away fromis house. Thats how we see it. It has been that way for decades. For decades, 83 euros giuseppe 83 year old giuseppe has commanded the mafia. We went to the building where he is under house arrest. When we wanted to ask questions, the bosss shouted that it was all lies the boss daughter shouted that it was all lies. Bricks flew at us over the fence. And then our cameraman was attacked. A member of our team filmed it all with his cell phone. The boss people took away our film material. We had to file charges and weight two hours before we got it back. Those who ask too many questions and do not simply accept the power structures have a tough life. These vegetable fields are on land that once belonged to a local mafia family who raked in massive european agricultural subsidies. The land was confiscated in 1993. Today, an organization grows organic vegetables here. In the morning, they work in the fields. In the afternoon, they meet with police and victims of the mafia. What keeps the young people here is that we are all one italy, whether northern or southern. We struggle together against the mafia. Many have had no prior contact with this world of evil. In florence, we live in a different reality. But now i know it exists. Sylvia says the popes excommunication of the mafiosi was long overdue. Saying that already changes things. Don p no goes further. He says the church has to do something. We have to reunite all our powers. I think that what pope francis said is very important for this because now at the latest, it has to be clear to all of us there must be nothing in common between the gospels and the mafia. He will hardly accept this lying down. It is operated with the churchs blessings it has operated with the churchs blessings for decades. It sounds absurd. Experts warn that the growing population is too much and say we would need a second planet to have enough room and food for everybody. At the same time, politicians on this continent are wringing their hands because more and more europeans are having children so late or not having any at all, but in denmark, quite a few people are getting their act together at the last minute, pun intended. For years, a danish music therapist thought she did not want children. She enjoyed her freedom and did not feel like settling down. But now, she is in her early 40s. If she decides she does want a family, its now or never. Ive seen so many families grow that somehow, i have to come a little bit standing outside and knowing all those families. Its a little bit like it has passed by me. But still, there is a wish. So she is not wasting any time. She wants to find mr. Right and hopes that the Online Dating platform love and kids will help her. It is specifically geared to singles who want to start families. She registered this past spring. It makes it interesting, to contact these people and share ideas about how you would like your life to proceed. That was exactly what 44yearold manuel had in mind when he founded it. Originally from france, he now lives in copenhagen. He has a daughter from a former relationship that was keen to have more children. He was sure there were others out there who felt the same. On one dating site, i came across the profile of a 38yearold woman who wrote, i know youre not allowed to say this, but i would like children. I was shocked that a woman her age should think she needed to apologize for that. Its not acceptable that wanting children should be such a taboo subject on Online Dating sites. He decided to set up a new platform where it would not be. Love and kids is an Online Dating site that fills what in denmark appears to be a gap in the market. I hope it encourages people to think about whether or not they want children. Its not about putting people on the spot, but i think people should be clear on the issue before it is too late. It is something that causes many couples to break up, and its too late to start thinking about the children question when you are 40 or 45. She has met up with a few men she got to know on love and kids. So far, it has not worked out with any of them, but after all, theres a lot at stake.
