The mayor says fareway usually wants a larger town. But the prospect of growth here sealed the deal. Because fareway will rehab an existing building in anamosa, that store should open in late spring or early summer. New construction in peosta will mean waiting about a year. But as the mayor says finally having a Grocery Store is worth the wait. Thanks, dave. The federal centers for medicare and Medicaid Services called for a delay in iowas switch to a private Medicaid Program today. Governor Terry Branstad wanted the new program to start january 1st. And today was the deadline for recipients to choose a new plan to have coverage start on that date. Federal regulators told the state needs more time for the switch. The center for Medicaid Services ordered the delay of the program to march 1st. This just gives them more time to do that, more time to make a decision and to talk with their physicians and to find out what to create a medical plan along with a plan the physician will know about. Federal regulators are expected to approve the change to privatization. The only hangup was the transition deadline. About two dozen people marched to university of iowa president Bruce Harrelds office today to protest his comment that unprepared teachers should be shot. Harreld is backtracking from that comment he allegedly made at a december 9th Ui Staff Council meeting. A ui spokesperson says he never said teachers should be shot. Instead, harreld says he was responding to a question about improving graduate student teaching. He said he learned the hard way that if he ever walked into a classroom without a teaching plan, he should be shot. Kcrgtv9s Iowa City Bureau chief mark carlson was at todays protest. Mark, what did they say no matter who the comment was directed at, it was totally out of line. Protesters carried signs across campus today, demanding harreld resign in light of the comment. Harreld has apologized to the person who brought the concern about the comment before him. Saying it was an offthe cuff remark, and he does not support gun violence. One thing worth noting today was the size of this protest, much smaller than some of the Bruce Harreld protests weve seen over the course of the semester. But the organizer, who also dressed up as Bruce Harreld, says there are still many people out there who are not happy with harreld, and protests will go on. Yes break is happening, people are going to go home, but that doesnt mean we cant email, that doesnt mean were not ready to go, that doesnt mean were not hearing and reading what hes saying and getting angrier and angrier. The protesters spent considerable time outside harrelds office, there. A spokeswoman released a brief statement saying the university respects the protesters right to gather.
