Dont fire your people in the United States. Stay here. Many other countries have great people. We all have great people. This isnt that kind of competition. Reporter it is definitely the first step for americas new role in the global economy. Mr. Trump is following up on his campaign promises, when he pledged to renegotiate or terminate any trade deal he considers not to be in americas interests. Talking about tpp, i have to say that this trade deal has not been implemented yet, has not been approved by the senate yet, but it was aimed at countering chinas role, chinas impact in the region. It will be interesting how President Trump is going to address this issue. What could be even more important is that President Trump is already talking a mexico and canada about the north American Free trade agreement, which he also wants to renegotiate, on which however up to 6 million jobs in the u. S. Rely. Host we also saw the First Official press briefing by the new White House Press secretary, sean spicer. Some interesting things were said about fighting terrorism. Lets take a look. Whoever shares are interested in defeating isis, not just on the National Security front but the economic front, if we can work with somebody to spur American Growth and allow u. S. Small businesses what about the idea of joint military actions with russia in syria . If there is a way we can combat isis with any country, whether its russia, sure, we will take it. For the first time in nine months, peace talks are underway on syria, this time in the kazakhstan capital astana. Negotiators say they are hoping to submit a shaky ceasefire and agree on the delivery of humanitarian aid. The talks have been arranged by turkey and russia and bring together negotiators for the Syrian Regime and rebel fighters. Its the first time the two sides have been in the same room since the start of the conflict six years ago, but they did not speak directly to each other. They did, however, begin by trading insults. Our correspondent Nicholas Connelly joins us from those talks in astana. Hello to you. The talks have ended for the day. Was there any progress to speak of . Reporter it has been a very fraught day. These tooalks that took place a couple hundred meters behind me, we had those insults traded, and they werent able to meet together as had been hoped. They were just together for mere moments at the beginning during introductory statements, and then we went back to this proximity talk weve seen in previous meetings in geneva, for instance. I think the important thing to stress is nobody has left us tonight. They are all still here. Maybe five years into this conflict, there is a wariness and willingness to engage, however imperfect the negotiations are. Despite the fact that we dont have anything concrete to take away yet, i think it is out for play as we go into the second day. Host what can we realistically expect . Reporter the organizers, time and time again, have stressed this isnt about a grant solution to this complex conflict. This is about shoring up the ceasefire that has been in place since late december, extending that to reaches of syria that previously havent been part of that deal. Its also about launching some humanitarian initiatives. Its not about the more complex fiscal issues that will take a lot longer to deal with. Whereas these talks, this started as something very different, an alternative to u. N. Brokered talks, the russians and the turks now sinking tos seem keen to bring on the u. N. There was a high degree of uncertainty, and therefore, investors are quite hesitant to jump into the market. How is that supposed to work in a globalized world . Well, its going to change quite a lot. Down the line, it could increase prices for u. S. Consumers because costs for companies could increase. This is also not going to happen overnight. Donald trump is talking about a clean border tax in the amount of roughly 30 . Congress is in favor of a border adjustment tax in the amount of 20 , and donald trump can get out of tpp by himself. To come up with a tax plan like he talks about, he would need the approval of congress. As i said, that is going to take time. If you look at the global trade flows, goods or crossing the border backandforth. If you look at the car industry, components are going back and forth.
