Are you watching our Ventura and k c r y Mojave a community service of Santa Monica College and n.p.r. For southern California and time Bowley boy it's here for another couple hours and I want to turn next to someone else who is going to be performing tonight and that would be Diane hub and she'll be at the bar for Dora downtown appearing with a group that also includes Scott Whitfield so I thought we'd play something from Diane how good to begin the set and then Scott would feel has a new recording out so will check that out as well and. She's doing here the bad and the beautiful What beautiful tune written by David racks and with lyrics by Dory Previn of course from the movie with. Her was a Kirk Douglas and one attorney I believe from the early fifty's so this is Diane Hart go along with Christian Jacob on piano and Larry comes on guitar Chris Calandra low on bass Joe the barber on drums. The band in the beautiful love is wrong. And sings on Hulk unsung. That is the Chicago Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Jeff Lindbergh this is a new release entitled live from space and we heard Ahmad's blues composed by Jim Hall and probably performed most notably by Miles Davis and his quintet from one of his prestige recordings where Red Garland took on the Ahmad Jamal piano roll on the this particular track the featured pianist was Don true tao and we also heard down as Carol featured on bass the Chicago Jazz Orchestra before that we heard from trombone and Scott Whitfield new jazz standards Volume 2 is the name of this disc and it's all compositions by the trumpeter Carl Saunders Although he does not appear on this recording it's Scott Woodfield along with Christian Jacob on piano Kevin axed on bass Peter Erskine on drums we heard something called prudence and we open the set with Diane who is having a birthday celebration performance the sea evening at Barford door in a downtown. And Scott Woodfield will be in attendance there too I think Christian Jacob as well in fact there's a lot of cross pollination going on here we heard the band in the beautiful and on this particular recording Carl Saunders whom I just mentioned the trumpeter. Appears on this record we did not however hear him on the band on the beautiful but we did hear Christian Jacob and Larry coolants and Chris Calandra low among others Good morning it's 22 minutes after 4 o'clock and you're listening to strictly jazz here on k.c. R.w. Here's Bill Evans and Jim Hall with Cole Porter's. What is it my mind is going blank. I get Food. Guitar all over Gannon from his new release which is called easy sailing and weird Come Rain or Come Shine with Miles black on piano Jody. On bass and Blaine Whitney shared. Perhaps I'm kind of butchering that one I think on drums and. Release from all over. And before that another new release involving a guitar player whose name is Tom Dempsey he's actually the long with the bases Tim Ferguson on this court. Which also features on tenor saxophone and. On drums what we heard was a Jim Hall composition called all across the city in fact this is. Dedicated to. Performing a lot of his compositions were songs associated with. And before all across the city we heard. It with Bill Evans and I've Got You Under drums and before that we heard Jimmy Smith once again this time in the company of Eddie Harris who was playing the saxophone actually playing one of those weird things that he used to play the Vera tone I think it was called where it sort of splits up the note into octaves. This is a live recording from the Keystone corner. Back in let me see here. 1981 Jimmy Smith along with Eddie Harris and Kenny Dixon was the drummer for the sermon. Good morning we are about 4 minutes shy of 5 o'clock and you're listening to member supported k c r w Santa Monica Los Angeles k d r w Santa Barbara k c r I Indio Palm Springs k.c. Are you Oxnard Ventura and Casey r y Mojave we are a community service of Santa Monica College and n.p.r. For southern California both here with you for one more hour and I want to pay a sort of mini tribute to Ruby Braff who was a wonderful cornet and trumpet player whose birthday was yesterday he would have been 90 years old he died in 2003 from Boston and someone who just idolized Louis Armstrong in particular and Vic's Beiderbecke as well and so we'll play a couple things featuring Ruby Braff and we'll begin. With something that also features Dave McKenna on piano and. Steve Jordan on guitar buzzy drew on drums and this is Ruby Braff. With. It's been so long.
