The red cross is opening Resource Centers this week for people affected by flooding in eastern iowa. A center in vinton at Benton CountyEmergency Management is open from 11 am cleanup kits inside, shovels, rakes and mops and more. Officials are also on hand to help with any paperwork needed for flood recovery. The red cross will open Similar Centers in cedar falls and waverly later this week. And starting tomorrow, the linn countycedar rapids Solid Waste Agency will begin collecting garbage and recycling for people who were inside that flood evacuation zone. People who live there can put out their normal trash container plus two 35 gallon bags for free. Dropoff sites open. One is at ellis park by the Tennis Courts and the other is in the noelridge pool parking lot. If you cant drop off your sandbags, the city will collect them, starting monday, october 10th. They had a little flooding in their basements, but they will deal with that after what happened 8 years ago, when the flooding heavily damaged their buildings the church is thankful for the hesco barriers and sandbags, and all of the volunteers who helped out theres a lot to sing about at st Patricks Catholic to see little damage, after hours of work removing items from the building and placing sandbags around it. It was a rather scary weekend last weekend, but the help that the church had was amazing. A would have had to find another place for worship if the floodwaters heavily damaged their buildings again. After the 2008 flood we spent 3 Million Dollars rebuilding our three buildings. And none of us wanted to look at that situation again.
