Nine anamosa state penitentiary employees have now either resigned or the prison has fired them. Us attorney kevin techau announced charges against four of the nine for smuggling cell phones and drugs into the prison earlier this month. Since then, an investigation found serious violations of security practices against another five employees. They arent facing any charges and left their positions on their own. The city of dubuque is expanding its yard lighting reimbursement program. Its part of an effort to increase safety city wide. If a homeowner installs new yard lights, the city will reimburse them for half the cost of the lights and installation. The program has been around since 2008 but was only available to people who live in the downtown area. Now any homeowner in the city is eligible. People feel more confident in their neighborhoods when its easy to see. And its not only a personal safety issue. If you are walking along and you cant see the sidewalk and you have a trip and fall. Women are the biggest factor in pushing Hillary Clinton atop the latest poll of likely iowa caucusgoers. Among women, 59percent support clinton in the poll while 33percent support Bernie Sanders. While more men supported Bernie Sanders. 51 percent to 39 percent for clinton. Age is also a key factor among the top two democrats in the race. Sanders captured more of the 18 to 34 age group while clinton dominated the 50 and older crowd. While bernie is getting strong support as an outsider, that may actually hurt him, according to this poll. When asked the most important factor in supporting a candidate. Of those who want a candidate who can win the general election, clinton had 63percent support compared to just 29percent for sanders. Voters also said clinton was better prepared to handle all policy issues on the economy, education, Foreign Policy and guns. Trust and compassion two trouble points for clinton in past polls also improved but are still an issue. 70percent say she is honest and trustworthy. 83percent say she cares about voters problems. Sanders faired better in both categories but clinton topped sanders in leadership qualities. The polls show democrats are more united behind nominees than republicans when asked if there was a candidate they would definitely not support only Lincoln Chafee and jim webb topped 10percent. And today performers showed 60 students from the Cedar Valley Montessori School how they care for their animals. The elephants showed off a little of their talent in painting and smashing pumpkins. The host of todays event says she hopes this gets more children interested in working with animals. Because of my love for animals is the reason im here and i hope to inspire some of these children to care about animals and to follow a path to maybe be a veterinarian or be in the circus itself. I had no idea elephants liked thought they liked peanuts. And i also didnt know they like to squash pumpkins. This is the last year that elephants will be part of the ringling brothers and barnum and bailey show after criticism that the animals werent receiving proper treatment. The developer of the chauncey in iowa city hopes to break ground on the project by next fall. But that can only happen if a nearby church doesnt file an appeal. That story is coming up next here on tv9. The developer of the chauncey tower in iowa city says hes ready to move forward after a judge dismissed a churchs lawsuit against the 15story tower. Plans to build the controversial building have been in the works for years, and so have attempts to block it. The tower will include commercial, office and residential space, as well as a Bowling Alley and movie theater. I dont know why this project is do or die, it seemed like it had to go through, the powers that be decided it had to go through, and it was ram rodded through. Christopher warnock represents trinity episcopal church. The Neighboring Church that attempted to Block Construction of the chauncey claiming the city council unlawfully rezoned the spot of land to make room for the 15story tower. But with the lawsuit now dismissed, developer marc moen is ready to move on. I assume the church knows the caused, both to the city and to us, just by filing the lawsuit are enormous, and we had a december 2018 target date for completion originally and thats been pushed back because the lawsuit was filed. Moen says he now hopes to have the building open by the end of 2019. And thats only if the church doesnt appeal the ruling i dont feel like im back on track until i find out if the church is going to delay it further, we are going to move forward now, but if they decide to appeal it, that puts it back off track. Moen says if theres no appeal he hopes to break ground on the project by next fall. Warnock says he hasnt yet spoken to church leaders, but he will advise them to appeal, even though warnock himself admits he expects the building will eventually go up. But he says a message has been sent. I think this case is a real warning to all developers in iowa city, you need to make sure you have public support for what you are doing, if there is broadbased opposition, its going to make itself felt.
