Stay with your 24 hour news iowa Football Team victory over miami of ohio on saturday. The running game was one of the bright spots for the hawkeyes. Akrum wadley and Leshun Daniels were a perfect 12 punch. Wadley led the way with 121 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Leshun had 83 yards on the ground and two touchdowns of his own. The hawkeyes had a total of five rushing touchdowns. Definitely allows you to go into each drive fresh. When akrum gets a little tired, i can come in and think it really helps where defenses down a little bit. We think both guys are really going practicing well. Our whole Running Back Group has practiced well this preseason. They seem to compliment each other well today. If we can continue to keep some balance, i think thatd be really good for both guys. So, i thought that worked out real well. Trt 28 oc worked out real well. The Northern IowaFootball Team opened the season with a huge win against iowa state on the road. Its the third time the cyclones in the last six meetings. Scott westerberg has a recap. Uni entered this game with a lot of question marks on defense and when it was all said and done, the panthers looked like a veteran group in crunch time. There was a lot of youth out there today. A lot of newcomers and how they prepared for this game, how they prepared for this season i think showed up for this season and how they endured and perserveered a lot of things that happened out there and had the confidence to finish what they started. One area uni rushed for just 51 yards and allbig 12 back mike warren finished with just 30 yards on 12 carries. It was such a group effort. Everybody on the dline made the contribution, the linebackers. It wasnt just one person who had an allstar game. I know we did a great job against the rushing game cause i kept watching the clock and watching the rushing yards because if we can keep that we can make them one dimensional. Iowa state did burn the panthers on a few long passes, but u late with a pair of interceptions, one from charles brown, who spent the last two season at receiver before switching to cornerback just this week. He was the starting receiver and to his credit without blinking an eye he wanted to do what was best for the team and moved to corner and ended up making the play of the day. Offensively the panthers were wellbalanced with 232 yards on the ground and 135 through the air. One of the biggest plays of the game came on a 4th and goal from the two when coach farley decided to go for dice. We felt it. Its just one of those feelings you feel in your gut. You cant deny it. Im more than happy we did that. Even though our special teams were great we just felt confident that we could get a score. It was a call i felt needed to be made because with a young Football Team it could really ignite some things that could happen and i think this was part of this win. And a win like this means a lot to the panthers, especially guys like tripoli native karter schult. Growing up around these three universities, its like beating up call it that. Just saying hey were not the little guy and we can compete with anybody in the nation, and thats how we feel about it. Me personally, being from iowa, it means a lot to me and probably to the team. And that late interception by jared farley, it helped make his father the winningest coach in uni history. From jack trice stadium, Scott Westerberg tv9 sports. Lot of disappointmen t. The cyclones got off to a fast with a 137 lead midway through the 2nd quarter. But mistakes came back to haunt them with a safety late in the 2nd quarter and then three turnovers in the final six minutes. Also, running back mike warren only had 30 yards rushing. We were, offensively, we were just so off. We were always playing catchup all night, rather than in any sort of rhythm. Obviously, mikes gotta be able to run the ball and weve got my biggest regret is for this fan base and weve got a great fan base here. Theres gotta be a point in time where we draw the line and quit disappointing them. And so, thats my mission. We let them outperform us. We know our capabilities and we didnt give our potential tonight. We still have a lot of room to improve on. Trt 33 oc room to improve on. And tonight at 10 for the sunday night spotlight, i feature dubuque native and she was the libero on the womens Volleyball Team who beat the netherlands for the bronze medal. Thanks josh.
