In johnson county, the Crisis Center offers a crisis hot line that gets one thousand calls a month, and recently started a mobile Crisis Center where Mental Health professionals actually go and visit with people who are considering harming themselves. We were averaging 15 calls a month, and that has sky rocketed to 34 or 35 calls a month the last couple months. Briggs says everyday people can going to say to their friends or lovedones. And be ready with resource materials and a plan to find help. Were reducing the stigma, people are talking about it more, its going to get better it will get better. Unity pointfinley hospital in dubuque has built care rooms specifically designed for people dealing with a Mental Health crisis. Its part of the hospitals new emergency center. Each of the the behavioral rooms was designed to prevent opportunities for Mental Health patients from hurting others. Wen needed, staff lowers a retractable door, similar to a garage door, to keep patients from grabbing medical equipment. If necessary, staff also removes any large item that isnt secure anything that cant be removed is bolted to the walls or ceiling. The hospital says its an effort to protect all patients privacy and dignity. We provide privacy for raw and emotional state. We also want make sure that we provide them with plenty of privacy as well. St. Lukes hospital and Mercy Medical center in cedar rapids also have similar rooms available. Theres a new attraction coming to the Dubuque Five Flags Center this winter. An indoor dog park. Starting in november, the event center will transform into a dogs playground. The park will be open every wednesday from 430 in the afternoon until eight.
