This is just into the tv nine newsroom, and hawkeye fans now have a clearer picture of the possible path to a National Football championship. The First College football playoff poll came out just minutes ago and ranks the undefeated iowa hawkeyes as nine team in the nation. The top four teams in this poll at the end of the season will play in the College Football playoffs to decide the national champion. Scott saville talked one onone with coach kirk ferentz about the rankings. Hear the coachs reaction to the polling coming up next stay with tv9. A lot yet. But they released playoff poll tonight. And the hawkeyes are ranked 9th. Clemson is ranked number one followed lsu, ohio state, and alabama in the top four. And they would be in the playoffs if they started today. Notre dame is fifth. As you can guess this was a big topic and iowa press day. Scott westerberg has more from iowa city. When asked how much they would Pay Attention to the release of the College Football playoff rankings, the hawkeyes had a wide variety of answers. Ill probably be working, actually, and doing something that might help us win the game instead of something that doesnt matter too much right now. Ive got night class, so i wont even be able to watch it. Well meet until 6 15, but ill go home, hang out, watch some tv and go to bed. Ill probably see. Ill watch espn. Ill watch sports on nothing else to do. But since the only rankings that really matter come out at the end of the season, the focus is less on what indiana. That doesnt really matter right now. We just have to focus in on one game at a time and just keep preparing every single week. Right now in our eyes its a one game season. Were just focused on indiana. As much as it is nice, you have to take it with a grain of salt and understand theres a lot of games left to be played. I can almost guarantee you the four teams in it tonight arent going to be the four teams in it in the end. They try and predict stuff since the beginning of the season and most of its been wrong. The only thing im hoping tonight is were not in the first four. Thats like the kiss of death. I dont think we have to worry about that. The biggest thing we can do to help ourselves right now is win this saturday. Thats really what were focused on. While it may sound like the hawkeyes are trying everything they can to avoid talking about rankings, the team is happy to be mentioned among the big dogs of College Football. I mean were definitely excited about it too, dont get us wrong, but at the same time were focused on one game at a time and everything is going to take care of itself after the regular season is over. In iowa city, Scott Westerberg tv9 sports. The iowaindiana game will be a 2 30 kickoff in bloomington and you can watch that game on espn. The cyclones coming off that 24nothing shutout win over texas will try to ride the momentum this saturday night at oklahoma. Remember longhorns beat the sooners earlier this year. And the cyclones think if they can run the ball effectively they will have a chance to pull off another upset. They are very explosive and they are very dangerous in the passing game so we have to establish the run early and get them on their heels and transition to the passing game. We have to work hard to establish the running game. Mike is in important in that we have a piece of our play action pass that improves if we can accomplish that. If we cant run the ball we get forced into a passing game against this defense will be in trouble. Sot 34 oc be in trouble in kansas city today what a party as a half million fans jammed the streets in downtown kc for the royals world series victory parade.
