Linn county supervisors voted for a third and final time to increase the minimum wage in the county by one dollar an hour january 1st. One dollar increases would then come in january 2018 and 2019. The countys minimum wage would top out at 10. 25 an hour. The question now is will city pass an ordinance of their own . It doesnt go into effect until january so communities have until then to decide what to do with their minimum wage some communities are beginning to start those discussions. Central citys council will put a minimum wage discussion on the agenda next week and the city council in ely is talking about it tonight. But no community, large or small, has taken a stand on the issue yet. A new poll just out today gives Republican Trump a slight lead over democrat hillary clinton. The washington Streetscape Project in iowa city is taking a step forward. The city has opened one, westbound lane of traffic. Thats in the 100 block of washington street. The washington Street Project is part of the larger underground infrastructure and giving the street an updated, fresh look. All of the businesses along washington street have been open throughout this project. The washington Streetscape Project is expected to be completed later this fall. Johnson county is getting closer to tripling its production of clean energy. Workers have already installed an array of solar panels on the roof of the countys health and Human Services building. And now theyre working to get a set of solar panels up next to the county administration building. The countys sustainability coordi displays will produce more than 300thousand kilowatt hours of electricity each year. A waterloo blood drive to honor the victims of 9 11 exceeded organizers expectations today. The waterloo fire and rescue sponsored the blood drive at their headquarters from noon to six. American red cross had 50 people scheduled to donate. But by two oclock, there had already been 25 walk ins who were eager to give. Mike was a great way to honor the victims and first responders. Its similar to a bill that passed in the senate last session, but failed in the house. But state senator Jeff Danielson says this time around, you would have to be 21 to play. And the racing and Gaming Department will regulate it. Sports betting sites would have to pay a fee to operate in iowa under state law, your winnings would be taxed if its more than 1200 dollars.
